  1. Hello, I used to get a text message to my phone when a new cache was released in my area. It hasn't been working lately and I can't find where to set that up anymore. Did they get rid of that option? Thank you.
  2. Is there a way to exclude a particular GeoCacher by name when creating a pocket query? Lets just say that there may or may not be a cacher in the area that feels like they have to hide a pill bottle cache every 528 feet down every street in town just because they can.
  3. My biggest pet peeve is when a cacher feels like they have to hide a pill bottle cache every 528 feet down every street in town just because they can.
  4. Great! Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it.....
  5. Hello all, I'm wondering how to guarantee that a spot is available to hide a cache before spending the time setting it up and hiding it only to find there's a multi-cache stage or a puzzle in that area. I scouted an are that no cache shows up on the map, found a great spot, but the hide is going to be a little elaborate and going to need some set up time. I contacted the reviewer, gave the exact coordinates and asked if it was open. He/she said "create a cache page and submit it for review". I did that, and wrote this note for the reviewer - "I'm looking to hide a cache in this spot, but want to make sure it is open before I do. There is nothing hidden so PLEASE don't release this if you deem the location ok. Thank you." He/she disabled the page and wrote "Please don't enable your cache when it is not in place." Any advice?
  6. We were on vacation in Santa Fe, New Mexico (from Wisconsin) a few moths ago and on our way up to Taos we pulled off to look at a roadside historic site. I simply said to my wife "I'm assuming there's a GeoCache here somewhere". I stood back and looked for possible hiding spots and said "I bet it's right there". We were 10 feet from it. No GPS, no Cell Phone...... I refer to it as blind GeoCaching!
  7. I have 2 things that bother me. 1. When cachers feel the need to hide a film container / pill bottle every 528 feet on every street in town. Oh, let me guess.....this one is hidden on the back of that speed limit sign.....AGAIN! No creativity at all. 2. When you hike a half a mile into some deep woods where you could hide a 30 gallon trash can and all that's there is yet another film container / pill bottle. Again.....No creativity at all.
  8. AWESOME!! Thanks. I didn't know they were called "proxies", that's why I couldn't find anything on it.
  9. How do you feel about sending out a nicely done laminated card with a picture of your TB or GeoCoin with all the info on it instead of the actual TB or Coin? The other day I picked up a trackable GeoCoin in a cache, but instead of the actual coin it was a laminated card with the picture of the coin and all the info on it for tracking it, and it's goal / mission. I personally had no problem with it because I have a dozen or so trackables out in the wild that I haven't heard from for about a year, as I'm sure most of you do. It's frustrating! Just wondering if this is an acceptable practice by the geocaching community. Cant wait to hear what you all have to say.... Thanks, Douce Us 5
  10. Hi all, I have been struggling ever since I can no longer use Cache Register to load queries onto my DeLorme PN-40. I've read on here how to copy the wpts.gpx and the .gpx files onto my card and get them into my PN-40. For the most part it seems to work, BUT I'm not getting all of the caches into my PN-40 that show up on the map when I view that query on the Geocaching website. Any ideas what's going on?
  11. The new maps take FOREVER to render, if they fully render at all. I get grey blocks over some areas of the map, and when I zoom in they often never render at all. Please fix. That is all.
  12. The new maps take FOREVER to render. I get grey blocks over some areas of the map, and when I zoom in sometimes they never render at all. HATE IT!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr......................
  13. Is there a way to view just one specific pocket querie as a map without seeing all of the other caches that aren't in that pocket querie? When I view a pocket querie I see all the other caches around it. The ones I'm looking at have a lightning bolt above it, but I want to see it without all the other clutter around them.
  14. So I was out caching and my batteries died while I had it on. Replaced the batteries, turned it back on and now when I hit the page button or the tack (my current location) button it completely locks up on me. Any suggestions?
  15. Wanted something super cool looking so I just created it using PhotoShop. It looks better if you click on it and see it full size.
  16. Wow.....what a jackwagon!!! You should find it again and take a picture of the log sheet and post it.
  17. Wow....that seems like A LOT of extra work! Can't you just take a little notepad and write down the GC cache code and any little extra notes that you may want to remember when you're logging your find? Yes I do. This way I can remember what to write when I goto log it on geocaching.com Here is an example of what I am talking about: http://www.amazon.com/Geocaching-Log-Book-Michael-Sajdak/dp/1438252145/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I9PY9DQLGVLA0&colid=12UC5PB9MS8OD I am looking for the sheets in .pdf, word, excel, etc.
  18. I always tell them I'm GeoCaching, and explain what it is. Trying to come up with a lie seems more suspicious
  19. Every time I try to load a picture for me TB it locks up my computer. Anybody else having this issue?
  20. About a year ago I made the best investment of my life and bought a "DeLORME PN-40" and have used that to find my last 650 caches or so and LOVE IT! It's comparable to the "Garmin 60CSx" (which is the GeoCachers preferred handheld GPS).....but better! It's has everything the 60CSx has and more. I bought mine on sale at REI for $250 and it's well worth the money!!!! Buy it....you wont regret it AT ALL!
  21. I cache all winter long.....pull a query that is for winter friendly caches, put my snowshoes in the care and head out. I't my favorite time of year to cache. There's no bugs, no poisonous plants, and the parks are pretty empty.
  22. Welcome to the sport........I think a good self-imposed limit is 100 finds. I didn't hide my first cache until I had 130. I think it's good to fully understand what makes a good hide before placing your first. When a new cache is released, and if I don't recognize the cachers name, I look to see how many finds they have. If it's less than 50 I generally wont attempt a FTF run because I've already looked for caches that weren't even hidden yet, or the coordinates are way off, or when I get there it's a stupid pringles can with black electricians tape as camo shoved in the crotch of a tree. Very poor quality caches is my point. I would recommend waiting until you've been exposed to what makes a good hide and container.
  23. I don't know about claiming it as a find but it is SUPER annoying!!!! I just went on a FTF run the other day, where the cache wasn't placed yet. That's the third time that's happened to me. I even looked at the cache owners profile and saw that they've been members for over a year, with 25 finds. Makes me think all of the talk about not being able to hide a cache until you have at least 100 finds is a good idea. I just looked at the cache that started all of this.......2 finds and they think they know enough to hide a cache?!?! And they changed the coordinates like 10 times? Thats ridiculous !! Again there should be some kind of set amount of finds before a cacher is able to hide one.
  24. Moderately athletic 45 year old male.
