Have to agree with KB3JRJ. An amateur radio license is very easy to obtain. Amateur radio equipment can take advantage of the widespread network of repeaters and other infrastructure. Ham radio as a hobby dovetails with geocaching very well. Go to http://www.arrl.org for more info on getting licensed
