  1. 1) Both. I was really into finding benchmarks last year, but the caching bug took over for this one. I am getting back into tracking down benchmarks in my local area. I get much more satisfaction finding a benchmark and snapping a photo of it to log than finding a cache. I am moving back towards benchmarking again. 2) GC.com. I am no professional surveyor and I do it more for the personal satisfaction. Maybe for the few marks I have found where the description is really screwed up, I might contact NGS to change the data sheets.
  2. Thanks Welch. That was my original point. Too much is not necessarily a good thing.
  3. Do they plan on implementing something similar to the personal stats page as well?
  4. 2 coins arrived yesterday. My 3 year old quickly laid claim to one (it is already in her money drawer to her cash register), and I was able to activate the other one. Great job and they look excellent.
  5. Whatever happened to the monthly newleter I used to receive with the first caching downloads for my area each month? Is that found in another area on GeoCachin.com I can't find. It was a pretty good way to spread some info.
  6. I am glad to actually "see" the work I do in Vermont for recoveries. I am even more impressed with the amount of finds by other benchmarkers in Vermont.
  7. I can see that it might get a little anoying Smejk. But how can you delete some virtuals, and allow others? Just curious.
  8. I am just getting back into finding benchmarks again and I realized how much I enjoy doing it. The few people that find them around me (including myself) do not leave detailed descriptions that would be considered spoilers. If we see a great discrepancy (northsside of street instead of south side, near pole 17 instead of 18, 6" from witness, not 6 feet), then they are listed in the log. I dont care if someone has found the mark. I get the pleasure of finding it myself. There are a few marks that have given me trouble even after someone has found it (and included photos), so I treat prior finds more as an FYI than anything else.
  9. I know some cachers do not use a GPSr to find caches, but the cache I am trying to set up would require you not to use one, or at least use it in the standard way we are used to. I am trying to set up a multi-stage cache along the compass course of the local military college. I want cachers to use thier brains, a compass and the MGRS (Military Grid Reference System) to find the points leading to the final site. Is this a good idea? Should the points remain in standard lat/long? The listing would give a basic (very basic) intro to MGRS and explain what they needed to do (it isnt that hard once you get used to it) to find the points. The total hiking length (it would be on the side of a half-cleared 2000' hill) would be 3-4 miles long. Any thoughts?
  10. Another good feature is when you change your screenname, all the logs change with it so you dont have to go back and change them all. The same thing goes if you change your avatar too!
  11. Some of the hardest ones to find are camouflaged with the woodland pattern.
  12. Try this one jocatch. When installing new batteries, make sure you calibrate the compasss. Sometimes I even have to do this in between installations. I always get better reception after I do this. I think it is in the navigation menu on my Vista.

    Mailing Tb's

I have mailed a few TB's in the past. The overall intent though is to help the TB get some more mile on it. Both TB's were race bugs.
  14. I just dropped 3 white jeeps into an event being held this Sunday. Now you all have me scared. The 2 meets I have attended though were run pretty smoothly, but I can see how you log a TB in a cache and then someone grabs it and places it back into the meet can be a problem. Wouldn't whomever finds it and takes it out of the cache fix that problem...until someone grabs it from them of course.
  15. Go into "track travel bugs" left. Do an "advanced search" in the upper right. In the "keyword" section type in VIRTUAL. You should come up with 78 hits. The rest is up to you. Or you can just click here.
  16. I found a dirty diaper in the middle of nowhere a few feet from a cache in Arizona. The funny thing was that no one had been to the cache for a few weeks and there was no sign on anyone being around the cache before I got there!
  17. People like that make me realize how sane I really am...I think.
  18. A big yes here. My family and I slept in his headquarters at Carlisle Barracks, PA last year. Can I claim a find?
  19. The state of Vermont has about 200 historical markers along the highways and byways of the state. They are located at places like the birthplace homes of both President's Coolidge and Harding and Norwich University - America's first private military college. I would like to waymarkers to add subcategories of each marker, and then further waymarkers can add their "finds" there. What do you think?
