  1. My plans are to FLOAT and IMBIBE. No getting wet (looks to Rec, don't even think about it buddy). Now trying to walk my dog this morning when it was only 3 degrees...THAT'S NUTS! I'm coming over to warm up!
  2. Dude, this is California. We have thin blood and Tevas. Dude, let me tell you, your blood will thicken and you can wear wool socks with your Tevas and eventually graduate to Keens. As far as going shoeing with Criminal, be sure to avoid the "snow-crack special"...! To Crim: you can delete it, but I still saw it ..
  3. YAY to the g-people!!!! CONGRATS!
  4. Even though she's not here in person, she's always here in spirit, Pepper celebrated her 6000th before the end of the year!!
  5. <perk> Frito pie!!!??? Sounds like there is plenty going on that weekend and since the geo-ignorant spouse is out of town, I may just have to spend the weekend on that side of the mountains...
  6. Most fun I've ever had DNF'ing a cache. Something like 4" of snow fell in 4 hours, not to mention the countless times someone was on their butt, face, or waist deep in the snow. Had to fight the geo-ignorant spouse for the hot water when I got home (got most of it too ). I will definately be on the 2nd assault team (after I water-proof all my equipment)!!! The frito pie was delish, made better by great company.
  7. YeeHaw ....(shhhh.....typing from work ) I have someone to work for me tonight so I'll be there. I'll even bring the geo-ignorant spouse! You know, Allanon is baggin' on us because he saw how much frito pie he was going the have to bring since there are so many of us now. How long should I expect to beup there?
  8. Frito pie!!!!???? Holy Crow, he just ratcheted the pressure up! Working the phones to get a replacement for my shift and am considering forgoing sleep altogether since I get off at 0630. Figure a triple shot of toddy will get me up the pass by 0800, sleep for an hour waiting for everyone... How useful do you find trek poles? I was talking with a guide in BC a few weeks ago and he thinks they offer a false sense of security.
  9. OMG you were under my tree this morning as well!!??? That box I'd been shaking for over a week WAS a pair showshoes!!! WooHoo!! But....I'm scheduled a night shift on Saturday so...I'm thinking this nagging cough might get worse or I'll see if I can find someone to take pity on me and switch a shift.
  10. How about Hollow Tree? I did that one last winter, and it's a nice, easy snowshoe. We took some first-time showshoers and they didn't have a problem, even with the creek crossing and small hills. The snowshoe caches I know about (including Hollow Tree) are on my Snowshoe Cache bookmark list. I am sure there are more, so I welcome suggestions for additional listings from anyone; this is a public list. Hollow Tree it is! With the recent snow storms and more on the way, it's looking pretty good to go. I'm changing the date I'll be going to Sunday morning, the 30th, so my wife can join. She's not a big hiker and we'll probably lag behind but we will have fun all the same. I am going to "try" to make it. I have family in town so making a graceful exit is always tricky. But more importantly, that big package under the tree that I've been shaking for the last week sounds like the snow shoes I've wanted and I'll need an excuse to go make sure they'll work... WOO HOO!!!
  11. I cross the border often (although not as often as HC), I've had to deal with a lot of renewals, visas and the such and you would be amazed at how fast they come back now. Only 10 days for both of my kid's passports and that's without the expedited transaction. Fill out the writable .pdf online, print it out and take to it and your photos and your expired passport to the post office. $30.00 to the post master and $67.00 to the State Dept in 2 separate checks and you'll have them straight away. Dept of State link Good luck
  12. I was out in California Where I hear they have it all They got riots, fires and mud slides They got sushi in the mall Water bars and Brontosaurs Chinese modern lust Shake and bake life with the quake The secret's in the crust Fruitcake lyrics by Jimmy Buffett ACK! I can't believe I forgot the 4th season!!!! Earthquakes!
  13. (note to self: bring own flask next time...) I am disappointed I couldn't go. Looks to be a beautiful area and I will try to go with you on the second attempt then at least you'll have someone who can bandage and drag your sorry butt out...
  14. Nope, by then the fires will have gotten that far north and will be slowing/stopping the the trains. I know there are a few wondering if I would pipe in on this subject...well that last comment got me... Being a SoCal native, having my mother's house lost in a landslide a few years ago (weirdest, most surreal thing you'll ever see watch), my husband communting on a derailed Amtrak from LA to San Juan Capo (tell me I didn't panic when I saw the news flash), and now I can't even watch the TV and watch 1/2 of San Diego on fire. It kills me. I know your comment is made in jest, but it's tacky. As much as California provides joke fodder (I'm to blame as well), it is best to wait until a disaster is over before saying such things. Ex-fiance is a battalion chief in the heart of SD County and my best friend is evacuated. Fortunately, I am going home for a week in 10 days so I can take it all in and not rely on spits and spots of information. Say a prayer for them. <stepping of her platform> Now to lighten up the mood. They say there are 3 seasons in California: Fires, Slides and Smog.
  15. BUMP, event is this weekend! I've ordered nice weather and there are a bunch of new caches to be had over here....
  16. Bummer. I love the hikes and the company but I'll be busy with the Wenatchee Valley Rally that day. Next month isn't promising either with a large portion of my energy going to the San Diego 3Day walk .
  17. Not a "geocaching" milestone, but a milestone that happened to a geocacher....CONGRATS to G-People for the birth of son #3 on Sunday.... she's trying to keep up with Xy, Xx, xy,xy,xy,xy....
  18. Congrats my friend. I thought you were too busy to cache with potatoes coming in and all...? Oh that's right, you don't sleep. Harvest during the day, cache at night.... So I'll see you at the rally?
  19. To quote my 93 year old grandmother, "People in hell want ice water".
  20. Penny was by far the star hiker, I was exausted just watching her. A great hike and even better company. I do wish more had turned out since it's a great way to get to know other cachers better, see awesome scenery and of course, exercise! Thanks to my chaperones, I had a fantastic day!
  21. My Sister Sandy's Teeth!!!
  22. Please tell me you meant PROSTATE glands.... although, swollen ones may have you prostrated...
  23. I shall be there, and as an added bonus, I will be bringing the geo-ignorant spouse. He has no idea this is a caching trip.... so don't say anything to him...
  24. Geez, a person can only lurk so long before she has to actually get off her butt and reply... I would feel very uncomfortable taking any money and honestly can't remember how much it was. What's done is done and no action is needed. (That said, my son turned 16 and is now driving...wanna talk insurance rates...? )
