  1. No good it it was just the restart from the OS update that temporarily fixed it. Froze after the first cache again. Not sure what to do now other than a full reinstall....
  2. I updated my iPhone to iOS 11.3.1 and it appears to be working at present. Will post again if it fails today
  3. Yep, tried that - no change. It was on and I toggled off>on to try and push it. No luck
  4. HA! I didn't read your comment prior to posting archsmooth - Didn't think of trying the native compass, that's frozen for me too! Must be a hardware/OS thing for sure.
  5. Same problem here. I wouldn't say that my compass 'points in the wrong direction', mine is more like it's just frozen in a random position. Like other users the distance still ticks down on the app, so at present i'm playing a little game of Hot/Cold to make my way to the cache if I can't line it up geographically. It started after I recently did a bulk app update and GC app was in there too. I've made no changes to the OS since the problems started, so the app update is the only thing I can pinpoint for my device as it was working perfectly prior. I find if I soft reset the phone I might get one cache out of it before the screen locks and the compass freezes again after unlocking the phone. Will update my OS shortly and see if that helps.
  6. So after only a little while in caching, I've identified logs to be a critical part of the process and good logs are highly regarded in the scene, often being a short story (a 'novella log' perhaps?) of the finder's personal experience. Flicking though the previous logs you can often notice some quality time has been spent on some and improves the cache. Another thing I noticed recently was FTF on a cache I had just published made a 'field log' to time-stamp the find, but then later edited the original log in a more detailed fashion. Admittedly, I hardly have the time to cache, I'm lucky if I get 3 in a week - let alone time at the scene to log in a super-appreciative fashion with a novella log. Plus as a CO I now find a log referring to my username in the log feels far more personal, but on the phone app you have to back out of the logging screen to get that if you forgot to add it on the way in. So, my questions is: how many folks out there are logging in a field log status, then updating later? or if not FTF are you perhaps making a few quick paper notes, then logging when you have the time to think about the more detailed novella log?
  7. Good point! Although after spending a little more time in the scene I've personally found a good portion of the fun is logging the find publicly, which you can't do if you d/l the premium content and find at a later date. Having said that, you could manually catalogue your finds, then log them once a month in the 24/48-hour period to beat the system. In hindsight, it's only a small annual fee in reality and after the trial i'm going premium for sure - it just opens so many more caches up and being short on time with a small family it's better if we can get bang-for-buck geographically. Plus, when they're not with me I can tackle caches beyond D2/T2, which will be a blast. Fav Points are also a bonus. On holidays soon to keen to put some more time into finds!
  8. Howdy, With the exception of saving the TB number into my Trackable Search Bar I can't find a way to quickly see what my owned trackables are doing. Am I missing something?
  9. seems there was a 30 min lag on the App for some reason.. I CAN SEE MULTI'S!!!!!
  10. Hi All, Activated my Trial just now (so I could make full use of Christmas holidays!) and it doesn't seem to be flowing through to my iPhone app, which is still showing free member features only. Have tried force-quitting the app and when that didn't work I signed out and then in again - still no luck. Any pointers? TIA
  11. Ah, perhaps if i searched the correct term for it... https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=7&pgid=287 Thanks!
  12. I'm preparing myself for hot fire here, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to LIKE a cache? When using the iPhone app I can see the likes it may have received, but can't give it one myself. Is the feature available only to premium members perhaps?
  13. Hi All, I have a free month premium trial that I'm going to activate on the weekend and am itching to have a crack at some multi's. I've read many will take you to the initial location (where you'd normally find a traditional) and in the cache is instead coordinates for the next stage. Currently I use the Geocaching app on my phone and I cannot for the life of me find out where to input these coordinates! Hoping someone can enlighten me. TIA
  14. Alright - We're starting to really enjoy this, I might jump on the Premium Trial bandwagon if that's cool?
  15. Whoops! Perhaps if i'd read that correctly I could have avoided this entire thread - silly me. Makes sense to have some sort of camo I guess if it's exposed when in location, otherwise no I guess. I am very much looking forward to hiding a cache Thanks All
  16. Hi All, Very new to this, so I'm doing lots of reading to get my head around it, particularly as I'd like to do a hide shortly. Something I noticed in the Hiding Guidelines was this statement: Choose a transparent container to show that the contents are harmless. Not sure about the rest of the world, but in Aus it seems that Sistema food containers are extremely popular as cache containers: http://sistemaplastics.com/products/klip-it-rectangular I'm a little confused though as whilst they are transparent almost every single one of these I've come across has been painted black - even if the cache is a concealed hide. Is the transparent container rule only new, or perhaps simply a suggestion?
  17. Don't suppose you're able to let me know where to find the Travel Bug Map?
  18. Thank you. Can't re-log, app won't let me Retrieve it again as it's already in my inventory. Oh well, it still lets me visit caches, just the original pickup has gone. Cheers for your input
  19. Crap - I also deleted the Log as it was saying i picked it up from a different cache than I actually did. Deleted the log as I was hoping I could re-log and force the system to show where I picked it up from - now it seems to have been deleted completely and I can't re-log. anyone have a tip on that too. #derp
  20. Hi All, New user - Landed my first Trackable today. Just wondering if there's a way to view the caches that it's travelled through, but in a map view? I did find the map for the total distance in my web login, but it doesn't note the individual caches, only a direct line from it's original location - any pointers? TIA, seven_neves
  21. As another new user, with a small family, we'll also be using it fairly infrequently. In addition to the monthly/annual subscription, I was thinking yesterday a 'by demand' option would be good too - where if you found you had a few hours to spare you could pay say $2-3 and it subscribes you to the more premium caches for say 24 or 48 hours. This way we could perhaps have a cache day once per month and not feel like we've blown a whole month's worth of subscription on the 4-5 hours you might get to use it. (I have young kids so they can't trudge around all day). Just a n00b thought!
