  1. I found a coin in a cache yesterday. The coin is in a plastic pouch with "Retrieve your activation code at www.geocoinclub.com/code.php" Also has "Write the activation code below:" The coin was found in a baggie dedicated for trackables, but on the pouch is written "SWAG" There are no other codes or numbers on the coin. the coin has on one side a picture of an angel holding the earth with the caption "Protected by Angels" on top. The reverse side has 9 angels surrounding the earth and "©AngelStar" I have searched everywhere as what to do with this coin. geocoinclub does not have this coin listed as one of its geocoins. Is this just a custom coin someone placed as swag and used an old geocoin pouch to keep it in? Is it an unactivated geocoin left for the finder? tia TomToad
  2. Two guys are in the forest looking for a cache. The first guy says, "Did you see that?" "No," the second guy says. "Well, a bald eagle just flew overhead," the first guy says. "Oh," says the second guy. A couple of minutes later, The first guy says, "Did you see that?" "See what?" the second guy asks. "Are you blind? There was a big, black bear walking on that hill, over there." "Oh." A few minutes later the first guy says: "Did you see that?" By now, the second guy is getting aggravated, so he says, "Yes, I did!" And the first guy says: "Then why did you step in it?"
  3. I have a touch also. Unfortunately, the only way to browse offline on the touch using the official app is to download the cache info one at a time. This is suppose to be changed in a future version. Right now, what I do is import PQs into GSAK and then export as html. Then use Airsharing to transfer to the ipod. When you tap on the file, it will open up in Safari. Works great.
  4. At least it didn't get blown up this time. I think this is the way suspicious packages should be treated. Check to see if it's an explosive, get in contact with possible witnesses, don't just assume it's a bomb.
  5. You could just wait for a cache that no one can find, then go and find it. There is a cache about 10 miles from where I live. When I saw the next day after it was published that no one had logged a find on it, I thought it might be an opportunity for a FTF. Went and searched for like an hour. I saw footprints around and was sure someone had beaten me to the FTF, but I didn't want to give up just in case. Eventually I decided that I needed to clear my brain and would search out other caches for a while. After finding a couple of other caches in the area, I found a StarBucks and logged onto the Geocaching site. I expected to see a FTF logged on the one cache already, but to my surprise, there still wasn't one. I went back to the site and searched some more. Searched for about another 10 minutes before that geosense kicked in and had my hand on the cache within seconds. I half expected there to be several names logged on the log sheet, but to my surprise, it was empty. I was the FTF. My First, and so far only, FTF. Now over a month later, and I'm still the only person to find that cache. Would that be an OTF?
  6. I want to create a bookmark list with caches by a certain hider. A search brings up 22 caches. Instead of clicking on each page, then clicking add bookmark, then choosing the bookmark catagory and clicking Create bookmark, then page back three times then go on to the next cache... Is there a way to select all of them and add them all at once, or at least a full page from the search results?
  7. Of course it exists in only one place in the world. It's kind of difficult for a location to exists two places simultaneously. [] Anyway, this is the Tehachapi Loop in California. Edit: To add smiley
  8. I have the DeLorme PN-20. I believe there is more than one bundle, but the one I got was this. http://shop.delorme.com/OA_HTML/DELibeCCtd...p;section=10106 It comes with pre-cut maps, and the Orlando region has been very thorough. You can also add more roads with the included software, if there is a small road or access way that is missing. It also comes with a coupon for $100 in additional maps, which can be additional basemaps, aerial photos, satellite photos, topography maps, etc... For $30 a year, you can get an unlimited subscription to all the maps you want. The street mapping is pretty decent. Not as good as a GPS dedicated for that purpose, but so far, I only had it twice send me in a not so optimal path. Both times it was to a park area which did not have a clearly defined entrance. The DeLorme got me to the park, but only to discover that I'm at a gated utility entrance, instead of the main entrance. Otherwise, it has been great at providing me with a path. Also, it can take up to 2 minutes before deciding on a route, not good if you need to know how to get from point A to point B NOW! The DeLorme will sound a beep when you are about a block away from the street and again when you are almost at the turn. It is a little quiet so you might miss the sound in background noise. I prefer to just read off the next street I need to turn and about how far away it is, then look for the street when I'm in the area. Also I leave it on the compass screen, the compass arrow will actually follow the road as you are driving, so if it points forward, you know you are on the right road. Redrawing the map is pretty slow, especially when you are using satellite or aerial maps. If you don't need those and can get by with just the street maps, they can be shut off and back on from the menu. Also, set the GPS to show North always up. It saves on the redraw when you are turning in circles. Delorme has solved this problem partly by updating the arrow as you move, then redrawing the map when the arrow gets to the edge, instead of leaving the arrow centered and moving the entire map each frame. This can be a little annoying when you are trying to get somewhere just on the edge of the map. As for battery life, I can leave at 8am to do some caching, quit at 6pm, and still have at least 1/4 power left on my batteries. I've never actually tested how long the batteries actually last, but Delorme's report of 14 hours seems about right. Much more than 6 hours as some claim. There is an option in the menu for setting the type of battery you are using, and could shorten the life if it is set wrong. That's possibly why some people are getting short battery life on theirs. You should still bring extra batteries no matter which GPS you buy. You never know if you have bought good or bad batteries. Overall, I think the Delorme is a good value for $200, considering all you get with it. I don't have experience with Garmin, so I don't know how it compares with them, but when I went to buy a new GPS, the most comparable Garmin I could find would've cost me another $50 and I'd still need to buy the base maps, which came free with the Delorme.
  9. I have a DeLorme PN-20 as well. I'm still learning to use it's features, though. first suggestion, on the DeLorme, Click MENU/Device Setup/System and make sure the battery type is set to the type of batteries you use. Now to answer your questions. 1. You can get Pocket queries in .gpx format by unchecking the send as .zip option at the bottom of the page. 2. It might be best to focus on one region at a time. If you regularly go to several regions, then you might consider buying extra SD cards and creating a library of different regions. 3. The USGS HiRes City Imagery files are very detailed, but only cover major cities and such. I'm thinking about the $30 map library subscription they have. http://shop.delorme.com/OA_HTML/DELibeCCtp...p?section=10462 Then I can download and try out many different formats and choose the best one for me.
  10. how about here, a big 'o Pay button on the upper right hand corner. $10. Even can use PayPal. Jim www.smittyware.com wasn't working last night. I guess it was just server problems. I managed to download the program from tucows. Thanks for the info anyways. I might've not tried again otherwise.
  11. Thanks for the tutorial. Only problem is that I tried downloading and installing CacheMate, but the unregistered version will only show 10 caches and the registration site appears not to exist anymore.
  12. I just recently upgraded to premium. I tried out the pocket query to find recently placed caches. Found one that was not found yet and got my first FTF. While I was in the area, I checked out some of the other hides in the area. Found some of the best hides so far. If I hadn't upgraded, I wouldn't have the pocket query. WIthout the pocket query, I wouldn't have found the FTF. WIthout the FTF, I wouldn't have bothered traveling the distance to the location. Without traveling to the location, I wouldn't have found all the great caches in the area. I'd say I've gotten my $30 worth already.
