  1. Yeah.... and it's fairly simple. "Mom, Dad..... I want a Premium membership for my birthday present." Now they know exactly what to get you each year, and it's not all that money. As a side note..... being a kid, and lack of money, don't necessarily go hand in hand. Scraping up $30 may be hard to do when one is on a tight budget. Go easy on this person, you don't know what financial situation the whole family may be in. $30 to someone unemployed is a lot of groceries, or a tank of gas.
  2. The two people that I cache with have used cell phones, when we have coverage, simply to see where one of the group is if we get separated 'cause one is farther ahead of the other two. Normally we aren't separated by more than 100 yards or so.
  3. This brings up the question.... How many cache owners really go out to their caches and check the logs? Granted some maintenance is probably needed every so often, especially if the log book is full or some other weather related damage, but I really wonder how often owners visit their own caches, certainly not weekly and probably not even monthly. Am I wrong?
  4. I just thought of another option which is wait until I get the premium membership and then backdate the find. Then if the CO says anything about the backdate, explain the situation to them. Now I do know that the premium I was with mentioned all 3 of us in her log so there shouldn't be any problem backdating a find.
  5. Thanks for the info and help. This time I'll do that, and next time I"ll upgrade.
  6. To me it's a reason to get out and exercise. You can go for walks, but if there is only the "goal" of walking for 30 minutes, or once around the block, it gets boring. Caching gets me to walking farther, "There's another cache just 1/4 mile away.... go get it" and at the same time I can plan trips around the area to explore new areas.
  7. I went on a trip today with a premium member and they chose the caches to find. So we find them and have a good time. The "problem" is that now I can't log the find as I am not a premium member. Any solution other than upgrading to a premium membership?
  8. IMHO... this is the approach I would take and if I found the cache before the other party did I would move away a bit and say that I had found it, then wait for them to find it. I figure they were searching before I got there so they should have the privilege of finding it and signing the log before me.
  9. Boy is this true. Two friends that got me interested in geocaching have found out that they have created a monster.
  10. As a note. I asked the same question earlier this week.

  12. I personally have a criteria that has to be met for me to log a DNF. 1) If my geo-sniffer gets to antsy and wants to move on before I make a find... That's not a DNF. That's a note that I was looking and Tobi had other ideas. One doesn't argue with a 100 pound dog. 2) If I get to a location and there are too many muggles around to make a safe find.... That's not a DNF. Again that's a note. 3) If I've searched and searched to the best of my ability..... now that's a DNF and a return trip is warranted. I had one of those within the past two weeks. The return trip was with another person and we were successful. On my previous trip I had walked by the cache twice but Tobi, the geo-sniffer, was getting too antsy to let me spend more time there. But those are the "rules/guidelines" that I go by. Others may have different guidelines.
  13. I cache with a small group, usually 1 or 2 other people, and the informal rules we use are: 1) If it's a cache that one of us has previously found, then that person is a JAFO. They may offer hints if asked or offer advice. 2) If the cache being sought hasn't been found previously by any of us, then we work as a group until we get real close to GZ. At GZ we're on our own and if one of us finds the cache they move off a bit and say that they've found it. Once all of us have found it on our own we then open the cache and sign the log. IMHO.... To me this is a hobby. To others it's all about numbers, and to others it's a competition. To each his own.
  14. When I first started using the map, I too thought it might have a problem BUT then I watched it load over a thousand caches. That's what was taking the time and making it slow.
  15. Although this solution isn't necessarily aimed at caching, it does work. I was having "problems" getting my step kids motivated to do things with me, errands, shopping, anything, so I decided to make unscheduled Starbucks stops. Once the step daughter found out that hanging with step-dad might mean a stop for a frap, or float, or shake.... she was more than ready to go. The stepson, on the other hand, has super glue on his butt and hands! He won't leave the video game unless the house is burning down around him.
  16. We both signed the log(s), I let her sign first as she found them and then I signed next. Normally she caches with someone else here, but that person was out of town so we decided to head out together. Anyway, with this insight I now know what to do. Thanks to all for the replies.
  17. Thanks for the quick reply and answer. Much appreciated.
  18. Today I revisited some caches I've been to BUT I had someone else with me and she hadn't found these caches. I let her find them, sign the log, and then move on. How do I log my revisit? As a note, or a find?
  19. This is the approach I've taken. At least it lets the owner know that someone is interested in finding their cache.
  20. My geo-sniffer just likes going for the rides and walks. He's more interested in sniffing all the new smells and marking trees than finding actual caches. Sometimes it's hard to argue with 112 lbs of canine when they want to head out on a bearing other than the one you want to follow.
