  1. I would try and sue the cache placer!!!!!!! If you want any advice I'm willing to help or NOT Sure most regulars will understand what I mean!!!! Nick
  2. Well done PO8!!! What is this free drink link, like that idea!!!! Cheers, HIC Nick
  3. Blimey 24 caches!!!! Are there that many in Devonshire, bet you can't wait till they post your 25th cache Cheers Nick, well done on the 24 HUNDRED
  4. Ciao Tutti, OK, I do like a micro in a "city" location, but what is the point of devious micros in a rural "wooded" location!!! I know that caching is each to his own, if you like a devious micro in a wood then good luck BUT, if like me you only cache on co-ords, then you WILL find yourself looking for a micro in one of twenty trees!!!!!!!!! My concern is that the whole area around the "GZ" becomes a total "trashing" of the the trees (fauna) but to what end?? Do we need a new cache "listing" mini-rural, will take two hours poking about in a tree roots, but will be the wrong tree roots, come back in a couple of weeks and it will look like a BOMB SITE. I COULD PLANT MANY "MICRO-RURALS". you offset the co-ords by about 20m, the clue is "tree roots" and then sit and watch, WHAT!! the DNFs. or the poor cachers trying to find the cache?? Is the purpose of caching to actual FIND the cache!! If you are trying to guess my "caches" in question, look at my latest finds and see the other "local" caches RANT OVER!! Cheers Nick
  5. Seem to be posting only about mapping software!!! I tried to get a cheap copy of Garmin TOPO V2 from "fleabay", as you do. If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is!!! BECAUSE have just been informed by the "fleabay police" that the guy is selling "copies". Will not post anything in public BUT if you would like to know who/when/why/what drop me an e-mail and I'll let you know. Looks like Garmin are looking for the people who bought the dodgy copies. Luckily, I queried the payment method, so I'm alright (well two tenners in a tubberware box in Epping Forest sounded a bit dodgy, JOKING!!!!!) Regards Nick
  6. As others have stated DON'T buy Mapsource it only shows roads and has some roads MISSING!! Even worse, it even shows some bridleways as roads!!!!! Roads & Recreation when loaded is 37.8 MB all 300 Maps, whole UK Metroguide when loaded is 115.3 MB all 312 Maps, whole UK I will soon have Memory Map so will be able to compare all three MM, Fugawi and Mapsource. Regards Nick
  7. One police force, I think it was Thames Valley, use to do checks on car parking areas and put a sign on the windscreen saying "Nothing of value, has been left in the vehicle". They were yellow with black lettering and made quite well, for you to leave on the dashboard. Police force in question would have covered Ashridge/Ivenhoe so not sure if it was Thames Valley or Beds, sure a culprit from Berko would know I use to have one but cannot lay my hands on it at the moment. Cheers Nick
  8. Hi Matrix, Know the feeling very well!!! Drive a van and have been broken into four times in less than two years Have lost 3 x Laptops 2 x GPS, 1 x iPaq, don't worry about the "c*!%s" who nicked the gear they wont go cache hunting, too stoned or pissed to worry about a tubberware box. I lost some test equipment out of the back of my van, value £30,000 (yes £30K) it was found in a layby about one week later BUT,a few days in the rain and it was total scrap I know it is of NO help, but don't leave ANYTHING on display, I say this as my wife's car was broken into and they stole the cat's worming tablets, they were on the passenger seat. Just have a vision of some junky trying to inject himself with them, you have to laugh Keep smiling Cheers Nick
  9. I'm "lumbered" with Fugawi as it was provided for work. Is OK on a laptop but better than useless on an iPAQ, crashes and freezes at random. Also have real problems getting Fugawi to pick up my bluetooth GPS, I use FransonGate which works great on the TomTom but have to "fiddle" with the comm port settings on the iPAQ to get Fugawi to work. Trying to convince "work" we should have MM, but is is more expensive than Fugawi so bit of a struggle. The only way I have found to load "waypoints" is to use GSAK and create a Fugawi export text file. Then load this on the LAPTOP and use the Fugawi PDA Export function, for map slices/waypoints, bit slow but it works. If you live in Kent, there is a problem with Fugawi V 4.5, basically most of Kent isn't there. We may have a "duff" CD but once you cross the Dartford Bridge, Fugawi displays a black screen, on a notebook & iPAQ. As for Fugawi support, I'll give you my mobile number and you can talk to my cat as he will have more ideas!!! Does MM have the export map limit that Fugawi does, you get an error message if you try and export a map "tile" greater then 1600km squared? Regards Nick
  10. Hi All, Thanks for all the info'. I use "mapping" info for my work, mobile phone industry, and as Fugawi is based upon UK OS, we have found it to be much more accurate then the "other" offerings, i.e. footpaths, bridleways, etc etc It has is faults, particularly when caching, as many new "permissive" rights of way are not shown. I'll take Pharisee's offer for a demo', nothing to do with "mapping software", but a few beers!!! Cheers Nick
  11. Want to log a cache, try WARDRIVING Nick
  12. Very quick one!! Does Garmin Mapsource TOPO show EVERY, repeat EVERY, footpath/bridleway/"other rites of way" in the UK?? Think I have seen it but the info' was not very accurate, RE:-footpaths etc. Currently using Fugawi "downloads" on a PDA to pick correct footpaths/bridleways but have the option to upgrade, to something new!! PS:- I'm not paying, need mapping/GPS/software for work!! Regards Nick
  13. I work in the mobile phone industry so I get into some very dubious places!!! We get a lot of instruction/training to never press the button in a lift, for a high rise (block of flats) as it is very common to place "snapped" off needles in the lift buttons!! I always carry a screwdriver, just to press the lift buttons. We use to carry a "sharps" box to collect the needles we found, but we then had a problem of getting rid of what we have found. About a year ago, on a typical "city" site we could pick up about 5 "sharps" a day. Worst site I visited, East End of London, could have picked up +50 Did actually come across a dead "druggy" about a year ago which was not that nice Very sad to say, that at a very "rural" site in Lincolnshire we found about 4-5 "sharps" only last week Just trying to say "BE CAREFUL",you can come across a "sharp" anywhere! Nick
  14. I know a supermarket next to a railway station 2 miles from the M1. (Note to self: order magnetic nano's) ;-) Sounds like Flitwick. Any Bedfordshire cachers want to take this up I was in that Tesco's this morning!!! Up for a cache here, but where do I go for permission? Do we have an agreement with Tesco's for their car parks??? Don't fancy standing in line at customers services and asking "can I stick my micro in your trolley park" Could always try and work out some sort of deal, extra club points with every micro found or double club points if it is a nano!! Could call it Supper Market Sweep, but hasn't that been done before!!! Cheers Nick PS:- Totally non-geocaching related so tagged on the end!!! While trying to buy two bottles of wine in stated Tesco's, was asked "are you 21"!!! Very truthful answer NO!!, but trying to be funny I said "No, but my daughter is 22" Reply from checkout, " I'm not interested in how old your daughter is, are you over 21" As Wogan would say, IS IT ME!!!
  15. Felt it, blimey ended up on the floor, no drink involved Actually in a hotel in Louth about 10 miles away, everything really shook, people (one woman and two men) running around the hotel screaming, couple of car alarms went off and then nothing. That was really strange all the chaos and then total silence. Minor damage in the hotel this morning, broken plates/pictures but nothing else. Staff in the hotel over breakfast actually said that it was the most exciting thing that has every happened in Louth!!! Well, have you ever been to Louth Apologies to any Louth cachers Cache in the area, have to have look as i'm in the area quite a lot. Cheers Nick
  16. ALL SOLD!!! Whoops just noticed the pinned topic about "car boot" sales. Sure a nice moderator will move this topic for me. Cheers Nick
  17. Any offers on six US ARMY "Decon" Containers, if you don't know what they are "google" them. I'll split them if you don't want six. E-mail me if anyone wants them as they have been in my garden shed for nearly two years and I'll never use them. If you live in the Beds/Bucks/Herts area might be able to deliver them. Regards Nick
  18. Had my own brush with the boys in blue a while ago. Sorry don't know how to had a link to the log (e-mail me and let me know, would love to know!!!) Cache was GCQB2P-Playing Detectives Cheers Nick edited to add link to the log I'll email how in a little bit
  19. There are actually quite a few cachers in dear old Beds!! I've been in Bed(s) all my life and have done one or two caches I've seen it, (Beds) described as "a stinking Brickyard in the middle of a Brussel field!!", well description is about right, until end of 02/08 when the Brickfields will be no more. Most of the "old" cachers are more towards Luton, there are some very, very old ones that way, wont name names as I think most can run faster then me Think we should put a toll booth on the A6 at Barton to keep the Luton hoards out If your new to the "game" drop me an e-mail, glad to talk about beds caching anytime you like. Cheers Nick (An orignal Beds Clanger) PS:- Im from a village between Bedford and Shefford, wont name it, just in case the hoards from Luton take offence and come looking for me PPS:- Watch out for those bucks, they are very devious, WELL some of their caches are!!!!!!!
  20. There was a piece on Radio 2 today about the same subject, OK I'm old and listen to Radio 2!!! They seem to get a lot of calls from walkers "people" who are simple tried or their legs ache. The late for a dinner party call was also mentioned, seems they got lost in the mist. When the MRT said it would take a few hours to find them they asked for a helicopter as they would be late for the dinner party As they are purely a volunteer service and don't get ant central funding they do a wonderful job. The main message was don't go out unprepared and don't put all your faith in your GPS, take a good map and compass, and know your limits. The MRT guy did actually say that they had come across a man using a Tom Tom and another carrying a notebook, using Microsoft Autoroute, to navigate on the Lakes "fells" Like Pharisee I've come across people totally unprepared, while doing the cache on the Pyg Track up Snowdon the mist came down out of no where. I was close to the old dissued mine and came across 4 teenagers (about 15-16 years old) dressed in trainers, shorts and T-shirts, this was in early April and it was cold and wet. They asked me for help, so unsure what to do I thought about calling MRT as I didn't fancy trying to bring them down on my own. Luckily 2 other walkers appeared and we helped them back down, they were wet and cold and this was only from about 700 feet up. Never did do that cache, can't remember what is was even called!!! Cheers Nick
  21. Hi All, Posting from the UK so bear with me!! If your TB/Coin has been muggled, knicked (stolen), lost, not logged etc etc!! How can you just get rid of them?? I mean delete the fact it ever existed. Have five TBs/Coins that I have dumped in the UK "graveyard" cache but they still show up in my, Trackables Owned. Is there a way to simply get rid of them, delete them totally?? Regards, from over the pond Nick
  22. Lincolnshire is now active!! LQ:LINCS - The Witham Happy Hunting to all. Cheers Nick
  23. Use to have a 76 until someone broke into my vehicle and knicked it!!!!!! Was using a 60c but convinced work that I needed a 60CSx, those "sensors" make all the difference. Put the pair together and the 60CSx will get full lock while the 60c is still flapping about. Under trees and poor signal areas the 60CSx is FAR, FAR better I assume that is the new "chip set" working. Still have the 60c, nothing wrong with it has a small mark on the screen, was going to put it on e-bay, anyone intrested? E-mail me if you are. Cheers St. Nick (Beds Clangers)
  24. As e-mailed, I'll take on Lincolnshire for you, should be able to get something out this week or next. Cheers Nick
  25. Thought Alibags was more of a Berko Tart than a "jeep" tart, TDW!!! Cheers Nick I've got my coat!!!
