  1. Anyone else having trouble connecting to geocaching.com using iPhone app? Is seems to give me this message with more and more frequncy. Somewhat annoying when it's a paid for app. Any suggestions anyone? Or know who I should complain to?
  2. Have just done my first ever night cache with fire tacks and thoroughly enjoyed it, am already planning one of own! But are there anymore wihtin a reasonable distance? I live in west Wales near Lampeter. Anyone got any lists of night caches in the south wales area or can reccomend any?
  3. I have recently placed my first caches and so far so good! But it lead me to question - what makes a bad cache? What is a a bad location? What is a bad container? etc
  4. Thanks for that I will contact him and see if he can do that. If not I might be back for the walkthrough!
  5. My first TB has so far had a bit of an eventful life, it went missing after only 2 stops and now I have just discovered it has gone missing again, which I only found out because it has turned up in Gran Canaria whereas I thougt it was in the Midlands!!! The good news is, it is safe and well and has been picked up from a cache there, but is there anyway of regaining the lost miles? At present the person who has it has "picked" it up from the Midlands cache where it was last logged even though the actually found it in the Gran Canaria cache. Can I log it into and back out of the Gran Canaria cache myself, if only to collect some of the miles it has lost? Seems a shame to waste so many!!!! Any ideas??? Here is the TB http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=1992294
  6. Good news!!!! My nagging emails must have guilt tripped the person who had my TB and it has suddenly reappeared in the cache and has been picked up by an experienced TB carrier so all should be well.....for now!!!! Thanks for your help!
  7. Nice detective work Forman I will try that thanks!!! ;-) Just out of interest, how long do you think I should wait before sending out a replacement?
  8. Thanks for that I was wondering what to do. I will wait a bit longer then before sending out a replacement. Just hope the newbie that has got my TB suddenly remembers why he liked caching in the first place and gets back out there!
  9. Well the first ever TB I sent out has gone missing on its second cache not the best start am gutted!!!! Good news though the coin I sent out at the same time has visited three different countries already! Anyway back to the point, what do I do about the missing TB? It is still showing up as being in a cache, yet many of the logs confirm it is no longer there. One log from a relative newbie claims to have picked it up, but they have not logged it officially and have not been to another cache in months since this one. I have emailed them via geocache.com several times but to no avail, no response and no movement. What do I do now? Should I log the TB out of the cache and if so where should I put it? Any suggestions? Thanks
  10. I am fairly new to this caching lark and as yet have not placed a cache, but I do have some ideas of where to place some. Mostly on nice local footpaths etc. However I have one place I would really like to place one which I am not so sure about. It is marked as a local viewpoint and is a pull in area on common ground on a mountain. It has fantastic views and I think people would really appreciate them when they get here......but there is a small quarry behind and I think the odd small party may have been held there in the past and as a result there is a bit of litter (mostly cans in a pile) and traces of broken glass on the parking area. Generally the area just needs a good clear up. My question is, should I invite people to visit a location like this? I know alot of cachers take their children and I wouldn't like them to get hurt (although I'm sure most adults would be able to supervise their children adequately). It is well worth it for the view and the area around is largely unspoilt. What to do?
  11. Thank you all for your help, I know it's probably one of many queries regarding this but it's great to get a personal response, I will look into it! It's the maps that are my real issue, which ones are compatible with which unit and which ones are best for geocaching am also walking. I confess I am not very technically mided and find things like this difficult to work out and prefer just to be told!
  12. Thanks for those, it's just the sort of thing I was after. One off and unusual caches, sometimes difficult to tell from cache pages. Keep em coming if you can! Thanks
  13. I am planning on visiting this area at the weekend and was wondering if anyone could reccomend some good caches in this area. I won't have time for many but would like to hit a few while I am there, so what are the best ones? Thanks
  14. Hi all, I have been caching for a wee while now using a basic GPS unit and paper maps. However I am starting to find it kinda difficult to plan routes on paper and would like to invest in a unit which I can plan routes on my PC , including caches the down load it onto my GPS unit. I am after a relatively cheap unit, but will pay a bit more for one that works well and is easy to use. Also what map packs will I need? I also want to be able to use it to plan walks etc when not caching (like that happens!) What would people reccomend? Thanks for any suggestions!
  15. Am sure this is a well asked question so apologies for any duplication. I am getting ready to place my cache and I know I have seen some info sheets for cachers and muggles should they stumble across a cache, is there a template available for this anywhere? I can't seem to find what I am after on the website, but I may be looking in the wrong places! Please help!
  16. Your "purple points" are great :-) . exactly what I was after! So it IS acceptable to use a previous local find to give my trackables a starting point local to me? Thanks
  17. Sorry maybe I should have been clearer, they are my own trackable items and are brand new with no goals yet! I think I will probably just aim to get them to travel as far and wide as possible.
  18. Dear experiences cachers. I would like some help with my first trackables. I have just got myself a nice gingerbread man geocoin and a spider travel bug. I intend to start them on their journey very soon and as it happens I am going on a short break to the other side of the Uk and thought I would drop them off there. My questions are: When I activate them how quickly do I need to put them into their first cache? If I activate them and take them straight to their first cache whilst on my trip to Kent, will I loose the mileage I could make travelling from home to kent? If the mileage from home to Kent would be lost, is it acceptable to take them to a local cache and log a find, only to take them immediately home and then on to Kent? Not sure what the etiquette is for these things and I would like to get things right if I can! Many thanks
  19. Thanks so much, he is my first geocoin and off to travel the world....or so I hope!
  20. Hi all, Am after some help for a recent ebay purchase of mine - a gingerbread man geocoin. I assumed as they described it as trackable I would be sent an activation code with it. This was not the case! I have contacted the seller to see if they can help but in the meantime I thought I would ask you guys to see if you had any suggestions? I know I should probaly not have bought from ebay, but the little gingerbread man was so cute I couldn't resist! Thanks for your help!
  21. Aaaaaaahhhhhhh.......suddenly it all becomes clear, thank you!
  22. How gutting, the meet is the same weekend as a wedding I have to go to! Are there likely to be any other meets this summer?
  23. I am after a reasonably priced Garmin E Trex Venture HC GPS. Any condition considered. Look forward to hearing from you!
  24. Hi all, I am new to this, but love the idea and concept behind it, therefore I think it might become rather a hobby of mine! So I am wondering if there are any groups/clubs/meets/cachers in my area. I live near Lampeter in West Wales and would love to meet other fellow enthusiasts! Thanks
  25. Cool thanks for all that info. I'm gutted to say I will not be able to make the Talybont meeting as have a wedding. Are there any more events in Wales? How do I find out about them? I live in West Wales, near Lampeter.
