  1. I used to take my Vista on planes all the time and had to hold it up to the window to get a sat lock. A month ago I took my 60CSx on a couple of flights. On the first flight (Continental) I was told by one of the attendants that GPS devices were not allowed to be used during flight. So away it went. In reading through their magazine they call out GPSrs specifically can be used when the plane is above 10,000 feet, so I took it out again and got an aplology from the attendant. On both flights I was in the window seat and did not have any trouble maintaining a sat lock. For most of the flight the GPSr rested on the tray table (not up against the window).
  2. I went with the 60CSx not having the CS hard to say if it was worth the money or not. I don't often use the compas but do use the altimeter mostly to measure total elevation changes while out hiking. I don't often calibrate the altimeter as I'm not often looking for the current elevation just looking for the total change.
  3. Maybe a stupid question but does a GPS need an electronic compass in order to tell you that the cache is x feet this way?
  4. What I did in Gsak was to go to File ---> Export ---> Mapsource File. Then in Mapsource I could use that file and send waypoints to the GPS.
  5. Lots of threds on this but in short for now you will need to upload them from Gsak to Mapsource and then import them to your 60CSx from Mapsource. It only took me a few more seconds to do this. The most recent thread on this is here: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...=126427&hl=gsak
  6. Good Point any GPS will get you close enough to find any cache. For me my I did not go with the ique or another PDA was that the 60CSx looked more durable and as an hiker durability was a key factor. It also seems that the PDA does not have the SIRF chip yet, though maybe I'm wrong. For me with my Vista I have had quite a few caches I could not find and I would rather blame the heavy tree cover than myself. Im am happy with the Vista and happier with the 60csx and would probably happy with the Ique as well. I'm sure Garmin is also happy to have my $$$.
  7. As was mentioned in a previous post the only way I have found to delete Custom POIs on my 60CSx is to upload a new set of Customer POIs. Neo Geo. I too wonder where GeoidPS gets the basis for his comments as it seems clear to me that these POIs are on the card.
  8. I have not had experience with the Garmin Mexico map but in looking at it now it does not have many detailed road information. I did purchase the Mexico Atlas from mexicomaps.com. You can see their GPS products at the following URL: http://www.mexicomaps.com/index.lasso?ref=...FE348CE3A6FF087 As long as I stay on the main roads I can get turn by turn directions using this product. Their support was great and the level of map detail is good. What I have found is a few areas where the road is slightly off it seems the quality of the product could use some work but all in all Im happy with it.
  9. I had my 60CSx out today on some roads Mexico and about half way unto a very bumpy road I realized I lost the Mexico Map I had on the GPS. When we stopped I found that the Memory card had managed to slide slightly out of place. I will have to try to find something around the house to secure it for the next bumpy ride.
  10. For me this too is an easy answer. YES. My 60CSx does much better than my Vista did.
  11. I enjoyed my Vista and worked great for most geocaching but as a hiker the satelite locks were week when hiking in tree cover or deep canyons.
  12. This was the main reason I went from the Vista to the 60CSx. It could do ok in light tree cover in a flat area but in a canyon any tree cover at all I could not get a good fix.
  13. I got my 60CSx last week and have been impressed with it. It passed the hikining in a Redwood Canyon test where my Vista failed. It passed 2 tests taking it inside Walmart. It also tracks well inside my 3 story office building where my Vista would not. Lots of great comments in this forum. I loaded California from the city select map. The only issue I have had with my unit is at times it gets stuck on a road and if I walk off the road ot drive off into a lot the unit takes a few seconds sometimes as much as a minute to realize I was no longer on the road. I have seen some posts about wondering but not sure if any one else has seen getting stuck on the roads or if it's user error wich I certainly have made a few of.
  14. I went with the 60CSx from GPSdiscount.com and paid 540 including the auto nav kit. I hardly use the compase but as a hiker I like the altimiter. I can't say' its worth the extra $ but I had extra money and and I liked the altimiter.
  15. I just got my 60CSx and have tried to keep up to date on all of the forum posts on the unit which is not an easy task I must say. I have managed to upload waypoints using the workaround posted on the GSAK forum by exporting files from GSAK and uploading them through the trip/waypoint manager. When I do that the waypoint names which get uploaded are the waypoint codes such as (GXCCC). My question is using this or other workarounds its it possible to upload the cache name (or part of the name) instead of the waypoint code?
  16. Very good information. I was trying to decice if I should get the 60csx now I realy should decice if I should go with the Treo or the 60csx. They sound simmilar other than the price and does not sound the the Treo has a barometic altimiter. Any other comparrisons which can be made between the new x series and the treo?
  17. I bought the topo CD for my Vista C. My only complaint about the topo CD is that the map data is old. I'm in San Jose California and it shows US 101 on its old route which was changed more than 15 years ago. When I asked garmin about it they said the topo map is to provide topo details and if I wanted accurate street details I should by the city nav or metro. I think the topo CDs should at least keep the major interstates and US highways up to date. But maybe thats just me.
  18. Here is a response I received from Garmin when asking about compatibility of City Select and the new x models. Not that they explained why but nice to know about a ner version of City Nav. For streetnavigation the recommended is City Select which will be fully replaced byCity Navigator later this summer when the next version is released. But forright now either one will be fine.
  19. I have the Etrex Vista and use the Altimeter when I'm hiking to see the total ascent/decent of a hike. I have never used the compas. If your not hiking I would save the $50 or send it to me so I can buy the CSx
