any other suggestions?

I have done some research and i'm going to go with a pocketpc, an IPAQ... not sure of the model but i dont think that it matters since they can all take a pcmcia or SD card. Just curious if any of you have any recomndations or ones to stay away from. I'm wanting something that gets good signal in cover... like in a jungle or parking garage or house. Any ideas? thanks ahren

PocketPC is probably preferred over palm... do you know how / how much to upgrade to the 2002 OS?

IF you want to bypass an entry level unit and get something you can use for a few years, you should consider my Etrex Vista. It has a car charger, home charger, serial cable to hook up to a computer. 24mb of internal memore so you can load a TON of maps into it. I will also throw in my backup copies of all my mapsource software... Topo's for the whole USA, Roads & Rec, world map, canada base map and a couple others i think... all for $230 shipped! let me know gps@ahreno.com

world map US Topo I may be blind, but i don't see anything about version info... I do see it on a couple... like metro guide (version 5) but not on the ones I own.

I have the following Topo East V2. Topo West V2 Topo AK/HI V3 World Map V2 and am soon getting: US R & R, US waterways and lights Canada Metroguide and then the US metro guide (is it on 2 cd's?) not sure which versions of these i'm getting as i havent received them yet. but if you know the current version numbers, i'd love to know... otherwise post what version you have! ahren feel free to email me. garmin@ahreno.com

hmm, i don't seem to need any unlock codes for my Topo US maps.... unless maybe i'm missing some info in them. also, whats to stop that group of 20 people from just sharing the code? i"m sure that the algorythm (sp?) is built into the software to check if the code is valid... so one code should be able to unlock the same stuff on 20 different machines.. no?

I guess, i just don't have any idea what it would unlock... help/

I have Gatrmin World Map, and Topo maps for East / West and AK / HI. I believe its version 2.0 for east and west and world map, and version 3 for Alaska and Hawaii.. What are the current versions for these? What maps do YOU have for your garmin unit? I think i am trading with a friend to get 17cd's worth of USA topos done by National Geographic. Are there any topos available for central america?

The only problem with my software is that it is backup copies. My originals were destroyed in a fire, so most people would think i was tryign to trade aqway something that i didnt buy in the first place, but that's just wrong.

I'm looking into getting a Palm m516 with a Magellan GPS Companion. I already have 4 cd's worth of garmin maps which is a decent investment. Will i be able to use these maps with my Palm / Magellan companion?
