  1. So I shall state in the future. " The cache owner will not accept any responsibility for damage to property or person whilst in the search for this cache. You do so at your own risk." P.S. I wonder if I could get insurance for this?
  2. The original question was, about getting permission to lay a cache. Although I have not been active for a while, (long story) but have been out to bag a couple in the last few days. I have never got permission to place a cache. If I had then it would have taken much more time to find the owner, apply for permission, and wait for an answer. Most of the caches I placed were on public land. Do I need permission to kick a ball about on public land? This hobby/game is just that. Private land. That is another ball game. But you hide a cache and it should be discreetly hidden, be it public or private land. We cachers are I hope sensible people. Discretion is the way it should be done. If I placed a cache in Londons Hyde park without permission, which I did, and was accepted by the grounds men there. Then to me I could place one anywhere I please.
  3. All cachers should have a dog. No matter where you wander, with a dog you don't get those strange looks whilst looking for a lost ball maybe???
  4. Defiantly after your money. If you have a few hours/days with nothing to do and want a laugh, go here and read some of these. http://www.419eater.com/html/hall_of_shame.htm Edit: I should have read all past posts as it seems 419 has been linked. Sorry.
  5. More caches hidden Chingford / Walthamstow way I assume? I never did find that one hidden near the dog do bin! You suprise me with your experience. It was 'stuck' under the bin. I say was, as the bin has now been removed.
  6. Thanks to all for your replies. Yes it was GeocacheUK. Shame that it has gone.Ah well, I will have to go for the GSAK way.
  7. Hello I am back yet again. Now that I am retired I must get out more on non model flying days. Things have changed it seems. I have caches loaded onto my old Tomtom but I want to update them. In the past I used I think it was a GB cache site to download all my unfound caches. I have just tried to search for such sites but alas can't fine it. So any links to where I can download my unfound caches to either Tomtoms or other GPS devices? Thanking you in eager anticipation.
  8. It was logged as yesterday. 1st July. The cache has been archived over a month???? Also it was a micro (tic tac case) so no way could they have placed a TB in it I think someone is cheating... If they were dipping a "personal TB" through your cache, simply to record the fact that they'd visited it at sometime when it was active, then it wouldn't make any difference what size the cache was. Some cachers like to do this just to have a record of their geocaching mileage. (Admittedly, if this was the case, it would have made things clearer if they'd back-dated the dip to the actual date they were at your cache originally.) Did they actually log the cache as being "found" yesterday, or just dip a TB in and out of it using a "note" log? MrsB Checking back it seems they logged the 'as found' back in 07. I just cannot see the point in this 'dipping'. But why 'dip' it into all the caches of mine that that they did? I think this game is getting a bit silly now. Are people making up their own rules of how to play?

  10. I have some archived caches. I noticed that someone has 'Log TB' on some of them. So what is this, have I missed something?
  11. I once rescued an adder. There was this old dear that was trying to beat it up with a small plastic spade. It was only a very young one. I stopped her and told her to go get a bucket. She did but it was filled with water. (I think she thought I wanted to drown it.) I tipped out the water and manged to get it into the bucket. After showing it around to interested partys, I took it onto the grass area of the Sea wall. (Where I have seen others) and released it after taking some photos. For a thank you for saving it, it tried to strike at me.
  12. I have already been down that road with an Ipaq and an external blue tooth GPS, with MM loaded. I found that in sunlight it was hard to see the screen. Also at times it took ages to get it set up whilst on the move. Sometimes I found it easyer to use the bulky Tomtom that I had the caches loaded on. But it always came back to old faithful Yellow Etrex. It just seems that the technology has improved in the last few years.
  13. I should have added that I have a large selection of Memory maps. I have just been looking at the Oregon and Coloraldo looks a nice bit of kit. So now I have to look for a bargain..
  14. I am trying to make a comeback into the hobby. Being retired it will give me something to do when it is non model flying days. (Like this week) I still have my faithfull Etrex (Yellow) and a Tomtom. But I would like to get another bit of kit that I can load OS maps onto and add the waypoints as well. Not being in touch with what is out there at the moment. I wonder if anyone could recomend a unit that would do this. Garmin portable of course.
  15. G6ITD. I have just had a scan through 2 and 70. Nothing. Dead as the proverble Dodo. I and others were very active on 70 whilst working in central london via GB3LW. (That was known as the cab drivers net) Since I retired it has died, as I have found with most frequencys. I blame computers and forums such as this.
  16. This is not a new problem. I have not posted for some time but I do browse the posts from time to time. I am not as active as in the past. Most of my caches have been 'muggled', vandalised. call it what you will. As I replaced them, they again were 'muggled' so I had no option but to archive them. I realised that it was no accident as the contents were gone, but the containers were still left in their hiding place. Publicity is I am afraid bad for the hobby. It has in my opinion given a new game to the few that like to spoil things for others. So they visit this site and register. They buy an Etrex or whatever. Do a few caches now and again log them but muggle a few more. It would be pointless to make the caches 'prenium' as they could also pay up for this option. They would find and log, a few and again collect the contents of a lot more. We must just hope that they get bored in time with their game. As for 'staking out' caches. well the culprits could be bigger than you.
  17. FTFers should get a life. (Now going back into my hidey hole) Who double posted for me?

  19. I want one of those. But back to how to remove 'Muggles'. Muggle: "What are you doing?" Me: "I am searching for a UFO that landed here, and I think you are standing on it". Muggle disapears over the horizon in a cloud of dust.
  20. And if they didn't give permission, what else have they ever done for us From the 'Anglo Saxon Cronicle' The Laud Cronicle. Year 418. "In this year the Romans collected all the treasures which were in Britain and hid some in the earth so that no one afterwards could find them, and some they took with them into Gaul" Thats what they did for us, and there is still plenty to be found. Nothing to do with this thread but I thought I would make it a bit light hearted as it seems to begining to heat up a bit.
  21. I hate nettles. I hate biteing bugs. I hate stinging insects. I hate thick undergrowth. I hate perspireing freely. I LOVE GEOCACHING IN WINTER. Thats why you may noticed that I have come out of summer hibernation.
  22. Breath strip containers with magnets attached (Super glued magnetic strips from old fridges very good). TicTac boxes, but no good in exposed sites but OK if hidden in other weatherproof locations. I LOVE MICROS
  23. Still down it seems. I want to upload latest 'caches not found' to my Tom tom. 'BAH'
  24. SP. Will there be proper baskets, and will the course be like the one that I played last week at the Colchester Uni? Like you I got interested by seeing that Robbie Coltrane prog. I have a set of disks but at the moment can't throw then like the youngster do.
