  1. As a cache owner, I do like to read more than a few words in the online log. I have 25 roadside caches that lead to a 26th cache. I don't expect much writing on the 25, though some people do...which is good, I find that they write more on the 26th (which is a puzzle, by the way). Only this morning, I had the same log on 2 of the 25, and the 26th.....obviously a copy and paste. I just close the email and go to the next one. No skin off my nose, as they say! I don't use a smartphone, I use a dedicated GPSr and enjoy writing the logs in the evening, over a coffee, (there's nowt on the telly anyway )as I have the time to think of what to say. I don't do much finding at the moment, so remembering each cache is pretty easy. Rarely put more than a few words in the cache logbook, though.
  2. Welcome to the obsession that is Geocaching! Our kids were 13 and 14 when I started, they enjoyed it for a while, then it got less and less with them. That was 11 years ago! Have fun! Gaz Edited to say keep us posted how you get on finding your first, as the iPhone isn't as good as a dedicated GPSr (so I am led to believe). I use a Garmin VistaHcX
  3. Welcome to the obsession that is geocaching! You need your GPSr set to:- hdd°mm.mmm WGS 84 You will find these settings in the "set up", then "units" (I think!) These settings are what Geocaching.com use. Have fun!
  4. to log a PM only cache, hover over the PM cache on the map, click it to get the box up, hit the "Log Visit" button......seeemples!

  7. So that all premium members get the Google maps back, which isn't an option for us ordinary members. Mind you, I like the map options that jri gave us.
  8. Hi Perce, welcome to the obsession that is Geocaching! I've been 'caching nearly as long as McDeHack, well, a few days less, anyway! I'm over in Carlisle, too far away to meet up, I'm afraid. Just a couple of questions...what are you using to find caches? Smartphone or dedicated GPSr? Are you using a computer to look at maps/caches? If you are signed in on a computer/laptop, it is easier to see and zoom in because the screen is much bigger than a phone. Any questions you have, post 'em here, there's ALWAYS someone that will help! As for TB's/geocoins, see what the goal is and try to keep to it. I don't personally move them because I am lazy and forget to move 'em on! Happy 'caching, Gaz
  9. Having used this excellent add-on in Chrome since jri first posted it, I have to say I have NEVER had ANY problems whatsoever! Always works, 1st time. I have just gave the link to a fellow cacher, who also runs Chrome, I'll soon find out if HE has any problems! Oh dear, have I just given it the kiss of death on my laptop? I hope not!
  10. Or you could ditch the new GPS then do as your old avatar said and go to the CO and say "Give Us Yer Cache"

  16. There was a local news story, dunno if it went national, about a Dolphin in the harbour at Maryport, here in Cumbria. There is a link to the story on the cache page. Cache is Tribute To Marra The Dolphin Edited to say the cache was nowt to do with the actual news team, so won't qualify?
