  1. Very funny! thanks for the link. (I like the astro-caching idea)
  2. ooh, that makes sense now, I didn't know what a "GPSaxophone" was. I thought maybe he was talking about a forum or topic or something. Since I don't spend much time on the forums, I don't know very many of the people on here. Though considering you have over 10,000 posts that search would have taken a while! But I do want to thank you for the info, I followed your directions and got my map working. So thank you for taking the time to spell it out! now I just need to add more little red dots to it. Thanks again, mcon1
  3. Renegade Knight, that link is exactly what I was looking for!! Thank you! And thank you to everyone else who replyed. I have been playing around with the different ideas, trying to see what works the best. And its good to know the different ways to go about it. Thanks again, mcon1
  4. a couple months ago i remember seeing a thread where people were posting a map of the US that showed all of the caches they found. Now that I recently became a paying member, I wanted to try to do that for myself, though I have ran several searches but have not been able to find that thread. could someone please point me in the right direction, or remind me how you can do that? thank you! mcon1
  5. people appreciate being able to log a find. I found this especially true when they have already found all of the local caches. I'm thinking if I make a 3-4 stage multi, I'm just going to make all of the steps its own cache. That way they can try to get to the goal of finding the last cache, but they will also be able to log the hard work they went through to get to it. Also, that way instead of taking up a good "possible cache location" with a marker. I'll have a cache there As for me searching for them, for an easy multi I don't mind either way, but its more fun for me if I can log 3-4 founds for finding all stages of a tough multi. hope that helps! mcon1
  6. ok I got some more information on it. The cache is called something simular to "How Deep is the Mississippi" but I ran a search for "Deep" and a separate one for "Mississippi" and neither of them found the cache that was described on the notecard. I'll try emailing some people who may have some more information. I just thought I would post an update. That would be awesome if it went to "secret cache"
  7. I was just about to post a new topic about this. I'm glad other people agree that this is a good idea! It would be easy to impliment, just change: Logged Visits (13 total. Visit the Gallery) to Logged Visits (8 finds, 4 notes, 1 DNF = 13 total. Visit the Gallery) or something like that. thanks for considering it! mcon1 Tulsa, OK
  8. I also wish there was a way to rate a cache. in the meantime I've been putting my "recommended caches" in my profile. Cachers in my location will probabally look at it more than others. so hopefully it will give them some good information on the good caches in the area. (as well as ones to look for while they are traveling). I spell out what it is that I like about the cache, and if it doesn't interest them, they can move on. since some are good because of scenery, location, difficulty, or just uniqueness.
  9. I like to hear about any caches that they liked, or any stories they have. I did this with my profile (mainly for my own use, to store my personal log). But maybe another local cacher or someone visiting OK will find it helpful. I also compiled a list of all the local caches that have PI or thorns near them.
  10. In a cache, I found a notecard that showed partial coordinates to a secret cache north of Dallas (on 75/69). I put the coordinates in my gps and found that without the rest of the numbers, it covers a 1 mile by 200 foot rectangle. it is supposed to be a micro. The card mentioned other 'clues' and I was wondering if anyone knew more about it? or how I could get more clues? actually my main question is, how can I find the "cache page" for this cache. the notecard didn't say who hid it, or the name of the cache. It could be a hoax, but I thought I would check anyways. btw I left that notecard in u.x.o. in Dallas in case someone wants to see what I'm talking about.
  11. I totally agree with you on the PI! especially when there are tons of good hiding spots in the area that have no PI. in my user-page I am making a list of caches that I found which are near PI and thorns (as a heads up to other local cachers, if they happen to read it) As for posting cache number x out of y today. I did something like that a couple weekends ago, though I made it more like a story, from one cache to the other. (I put links in my logs for people to click on the link to read the next cache's story) The cache owners told me they liked my notes, so I think as long as you are descriptive about how fun/frustrating/etc it was to look for their cache, they won't mind you saying X out of Y today. (I even posted all of my DNF's within the "story"). So.. after all of that, I wanted to say the thing that I hate is when a cache is not in an interesting spot but just in the thickest thornbush or PI plant they can find in some random forest area.
  12. I was looking for a virtual cache in a graveyard, http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...&decrypt=y&log= it was pretty empty of visitors, but the one person that I saw there was a man that I knew! I don't know him very well, but it was unexpected to see someone I knew there.
  13. from my experience, no the star doesn't show the location! It can be off by several hundered feet. It will get you in the general area though. and if its a standard cache, it might help you find it. I tried to use the star to find 2 micros. (my first 2 caches) Not a good idea
  14. My first cache was, of course, the one across the street from my house. And it happened to be a micro. With no GPS device and just a general area of where it was, I went off to find my first cache wondering why I had never noticed it there before. $150 (for a GPS), 2 hints from the cache owner and 3 trys later, I finally found it! It turned out to be one of the hardest micros in the area that had been stumping even experienced geocachers. From my experiences here is what I do now: 1. Plan on visiting 10-20 caches in a particular area. 2. Just do a "drive by" the ones that look like they need special equipment (mosquito nets, wading boots, climbing gear, napalm) 3. Search for each one for only a certain amount of time, then move on if not found. (I usually give myself between 15 and 30 minutes depending upon the situation) 4. Come back the next day prepared to tackle the ones that gave you trouble. Finally a general searching tip: search the 10-20ft area around ground 0. then walk away (usually into a clearing), find ground 0 again and search again. On difficult caches (or areas that I don't like exploring too much because of PI, etc) I can do this up to 8 times just to be sure I'm searching the right spot. I hope that helps. good luck! mcon1
  15. What a great idea. I am going to do this too. I have a couple questions: 1. Will it appear in each cache's "Bug History"? 2. is it better to "drop it off" and then "pick it up" or just "drop it off" in each cache? thank you! mcon1
  16. Sorry it took so long to respond. I had to confirm the dates. we are planning on going to Houston June 4th - 7th. So I'll probabally drop it off June 5th. Thanks! mcon1
  17. Your B&B is perfect Snoogans, thats very close to where I'll be staying in Houston! Thanks for the info. I just hope someone going to Austin will be able to pick it up. And after I posted this topic, I realized it would have been better in the region forum, but I figured I'd wait a while before posting it there, to avoid a duplicate post. Thanks! mcon1
  18. I found a cool TB that is trying to make its way to Austin Texas (and have its picture taken). In a couple weeks I'll be going to Houston, and was wondering if theres a good place I can drop it off either in Dallas or Houston, for someone to take it the rest of the way? (about 2 hours drive I believe) I don't want to just drop it off at some random geocache.. or if you could tell me a way to search for a TB Hotel on the Geocache website that would be even better! thanks. mcon1
  19. its interesting you should say that. Reading about a game like that is how I heard about Geocache (a week ago) It is definatly a cool idea, and it sounds like it works in Japan since it is such a small area (compared to the US or even large states) I would love if something like this came to America! (in the meantime I'm going to enjoy Geocaching) Here is the slashdot article: http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=0...tid=186&tid=193 Thanks, mcon1
