  1. While maybe not a big deal, the new Iowa souvenir (which I really like) isn't entirely correct. It states that "Iowa is the only state whose west and east borders are 100% formed by water — the Missouri and Mississippi rivers, respectively." However, there is a small segment of Iowa that juts across the Missouri river and "into Nebraska", so to speak. Look closely at a map of the north Omaha area and you will see "Carter Lake" Iowa. To drive from the city of Omaha to the airport, you actually pass through Iowa without ever crossing the river. There are a few Iowa caches on the west side of the Missouri river.
  2. FTF prize? In one of my caches I left an unactivated TB for the STF. The FTF got the physiological satisfaction of the FTF. Having a prize for the second finder definitely kept the interest going.
  3. I'd say no. The cache wasn't published, so it wasn't really a geocache. It was just a container in the woods. While you may have technically found something, it wasn't it the spirit of the games of seeing it posted, using a gps, and locating the cache. Obviously, there is a lot of disagreement on this one though, so to each their own.
  4. I notice on some of my caches that several people have them on their watch list. Sometimes it would be nice to know who they are. Are they people who have DNF's and are waiting for the cache to be found before trying again, or simply other cachers who are interested. I think it would be great for cache owners to see who is watching their cache. Anyone else agree?
  5. Thanks a ton. This is exactly what I was looking for. I had already downloaded and installed Cachemate, but somehow had missed Cachenav. Now it's like having my computer and this site with me in the field. I did manage to get a fatal error that required my palm to reboot within 30 seconds of installing, but I'm hoping that was just a fluke.
  6. Since I already had a Palm M515, and wanted to a get into Geocaching on the cheap, I purchased a Magellen Palm Companion from the Palm site for only $70 after rebates. The unit works great and has taken me right to several caches. The included software works well, and includes downloadable maps which appear, at least in my opinion, to be very complete. Even here in rural Iowa it has the back roads. I downloaded "cachemate" software for the GPS, and info from the geocaching site dumps right into it. I have everything from the site, including general notes and hints. I haven't figured out how to get the actual waypoints to download directly to the GPS software however. I've had to re-key those in (or just use cut and paste). While this isn't too bad, I'm sure there is a better way. I'm open to ideas or sharing what I've learned with anyone else who is using the Magellan GPS companion with a Palm m515 or similar.
