  1. It is becoming more and more frequent that I find a cache that is listed as having trackables in it only to find no trace of them. This is not only discouraging for the cacher, but it is really rude to the person who owns the trackable. Please if you remove a T.B. or a geocoin from a cache, take the time to log it so the owner can keep track of it.

unfortunately this happens all the time and is the risk you take when you release a TB or GC. But I agree with you - it is very frustrating when you go to a cache expecting to find a trackable and it has gone. As a cache owner I do always read my cache logs and make trackable owners aware if their item is not in my cache as thought.

  2. These are my little Bu babies - to be placed in caches we have visited. What do people think??
I have also made a few of these to leave in caches. They are handmade crotcheted brooches.
I'd trade for them in a heartbeat. Too bad I'm half-way around the world from you...

    Thanks for the photos!

oh wow - thanks so much for your compliment - that makes me feel so good. pm your addy and I'll make one of my Bu babies especially for you x x x :)

  3. My first thought was about permission and has been addressed by succotash - I do hope you have or get permission as it sounds as though this would be a great cache. Have you thought about an extra large bison tube? Trouble with decon containers is that they have to be closed properly to get a good seal - disaster if someone doesnt close it properly. Please keep us informed.

  4. I love circluar routes through picturesque places - especially if there is some historical value - luckily living in the UK you can't move without learning something new historically - it's great for the kids. They get out for the exercise and are learning at the same time. We do like high terrain ratings too - being climbers we like the crags.

  5. Hi Folks,

We are derbyshire - don't profess to know everything but are willing to help as much as we can!!

  7. I took a travel bug from a cache a little while back. It's attached to a rather large plastic hippo (about 6" long). I've been specifically trying to take it to larger caches, but when I actually find one big enough to leave it in, the cache is always full. I really feel like I've kept it too long, now, but I can't find anywhere to place it. I've even tried to return it to the cache I found it (I wouldn't be the first to do this, by its records), but that one's too full now, too.

Any advice? I'm still new to this, so I'm very open to ideas.

I'm debating mailing it to a friend in another country to see if he can find a new place for it. Is this kosher?

I suggest that you contact the TB owner - they may ask you to mail it back to them.

  8. I can't imagine the tough time you are having at the moment - my heart goes out to you, my thoughts are also with the poor kids stuck in the middle.

Personally, my husband and I, along with our daughter love geocaching. It has turned our lives around. I have recently lost my job sowe live on very limited funds. But everytime my hubby has time off work, we pack up some sarnies and flask, jump in the car and off we go for the day. We have a great day for next to nothing. Our relationships with each other have grown beyond recognition. No longer do we sit in front of the television with square eyes. Yesterday we went out at 09.00 and didn't get home until gone 19.00. Dinner has been cooking in the slow cooker all day whilst we were out. When we got home we dished up the food and spent time talking about our day. My daughters best bit was sitting eating her sandwiches on the crag side and looking out over the fantastic views of the peak district. No amount of money can buy these memories.

My daughter writes a diary and draws pictures on her days out geocaching. She puts in how much she has enjoyed her time with her family and the great things she has seen along the way - she teams this with her bird watching diary. Maybe your kids could do that - then you have something tangible to show the judge when your ex says they don't enjoy it.

    Good luck with everything.xx

  9. Our geobus is a 4x4 and we take it off road a bit - there are some green lanes near us, we nearly always taking it caching, but we do park up and walk - simply because we love the walk. Caching and 4 x 4 ing sounds a bit too much like drive bys and although we do these - we prefer the long 10 mile trecks across gorgeous countrysides. Have a good time if you find any though x

  10. Please help me - I bought a piratemania coin and the instructions in the packet says go to www.ukgeocoins.co.uk but I can't fnd it anywhere - any ideas anyone??

They might not of uploaded it to the database yet. You can contact them through their website. Give them the number of the coin and ask for the activation code.

Thank you very much I will try that x x :):)

  11. I totally understand what you are saying - but unfortunately that is the risk you run with coins. I have had a few TB go missing and it is upsetting. The only way to ensure your coins are safe is not to send them out in the first place and just let them be discovered when you go to any caching events.

I personally do not like the idea of copies - I love finding a cache with a GC in it - I have found a few copies and it is really disappointing. I think you may find that it will go missing quicker than a proper coin. But obviosuly it is up to you. Good luck with them whatever you decide.
