  1. So this "new" app is not an update to the Groundspeak app, right? I need to go to Google Play and download this new app? I'm pretty slow, sometimes.
  2. Here is my first, and favorite library cache: https://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GCGW92&title=gargoyles Check out the hint.
  3. I do not know if smartphone software will work. That is what I am looking for, to see if there is a good application for my Google Nexus tablet. I have been using a Garmin handheld for several years now. Tomorrow will be my first attempt at using the GPSr in my tablet. For now, I would say you will need a "real" GPSr.
  4. Is there a way to do this? I have a convoluted route planned on Google Maps that I want to transfer to my Garmin Oregon 450. http://goo.gl/maps/Bm5c7 I have tried using the "Send" feature on Google Maps, but that only transfers the initial point. I'm trying to not have to create the route manually on my GPS. I have Garmin BaseCamp software, but I don't see any way of creating routes on there, either. Thank you!
  5. Thanks phlatlander - you made my night! I will definitely get one of those ZAGGs. Probably one for my iPod too, if the cheapie from Amazon never arrives. Speaking of screen protectors on iPods, a coworker just removed his after many years and he couldn't believe the difference in brightness. I bought one of those military-grade iPod cases and it had a built-in screen protector on it. It made the screen WAY too dark, and I play a lot of "solitaire" (Spades & Backgammon) at work, so that wasn't going to make it. I returned the case, and then a couple of days later my iPod fell out of my shirt pocket onto the concrete. Yep - cracked upper r-h corner glass. But everything still works and it is in the "black zone", so other than my pride not too much has been lost. Trouble is, with that H-D case on, I could not plug in my old school speaker plug. It is too big where you grab the plug. Nowadays, everything is made with a slim plug. But the iPod doesn't generate enough power to play music loudly. Need powered speakers. Thanks again for the really helpful tips. I really did try the downloaded manual, first.
  6. Not much of my knowledge from my Legend seems to transfer to the Oregon 450. It is nice, being color and having a data card, and the touch screen will be nice on the motorcycle (if it works with gloves on [it does!]), but otherwise I am having a really hard time figuring out the basics. (I tried the Garman Oregon Wiki, too. Unimpressed with that site.) What I am trying to do is pan the map to an area away from my home location (where I am now - this thing doesn't seem to have an "operate with satellite off" mode, either), and mark a waypoint at a location away from home (that has no address) that I want to navigate to. Help? Thanks.
  7. Thanks for the reply Team Dennis. Yeah, with the weird weather this year, I doubt I will be trying my Wintertime impression of Jesus... I will check out that park for sure!
  8. Hi all! I am coming to Saint Paul for two weeks soon for work, and I thought I would fill in the gaps with some caching! (Of course...) I was wondering how much snow is on the ground right now? And hopefully you will get some seasonal temps and I will be able to walk the ice to Bear Island! http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=72d81116-16bd-476e-bc92-498df11a7faf I will be staying at the Country Inn just north of the ammunition plant on 85th Ave NE, if you want to suggest any particularly good caches in that neighborhood. Thanks! Rob in Indianapolis
  9. Ahhh...nevermind. I went to Buy.com, and found a new one for $119. And I got free shipping as long as I could be patient. This one still functions as long as I don't ride in the rain! Legend On My Motorcycle I got almost 4 years service out of a unit I paid $150 for. I found it on this forum, used. Thank you guy down in Tennessee, it was a great purchase! I hope my new one is as good.
  10. I am looking to replace mine, that was all but destroyed in a parking lot tip-over on the motorcycle. HELP!
  11. I will be traveling in May, and a friend wants to rendezvous at a park with camping that would include a cache for us to hunt. I looked a little at the Google Map search, but I felt I was looking at a haystack! Any suggestions from the locals? Thanks! maps 'n motorcycles
  12. I am coming down the weekend of the 16th. I'll be staying at The High Country M/C Camp. I have looked at a few, but there are so many, like in Boone! I don't have time to read them all! I saw one that hiked down to a waterfall, but the hike back up would be a killer come time to put the leather jacket back on! So I scratched that one. I like the sound of Railroad Grade, even if it is missing! I really want to try something like Off Road 4x4 #1..., but the description sounds like it might be a bit much for my street motorcycle, even though I am crazy enough to see how far I could get. But something like it, but not quite so intense. Thank you!!! cliky on da piky
  13. While googling one day, I found a blog that mentioned this restaurant. It had a website, so I checked it out. Check out the prices on the menu! I called today to make sure their website was up-to-date, and they said it was. http://www.spenglers.com/ No doubt those in the area know of this gem!
  14. I am not a lurker, so I guess I shouldn't be replying to the topic! I have been caching for about 2 1/2 years now, but I rarely come to the forums (1-2 times a year?), unless it is to find an answer for something. Tonight it was to find a relevant thread on software like EasyGPS to point a new user to. About the only other subjects I might come here for are to meet the geocaching love of my life, others who geocache on their motorcycle, and the local threads. I will admit to finding some entertainment on the weird and unusual cache discussions.
  15. I have a evening and a full day with a friend in Boardman, on the south side of Youngstown. I will be introducing him to Geocaching. Any suggestions on good ones in the neighborhood to show off to a first timer and to a visitor to the area? And does Ohio not allow caches at rest areas? I did not see any on 71 north of Columbus nor 76 across. I have a whole day (Wed.) to go from Indianapolis to Youngstown, so I plan on hitting a couple along the way. Thanks!
  16. Congrats on your 100th! I know how you feel as of yesterday. And the really neat thing is, is that I didn't even realize it until I finished entering my logs and saw my total - 100! That's what a little warm weather (even if you are standing in the middle of a open cemetery in a lightning storm...) in the winter will do to a lazy cacher! Plug in some #'s and git outa the house!
  17. Is there any way Jerome could give us an update on this project?
  18. Same here, AtlantaGal. My initial cache name was my normal online handle: tomfarr. That is my late brother's first and middle names. I do run into places on the net where it has already been taken. After about 9 months I began working on something more descriptive of myself - especially in geocaching terms. Viper, you need to work on yours...
  19. Well, here is the thread I've been looking for! Check out my profile, Indiana ladies, and let me know! Oh, and congrats 'ho and mopar!
  20. Here are the photos of the chip I picked up: one side and the other side
  21. I was in Vegas last January, and I found chips just like this in a gift shop for a rediculous price - something like 25c each! You could choose from a number of dollar values on the chips. The chips I bought to use for trade items ($100/black) were very nice. I was surprised later when I found that a 'fridge magnet stuck to them. The center is metal! I'm not sure what the edge is made from, but they look exactly like the ones in the link. I'll scan one and post it here for you to see when I get home. (I found a magnet would stick to the edge of the chip, as well).
  22. Ghostwriter, thanks for the information! Here is the Link to Indiana's Database. I'm sorry, I thought you saw this link in my initial post. From what I have seen, most states probably have a database online already. I was impressed by the book that Teach2Learn linked to. Indiana is getting ready to publish along the same lines. It's a shame we couldn't have included the co-ords in it. It is just about to go to press. Next edition, I guess. There are more signs going up all the time, which will ensure updated printed editions. Thank you everyone for your support in my inquiry! maps
