  1. I've had the 66st for a little over a week now and have no complaints. Haven't run into any issues with it so far, but really haven't done too much caching with it either. Will be making a trip to New Hampshire in a few days and will be doing a bit of caching while site seeing. Have all my lists downloaded as well as Birds Eye sat maps so we'll see how it does. Have never used a 700, so can't compare them, but so far I am very happy with my purchase. Thank you all for the input.
  2. Thanks for the input. I ended up ordering a 66st last night. Hopefully have it in a few days and will give it a good test up in New Hampshire in a few weeks on vaca.
  3. Been out of the GPS game for a long time, so figure it is time to join the 21st century and purchase a new GPS. Been using a Delorme PN-60 forever now, had a PN-40 before that, so all this new GPS technology is new to me. Initially was leaning towards an Oregon or Montana but have decided against the Montana and thrown the 66s into the mix as it seems almost identical to the Oregon and seems to come recommended frequently on here. In a perfect world, with the features between both being very similar, and MSRP being exactly the same, I guess it would come down to preference between buttons and touchscreen. I can't seem to find a 66s for sale anywhere that is under MSRP, however, I can easily find a new 700 for around $110 under MSRP. I'm not against paying extra for a 66, but not interested in wasting money either. Plus, it seems people are having issues with the 66 crashing if you go off route. Just looking for yalls thoughts on these units. Is the 66 worth an extra $100 or should I just save my money and pick up a 700?
  4. Seems simple, but can't figure this out. Have a .gpx with a bunch of caches I want to find. I would like to be able to print maps of the caches with the names visible on the map. Right now all I see are the macros for the caches, but no names. Any help? I do have gsak if that helps, even though I'm a novice user of it.
  5. I know there have been a ton of posts concerning the Nuvi units, and I've read most of them, but have a few questions outside the realm of what most are asking. Obviously, having read the previous threads, I know uploading caches is possible. I have NEVER used one of these devices and am not familiar with exactly how they work so my questions may be kind of elementary based on my lack of knowledge of them. I guess first let me explain how I want to use it. The unit will only be used to assist me with navigating to the general area, have a PN-40 which will be used outside the car. I will be traveling from S. Florida to Maine this summer and would like to complete the I-95 challenge (GC1BQ72). This challenge requires (2) caches be found in each state I-95 passes through. One on the east side and one on the west side of 95, with 10 miles of each other. What I want to do is preload these caches into the GPS and as I'm driving up 95 be notified when I'm approaching them and need to exit the highway. So here are my questions. 1. I know the caches are uploaded into the unit as POIs. Are there user settings to turn on/off the display of POIs (ie. if I have caches installed are they always going to be displayed or can I turn off a setting so they are hidden if I'm not out caching)? Also, if there is a setting, is it all or nothing? Am I going to be able to only have the unit display the caches and not every bank, gas station, restaurant in town? 2. For my 95 trip, can I set up a route so it will direct me to my first 2 caches in Georgia, then my 2 in S. Carolina, etc... all the way up the coast or will I have to manually set up each state as I complete it? Thought I had more questions than that, will post a reply if I think of anything else. Thanks for the help.
  6. I didn't read all the replies, but I am obviously a cacher and I am also a law enforcement officer in S Florida as well. I can tell you from 1st hand experience, only a handful of people in my agency know what geocaching is. I've educated many more since being here, but it's really not that well known of an activity as I think some of us like to think it is. Toting a gun and badge on all my caching adventures I have no worries of having any negative experiences like the OP did, but I have contacted several cache owners with legal concerns I have seen with their cache placements from a LEO perspective and all have been very thankful and taken appropriate actions to fix them. As far as what happened to the OP, there are always 2 sides of the story, we are getting 1. If it really went down as stated, then I seriously think the cop made a huge mistake and was WAY too quick to jump the gun. Just my 2 cents. As a side note, I had the pleasure to make good friends with a few fellow LEO cachers this past year who were brought into our hobby by running across a few cachers while on duty. You may be surprised how many of us get hooked after learning about the sport during an encounter.
  7. Have family coming down that wants to do some caching/hiking while down here. Looking for any areas in S. Florida or Central Florida that offer a good day hike with a good amount of caches. Only requirement is dogs must be allowed. I will be visiting Jonathan Dickison SP as I've been down there and still have some to grab from CP4 that I didn't get. My brother was kind of wanting to go up north a little bit near some springs or something. Any suggestions?
  8. Haven't run into any yet. But I'm a Deputy myself and am always keeping an eye out for anyone caching so I can have a little fun with them, lol.
  9. I'm tentatively planning a road trip for this coming summer from Fl to Ct. This is not a geocaching venture and not looking to spend too much time off the beaten path (I-95) looking for caches. An absolute goal for me is to find atleast 1 cache in every state I go through, other than that, it's a case by case basis. With that said, I'm curious if there are any must find caches along the way. I know that's a very vague question, but looking for anything out of the ordinary and unique. Thanks.

  11. Thank you very much. Ordering a few right now. Think I'll order a few extra to add as FTF prizes to some future caches of mine.
  12. A few friends of mine have these geocoins attached to their GPS's to log their miles etc... They found them as part of an FTF prize so they are of no assistance with pointing me in the right direction to purchase one. I've found similar ones, but being the owner of a PN-40 which is bright orange, I think I would kind of like the exact one pictured which is a close match. If anyone knows who sells these, please let me know. Thanks.
  13. Ditto the previous poster. The old caches were removed several months ago for placement of the new caches for CP4 which I attended this past weekend. I too was a little behind the 8 ball and didn't get out there in time to grab any of the old ones. There are now approx 240 new caches in the park which should stay there until atleast fall of next year.
  14. Luckily I'm a cop and always have my badge and gun on while caching, so won't be an issue if/when I get stopped. Still waiting to come across my first cachers while working so I can have a little fun with them and play dumb, lol.
