  1. I LOVE the TNLNSL! (Sniffed Log) I would buy one for MaceyBB and she would wear it proudly!!! Suz
  2. Received mine today! Will begin distributing in Alabama and the Southeast ASAP! Thank You! They are really cool!
  3. ME TOOO! By far, this is the ABSOLUTE BEST thread I have read in the two years I've been lurking in the forums! I was sooooooo dissappointed when it was closed after just a few hours! I think one of the major brand GPSr's or the beacon locator companies, etc...(you get the idea)...should take this couple's story, pay them lots of money and make a MAJOR ad campaign out of it! "It's 6am in the morning...Do YOU know where YOUR husband is???" Haaa haaaa!
  4. Thanks THC! I checked it out! That's Great! Suz
  5. I searched (yay! Search is back up!) for this and can't find anything...a few TB's I have moved had these cool cards printed up, where you can fill in your state, so the next person can see where the TB has been and thus, might need to go next. I'm guessing someone designed the cards in MS Word or Excel format. Does anyone have something like this to share or a link to it? Thanks! Suz
  6. GOT THEM ALL! Over 600! Thank you all VERY MUCH!!! I have found 4 benchmarks, just because they were close to a cache and were posted on the cache page. I think Benchmark hunting is going to be great fun (new addiction?!--ha-ha!) Thanks again everyone! Suz
  7. Update! Well, I kept fooling with this...I CAN'T stand to not figure something so simple like this out! I tried every combination...dragging and dropping zipped and unzipped onto the Bmgpx icon (both the opened one and the original one!). Somehow, (I almost jumped out of my seat when it finally worked!) it did not give me the "no" symbol and actually worked! It spit out a GSAK file for me. Next, I clicked my GSAK file and THEN my bubble was burst when I went through all GSAK steps to have it return 0 (zero) files. This is for Mobile County, Alabama. I know they are there!!! The original .dat file is 442KB and the spit out GSAK file is only 1KB...??? I am clueless... I appreciate everyones help. I have a friend who lives on Dauphin Island...there are few caches there but LOTS of benchmarks! Thanks! Suz
  8. Hi Phayzer! Thanks for your reply! I thought I had tried dragging and dropping at the original locations too, but just tried it again now. Same thing...when I drag the .dat file over to Bmgpx, it gives me the "no" symbol (circle with a slash through it). I used spinner a long time ago, and had the shortcut on my desktop. I used to drag and drop there. It would add the finished file to the folder I had originally dragged from...so, that is why I tried Bmgpx on the desktop this time. For the life of me, I can't imagine what on earth I am doing wrong. I have a 2 month new computer! No glitches that I am aware of...I'm sure it is "operator error"...haa haa! I just don't know what! Thanks again for trying to help me! Happy Hunting!
  9. I do admit this is my first attempt, although I have tried 4-5 times. I followed the directions from 3 different threads. I downloaded BMGPX and have it on my desktop. And I followed the directions to get county Benchmarks. The zipped file downloaded. I opened it and dragged it and dropped it on top of BMGPX and nothing happened. I tried several times, I re-downloaded the county, I re-downloaed BMGPX. I can't figure out what I am doing incorrectly. I use GSAK and would love to get these benchmark descriptions in my PDA! I did see something on the NGS page about the datasheets changing January 1, 2006, yet the choices for downloading the counties as described, are still there. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Thanks!
  10. Me too! PDA, Digital Cameras, I'm on my 3rd (with a big screen!), MP3 player, XM Radio screen, AND GPSr's! They have definetly saved mine and two of my friend's GPSr screens...one friend had used a DEET based insect repellent and got it on her screen protector...and the other friend, dropped his two week brand new Garmin 60CS on a rock...boogered up the screen protector, but the original screen was just fine. Well worth the 12 pack at the office store in my opinion! We just get a 12 pack of PDA protectors and cut them to fit. I've used Fellows Write Right Screen Protectors and also their "Brain Wash" wet and dry cleaning cloths. Keep an eye on Big Lots type close out stores or the bargain bins at the office store for old PDA models sized screen protectors and get them cheap!
  11. Thanks for posting the picture! The Hurricaches look great! We are still thinking of everyone! SuzyQhoo from Alabama
  12. Very funny TAR! Can I post a KID PEEVE for the Events too? I'll bet MaceyBB is more well behaved than most children under the age of 10 these days! Haa haa! She did go to Puppy Kindergarten and Obedience School and graduate after all! In all seriousness, my English Bulldog, MaceyBB, caches with my friends and me when the weather is cool enough. She enjoys both urban and rural caching. Heck, she just enjoys going! Whenever she sees the caching gear and her harness come out she goes nuts! I have used a 4 foot, rugged leash for 5 years with no problems. Macey's instructors were not fond of the leashes that let out and retract (me either). I also use a harness on her when caching instead of a regular collar...she can't slip out of the harness. She also has a doggie backpack, but she's only used it once. Macey has never had any cuts on her pads. Really her only problem was one day when we first started caching, we went to a local state park and I picked off about 15 ticks...this with her on Frontline Plus! I do keep doggie first aid supplies in the car though...and as someone posted earlier, PLENTY of water and those collapsible bowls...she drinks alot and sloshes it everywhere! She has logged over 100 finds! Haa haa! Happy Caching to you and yours! SuzyQhoo & MaceyBB
  13. Ooooo, yikes! Yeah, we don't want any part of a drug war, especially as tourists! Thanks! We were already leaning to Del Rio...had read better bargains are to be found there! Or we might skip the Mexico thing alltogether and head for the little towns surrounding Fredericksburg. There seems to be so much to choose from, our path is changing daily...we want to squeeze in as much as possible (and as many caches along the way) during our short time there! Thanks again!
  14. We have two caches very similar to what you are describing here in the 'Ham and they were both a GREAT challenge to find! One is a film can and the other one is a piece of maybe 3/4" or smaller pvc tubing with a bison tube within that and camoflauged to the surroundings. Even with using the hints, they still took a while to find! The film can was in a park and the bison tube in a high traffic area field, so both times we cachers looked like surveyors! Neither of these caches I would consider buried (as the tops of them are exposed if you look down on them) and if the ground is soft enough...like after a good rain...you really don't have to dig to install it...just push! Hope this helps! Good luck! Happy Caching!
  15. Thanks CherokeeCacher! I'll try to post an inquiry on those sights tonight or this weekend! We are ticking off the days until our trip! Chewbacca, I haven't done any river caches here, well except one, that we were able to access by land and then wade across! I have seen several listed though that sound like fun. Good luck in placing your first! Suz
  16. Hello! We will be visiting Texas soon and will be driving from Corpus Christi to San Antonio. We will leave CC Friday morning and plan to arrive in San Antonio Monday afternoon/evening. Originally, (and we still may) we wanted to go to the TX/Mexico border in either Laredo or Del Rio and walk across a pedestrian footbridge just for a few hours of shopping. I find only 4 caches in the Laredo area....and on up to Uvalde seems to be barren of caches as well. I don't remember if I have looked at Del Rio yet. We are also interested in Kerrville and Fredericksburg (and maybe some of the surrounding ghost towns). Do any locals have any suggestions for routes? We do want to cache some each day while there. I know Corpus Christi has alot, as does San Antonio...and we will be staying in San Antonio the following Tues-Friday so we can hit those caches then. Oh, and we like the "off the beaten path" places to visit...I was looking forward to the Oldest Rexall Drug Store in Uvalde, if it stays on our route! Any "must see" places will also be appreciated! Thanks for any opionions! SuzyQhoo in Alabama
  17. Yeah, I have a GEO sticker on my vehicle... My mom and I were exiting my vehicle to go to lunch and a lady pulled into the parking spot next to us and smiled and waved...I returned the gesture, having no idea who she was. She jumped out and said are you a geocacher? She was from a different part of the state, in town for business. We told each other our "cacher" names and immediately knew one another from the logs. I thought it was kinda cool!
  18. Hey Everyone! Just saw that as of today 99 people have viewed this post and thought I would give everyone an update. I tried again to get it to work just by "plug N' play". No cigar. So, I was able to email Palm about their cord and they said it is exclusive to their devices and they suggested I not try it with any others or it might ruin (my GPSr) it. So, $25 converter at Wally World, here I come! Again, thanks for the advice and links though! Suz
  19. Hey, Thanks Geospyder! I've searched everyway I know how! By long/lat from my streetatlas, by looking on GC.com's maps and I emailed someone from Laredo, TX, who does not think there are any. BUT, we are still excited to be traveling to TX and the day trip to Nuevo Laredo! Muchos Gracias por la links! Suz
  20. A friend and I will be traveling around Texas later this year. We plan to visit Laredo, TX and cross the pedestrian footbridge into Mexico. I was wondering if there are any nearby caches in Mexico, I think it is Nuevo Laredo. I am having trouble finding them on the GC.com website...it pulls up all of the caches in Mexico. I tried entering the coordinates of Laredo, Texas, but I only received 13 nearby caches in Texas. Thanks for any help! Happy Caching! Suz
  21. Great! Thanks for all the leads! I will try to plug it in again and see if I can get it going without a driver...it has been many months since I tried. And if not, I'll try the driver links suggested and the other forum link! I appreciate all the help! Suz
  22. Hmmmm...so I am a self-admitted cheapskate. In amongst all my computer cords from years past, I found a little serial to USB converter. It was to be used to connect a Palm m500 PDA hotsync cradle to a computer. So my question is, instead of me having to shell out more dough, does anyone know where I can download a driver somewhere so I can use it to connect my Garmin Legend to my laptop? I found a serial to USB converter at Wally World, but it's $25 bucks! Geez, I'm a cheapskate...that's gas money!!! I tried to just plug in the Palm serial/USB cord and it is not Plug N' Play. Thanks for any help! Suz
  23. Thank you to everyone who has replied! I have several things to try and I think I'm on the right path to solving my problem! I'll post again if the problem continues. Happy Caching!
  24. Hi! Has anyone had any problems using Cachemate version 4.0.3? I have a new, one week old Palm E2 and something is causing it to crash (Fatal Errors requiring a Hard Reset) at random times while using different programs (not necessarily while using cachemate). The Fatal Errors are so severe that I have to reload each third party software item individually as it will not fully re-syncronize. The only things I can think of that are new are one game and cachemate. I'm also trying to find info on the game. Thanks for any info! Suz
  25. Well, I don't call the authorities and report every person who exceeds the speed limit or fails to use their turn signal (and there are many on my work commute!) I agree with both the "live and let live" post, the "do what you feel is right" posts (which you already did). Also, please continue to geocache. Geocaching will take you to interesting and fun places that you never knew existed. Just my humble opinion. SQ
