  1. If I was to do a 'TFTC' or similar log, then I have no record of remembering that particular cache. If I did a short log at least I can recall - ahh yes that was the cache I fell on my *rse in the mud at, or ..... that was the one with the beautiful view of ...., or that was the one beside the view of the local rubbish tip - whatever! If I have been away on a caching weekend and have over 100 to log, then yes my logs will be short, but I don't recall ever doing a TFTC or copy paste, even if I have not enjoyed the cache/power trail something positive can be put in the log - 'seen a lot of this size container today', 'you must have shares in snappy snaps', 'shame about the litter, .... plenty polite ways of letting others know what to expect.
  2. Only pet hate for city centre caches is - under a bench - there is always somebody sat there!!
  3. I like city centre caches, especially in places easily accessible by train (straight forward clues essential in muggle high places though). Please set loads, it makes you look at the local architecture, plaques, hidden places you would normally miss. One place where micros are acceptable although I am amazed at just how brave people are at hiding boxes in cities - excellent!!
  4. grrr, wondered why the forum was hanging, can a mod delete two of the repeat threads please? Ta.
  5. I have noticed that people are not registering their DNF. A DNF alerts the owner to the fact that the cache may have gone, or that the coords/hint need adjusting It also alerts future finders that they may be wasting their time or it is a particular hard hide. Is this because they want to keep a clear record of finds? Do you, Don't you?
  6. Is it not just the vast quantity of caches around these days? Back in the 'olden days' of caching, people wrote interesting logs in both the log book and online of their funny antics and experience. These logs not only show appreciation to the hider , but also help future finders decide if the cache is for them, detailed logs also help a future finder if it is a particular tricky hide or terrain as well as alert the hider to any problems. As for quality - new cachers will follow the example we set.
  7. Can somebody enlighten me? Exactly why do people leave a trail of Poker chips in caches? Are they collector items? Is there a race to bag as many as possible? Do they have any value?
  8. Film cannisters work fine in town centres where you can attach a magnet inside, but a lot of the ones out in the country hidden amongst leaves etc. get chewed by mice, the grey lids always seem to be a target.
  9. The 3 for £1 seem to work fine, the blue rimmed ones seem the strongest, just make sure you put your log books into a wee bag, did a cache yesterday, poured the water out, but the swaps were in one bag, log book in another and were all perfectly dry, so the zip bags do work. Asda also do a wee flat box which is handy for slotting in tiny places (not sure of price) You can buy zip bags on fleabay in various sizes cheaply. Just remember not to put the pencil inside the bag as its point pierces a hole.
  10. Boots Jessops Camera/film processing shops Large Tesco's Still plenty people getting film developed, just pop in shop and ask if they have any going spare, I usually get given a carrier bag full. Sometimes they ask what they are for - I usually say a childrens treasure hunt as an easiest explanation. All they seem bothered about is that they are not used for footstuff. However, you could also try the pound shops and get a pack of three wee lock type boxes for £1 - more watertight and you can get a wee TB or coin in them if needed!
  11. Just a cheap spray can from the poundshops works well. Or if you want to do a 'paintbrush' job, those cheap tubes of Acrylic artists paint found in 'The Works' do fine and you can mix the colours. Water soluble when wet, fast drying and rock hard when dry so be quick to rinse that brush! Remember to lightly sand down the box first - my box painted with these paints has survived the harsh weather.
  12. Ok so most of us are used to TFTC logs by now - yes and even the fullstop logs! Then lets consider the new cacher................... Their first hide They find a suitable spot where they would like to place a box ..... They eagerly buy the box, the log book, the wee pencil, print off the stash note - the children of the team spend time picking and filling the box with wee swaps. They carefully choose an FTF prize for the first finder. They all go out and place the box together, write a page with wee snippets of interest from the area. The cache goes live. The children all excited eagerly wait for the first log ..............
  13. I must admit I share the disappointment of TFTC or copy paste logs. Whilst I do not hide caches expecting praise (as I enjoy finding hidden places/nice views and sharing them with yoos) it is still polite/manners to offer some sort of appreciation to the hider - after all, if it was not for us hiders who have taken time to purchase boxes/swaps and go out and hide them - none of you TFTC loggers would have any boxes to find in the first place! Unfortunately mobile phone logging has to take the blame for a lot of these logs, I have even been receiving just a full stop as a log which is really not on! I am not bothered about private logs, but what would be good was if we could be informed by email if a log had been altered - some of these phone logs are adjusted once the finder gets home, but we do not know this has been done unless we regularly check all our cache pages, which of course we don't! If hiders have taken time to purchase/hide/write up a page, surely a half a minute to write a one line log is not asking too much? Also, wether the comment is positive or negative, it helps the next cacher on the hunt. Until recently, I have enjoyed reading cachers logs, enjoying their experiences at the cache, given me a few laughs at their antics, and for these lovely logs from yoos who have I am really grateful - it ihas been a great encouragement to me to continue purchasing and hiding boxes - but now with this latest TFTC trend I just don't have the inclination to hide any boxes any more!
  14. I will be speaking to her tommorrow morning, so please email me on my profile if anyone is interested in helping. thanks.
  15. I wasn't planning on doing any bookmarks myself so will join in the coughing if anyone else has time? - however I can say that we hope to get all our caches out by the end of this month so that people can do their PQ's and start planning just what they want to do whilst here.
  16. Hoping some will be in the city centre or within walking distance of there as it looks a bit hilly out of town for me. Plenty of local caches within Perth itself for those who like urban caching and very few micros or nano's. Despite being surrounded by hills, Perth itself is flat for you. Lots along the riverbank through the park to explore, plenty to keep you busy.
  17. Perhaps you might want to look at a few of the Dair Mor caches before you decide if they are worthwhile or not. 150 caches to date, all regular boxes, the best stocked caches in perthshire, a considerable amount of time has been spent on setting them and no expense spared. Take a look at a few of these Long walks as you requested, set in the beautiful forests and countryside of perthshire, Examples ........ http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...16-24f54474dea2 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...70-cd43ca568473 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...ce-46013418798c http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...d0-94264b8eda3c If you want a longer walk still, try the Dair Mor Cateran series - a 64mile/103km circular route and definately worthwhile caches. You asked for walks, Dair Mor has them, no micros, not a single nano, don't judge till you have tried a few!
  18. Nor does Scotland have a big enough community to reach the 500, didn't stop us! Go for it, they will come! Makes an excellent excuse for holiday planning around it!
  19. Might be worth looking at cheap flights - can get a bargain if booked well in advance, and might cover the cost of buying a passport - useful to have one anyway. New experience for the youngsters as well. Last flight I had to Dublin cost £5 single including all taxes. I must get a new piggy bank to start saving now!! (are we talking 2014?)
  20. Dare you venture into the deep dark forest ............... Boo!
  21. If you don't have a Teddy, you may have a Doggie instead? Event for Dogs and their owners
  22. Link to Mega Scotland is there Rutson, Camping can be found from there. No GCs for the other events until they have been published. MEGA SCOTLAND MEGA CAMPING PAGE
  23. Please note all those events/dates are subject to change, so please watch out for the pages when they go live (roughly end april). But they give you an idea of what is planned. Ashbourne up to Kinross takes about five and half hours if you ignore every single cache along the way - oh come on who am I kidding!!! "The Midge" has not been invited!
