  1. I stand by that it was excessive proactivity, disagree that the original post had nothing to do with geocaching, responded to the person who derailed the topic, and quicly brought it back on topic after I finished my post. And I even addressed that very point by saying that a moderator had derailed the post, not I. no response is necessary, I doubt you could change my opinion. This is silly. we're arguing about arguing.
  2. not to be rude, but nobody has said a word about a political argument. nothing even close to a political argument has taken place here. we're a group of people with similar interests planning travel bugs related to those interests.. your anticipation of an argument that may or may not happen really has no basis at this point and will not until someone who can't keep their comments to themselves hijacks the thread to turn it into something other than it's intended purpose; a political discussion rather than a travel bug planning discussion. at that point your obligation as a moderator to thwart the argument will be well respected, even expected. however, right now nobody other than yourself has even implied "a topic asking who is a Democrat, who is a Republican, who is an Independant, etc." so please hold off unless that happens.. don't get me wrong; i'm all for proactivity. but i feel that this is a little excessive. back on topic, i find it remarkable that there are at least 3 FSP members that frequent these message boards enough to see the post. i am glad that this thread was started or i wouldn't have had any idea. and i'm happy to help spread the travel bugs. and the creative symbolism of dropping them in places around the country with the intent of returning to the free state - how cool. how fun! thanks!
  3. The weather is supposed to be beautiful. I'll be there .. and will bring a couple of looooong ski poles. SInce I have never met any of you, I'm assuming it will be pretty obvious which group is the geocachers? Asking that question brings up pictures in my head of 20 people staring at their GPSr's walking in circles in an open field looking for each other.
  4. Is it just me or do Subarus seem to be a crummy value? I'm a happy Honda owner who is persuaded by a dozen subaru-driving friends that their cars are reliable enough, but when I went to seriously look at buying one they seemed really expensive.. Hondas seemed to be a lot more car for the money.
  5. My cat's name is mittens. Seriously, I stopped keeping up before the whole .net thing happened. Does this mean that premium members will be able to log caches through regular win32 programs (and not through the web interface)?
  6. Thanks for the priority code - I was on the fence about buying it and you made my decision for me. can't wait!
  7. Has anyone ever heard of the DEC removing (or otherwise prohibiting) summit registers? All the 3500' peaks in the catskills that don't have a trail have them - and most are in wilderness areas - yet woe be to the person who wants to put a register in off-limits wilderness territory and post it on the geocaching.com site. I just don't see much difference, especially when talking about caches with just a log book in them ..
