  1. Thanks for the replies. I finally figured what I was doing wrong. From the GSAK export I chose Magellan Protocol (SD card) instead of Explorist Geocaches so everything works well now. Lot of fiddling around to make the transfer as child waypoints are not included in the counts after a filter in GSAK and there were over 30 in one of my filters (168 count showed) which put me over the 200 mark. Now I just need to keep the file system straight in my head along with new iMac, Parallels and Win XP2.
  2. Premium member using an explorist XL and just upgraded to the euro firmware. Recently trying to go paperless with an old palm m500, GSAK and cachemate. Does anyone use a card reader to upload waypoints to the sd card via GSAK and how do you break down a large number of waypoints after a pocket query to different files. I tried to do this but was only able to access 1 file that had information on it. I tried breaking the waypoints with filters using distance and keeping them below #200, the magic number for the explorist, and then exporting to the different files. It seemed to go well but after I choose the geocaching file in the menu, the waypoints for only one file show up on the GPSr. Thanks for any help you can give.
  3. I was in Fogh Marine in Toronto to-day and noticed that they had various accessories for Magellan Meridian GPS in their sale bin. Various cables, cigarette lighter power cord, window mount (orig price $69.99) etc each for $9.99. They are located at 901 Oxford Street, Toronto, near Islington and the QEW. the following shows map and address http://www.foghmarine.com/locate_us.asp I hope someone can use this information. Have a happy holiday.
  4. Look at any hardware store or building center in Canada, that's almost the only type that are available there for instance http://www.canadiantire.ca/home.jsp
  5. I'm using an old Palm M500 that I had kicking around with sd card, Cachemate and GSAK and a Magellan Explorist XL. Just getting the hang of using these tools.
  6. I have just over 600 finds under my belt and have just tried paperless caching for the first time yesterday, finding 7/8 caches. Some of these involved keeping track of clues from the caches to lead to other caches. I also like to keep track of distance and special attributes of the cache for personal use or to enter into the logged finds on gc.com. I used to write this information on each individual printout for reference and found it quite confusing to do without these printouts. My question is, how do y'all, that have been paperless for some time, keep track of all of this information? Thanks rovers3
  7. You can go to the MNR webpage at the following (http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/MNR/index.html) and near the bottom is a link to 2006 hunting regulations which is the following (http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/MNR/pubs/pubmenu.html#hunting) Look up the map for the area you are interested in then look up the area number under all of the individual types of game that they hunt for. Hope this helps. As far as wearing orange is concerned I recently read that a few years ago two hunters were shot while setting up decoys and both were wearing Orange hats and jackets.
  8. Tried the mentioned searches but came up empty. Can you post a link to the info please. Thanks.
  9. You can load regions onto an sd card from Mapsend Topo and use it in the Explorist XL by entering the new serial number. This sd card will be good for this unit. Use another sd card with a different serial number for a different unit. I have done this for both a Meridian Platinum and for my Explorist XL. You don't need to reinstal the program. Hope this helps.
  10. The other day the dog comes out off my office with my usual caching bag in her mouth and starts walking back and forth between me and the front door as if to say "Get off your fat a** and lets get going, there's caches to find out there."
  11. An interesting site and its links for information on batteries http://www.batteryuniversity.com/
  12. Since you know Cinder Lake have you tried these on the other side of the highway? South end of the Big East (GCNYHJ) Big E (GCNX63)
  13. The hint leads you to the name of the code. It is one variation of this code that you need to use. The first word when deciphered is "dearest". Hope this helps. rovers3
  14. Just thought you might like ans update. We did The Falls Tour North - Convergence II, Duck Chutes, and Snowshoe Up, yesterday and the snowshoeing was pretty good 8-12" of snow and another 8-12" fell last night. Found all three with little problem all in good shape, but may be harder as more snow falls. r&v
