  1. As an update. My friend was able to send and receive from and to his wife's 62. I was not able to send or receive from my 400t. So this is only after I updated to 4.45 Beta
  2. I was out caching and hiking today and noticed a couple of things with my Oregon 450 1) I had to reboot a couple of times as the distance was stuck in the compass screen and seemed OK after the reboot. 2) I was with another cacher who also has an Oregon 450 with older version. Purchased at same time as mine. In the past we have been able to easily send caches wirelessly back and forth but today we couldn't. On a couple of tries the units showed 12% and 25% transfer and then reverted back to searching but most often just showed a searching message. Tried sending both ways to no avail and at different distances and different locations.
  3. My download just finished. Thanks for the effort. I'll leave it running for a number of days.
  4. That's not necessarily due to slow internet on your side. The original upload still isn't complete, only 60% done, which means nobody could possibly have more than that as of now. Once your download progress reaches that point, it will only go as fast as the original upload goes, which seems to be around 20-30 kB/sec. I don't understand this. When I look at the torrent it shows that I have downloaded 2.4 gb. On my hard drive I have an iso file "ibycus topo40.iso" that shows that it contains 4.06 gb of information. Also the torrent shows that the total file size is 3.78 gb. So is the iso file not the complete download and why would it show as being larger than the file that I'm downloading?
  5. Didn't see your last post so left my computer on all night and it stalled out at 454mb. I'll leave it running and see what happens. I do have utorrent...but when I click on your link I get the same page...all letters numbers and symbols. I'm no expert in torrents but if you click on the link and then in the utorrent screen click on add URL it will start the download if there is anything there. As Ibycus said he was going to turn off his computer so you might need to wait until later in the day.
  6. Don't ever underestimate the use of Google in solving or getting ideas on how to solve a particular puzzle.
  7. So what happens if the TB is taken by someone that doesn't read the instructions ( I assume there would be instructions attached that state how far abroad or in which county etc. the TB should be placed in) and starts it on a journey around the world?
  8. On a mac you get a small degree symbol by holding down ALT and typing k You get a larger symbol by holding ALT plus shift and typing the number 8 with the numbers at the top, NOT the number pad
  9. The souvenir for the Yukon is out now also Figured out how to add the image
  10. Just received PEI souvenir
  11. That's just it, I call them all caches and not favourites. I think that they are all worth trying for whatever reason, for instance you have to accompany your wife to the mall but are not into shopping so you do the LPC that's nearby to pass the time. Then there are those that you decide not to go after, for whatever reason, once you arrive in the vicinity.
  12. I'm not saying that anyone feels compelled to award them just to get rid of them. nOk1a did not go back to find the 6 favourite caches, he had bookmarked them, but he did go back to award the other 16 caches that he awarded but had not bookmarked as favourites. Did he feel compelled to award them? Only he can answer that but if they were his favourites then why were they not included in his bookmark list?
  13. I don't get it. Why if your favourite bookmark list only has 6 caches would you award 22 favourite points? This, in my opinion, is one of the places where the system fails. People will feel that they should award more points than they really should because they are available. I would prefer maybe 1 point for every 50 or even 100 cache finds. This number would give a better representation of the best caches that are out there because you would be more selective in awarding points.
  14. Favourites have been around for some time now and there have been a lot of discussions on the subject but I have not seen any discussion on not making use of the ability to assign favourites to caches. I will admit that I have not doled out any of my available favourite points as yet and am unconvinced that this feature is of any real value since the ratio is 1 favourite for every 10 cache finds. I just can't think of 400+ favourite caches that I have found. Do those that use them feel any obligation to try to use all of their allotted points? Maybe not, but will this be more compelling for newer cachers with fewer finds?
  15. One thing that I have noticed and it may only be my units, is that with my old 400t the cold really slowed the response to any action. I would wait for a prolonged period of time for the next screen to appear after touching a command. So far this has not occurred with my new 450 an 3-4 occasions that I have caches all day in -8 to -10C temperature. The batteries are another story. In the cold, freshly charged Powerex batteries went from all green bars to 1 green bar in about 10 minutes. Cached for a couple of hours like this. When I returned home and the unit warmed up it showed all green bars again.
  16. Just received the NWT souvenir. #6 of 13 Nice one with northern lights and gyrfalcon.
  17. Have you noticed that the official bird of each province is at the top amongst the maple leafs?
  18. + one on being jealous about the Nunavut one. 4 down 8 to go for my Canadian souvenirs
  19. I noticed that I have the Quebec one also. I also have the Nova Scotia one. It's kind of neat. Sort of reminds me of a postage stamp.
  20. Don't know if you noticed but the US state souvenirs all have a button that says ?of 50. For instance Maine is 23 of 50. Also there are 4 states that are classed as commonwealth but they are included in the 50 states so why not include the territories as part of Canada with each getting its own souvenir. If you look at the New York state souvenir it also includes a large picture of Niagara Falls and 11 of 50 I think that the button in the corner looks better than the 1 of 13 across the bottom

  22. Toady around 11:00am EST I was walking along a road by a highway with clear view of the blue sky with sun shining and all of a sudden my Oregon 450, with BETA 4.32 and GPS Software 5.00, lost reception. I stopped and waited about 5 min but I could not get a lock on any satellites. I shut the unit off and restarted it and it picked up satellites right away and functioned normally the rest of the afternoon. This is a new unit purchased in December 2010. Anyone have any thoughts or similar experience?
  23. Thanks for the replies. Funny, it seems to be doing what I want it to now. In the past I could swear that it was still showing caches that I had on my ignore list and I even looked at it this morning before posting the new topic. My old eyes and mind must be failing faster than I thought. I better get out and find some caches.
  24. My ignore list is gradually getting larger so when I look at the caches on the "Geocaching.com Google Map" it sometimes is difficult to know which ones are on my ignore list and which ones are not. As an example I often place puzzle caches on my ignore list if they are of a type that I am not interested in working on but there are other puzzle caches in the area that I have or intend to try to solve. Is there an easy way to weed these unwanted ones out when viewing the map as can be done with found or my caches?
  25. The compass on the map screen always points to the next cache. If you want to navigate to a marked waypoint. Here is the way I do it on my Oregon 400. From the "waypoint manager" I chose the desired waypoint. Go down to "View Map", press "GO" Then go to the large compass screen and it will point to the selected waypoint while the map screen will still point to the nearest geocache. Hope this helps.
