  1. Marky, First off, I'll give you the benfit of the doubt because you don't know me (though I'm not sure that would help in this case) and because my "post count" isn't that high, so it might look like I'm a n00b, but check my joined date. I do know what's going on for hte most part, and I'm not an idiot. I do filter things through GSAK but I don't have Mapopolis or any other mapping software on my GPS or PDA. So, to the real issue Is there then a way to overlay yet another graphic that would simply mirror a small area of the actual map to cover up the other icons?
  2. I'd like to get a general consensus to see if maybe I'm the only nut who misses the old cache maps, where caches you'd already found would not show on the maps. I do like the current maps, to show all caches and found caches, but when I go to check on density when I'm looking for a numbers-run around my hometown or neighboring cities that I cache in often it turns into a hassle to pan around, zoom in and out and pan some more to see where I have alot of unfound caches. It's even harder to do this by way of the nearest cache or PQ lists. So, could we get an option (I don't care if it's a premium feature or not) to "Turn off found/owned caches" under the beautiful "Show found/owned caches"
  3. If they were in the survey I personally wouldn't answer them. Most importnatly, they aren't Geocaching related in anyway only for demographics, and I personally don't care if geocaching caters more to democrats or republicans.
  4. I've been trying to push this idea to some of the guys around Ohio for a couple months now! I should start frequenting these forums more often, but I'm so busy out finding caches. Personally, I'd bet we could name the event: Geo-Lympics. The dash should confuse any search engine the officials use and we'd still get the idea across. I've also been thinking along the 'timed trial' events. Could have a Go-to race (more or less an orienteering race) where you'd get your goto set and first to get there wins. I haven't put too much thought into what different types of competitions could be made since I haven't gotten too much support for the idea here in OH, but I'd be 100% willing to help organize and/or compete in the first annual Geo-Whatever-We-Call-It.

    Personal Tb

I use mine as a 'quick reference' as well. I'll write information on the TB page like what TB's I picked up, extra coordinates for multis and other stuff like that, along with a direct link to my log for that cache.
  6. Yeah what is up that Carleen has a bag full of dirty and broken golf balls in her luggage?!?!?!?! I haven't counted them yet, but be aware that revenge is coming!!!!! Seriously though, it was one great event! I just got home and need to start logging. That could take me a week!!!! The work that went into the event was amazing and I send my thanks out to those who did that. I loved meeting so many people and that catfish was darn good too!!!!!! I don't know how many others brough tsome for you, but about 30 of those came from me cleaning out caches. And since I had to donate the most dirty golf balls, I'd like to volunteer to start out one of those cans.
  7. ChurchCampDave is in East or SouthEast Indiana cacher. He was never a "power-cacher" that I noticed, but I still see his finds or notes on my watchlist. I myself didn't join the forums till I joined gc.com in August of '01, but I've got alot of local forums I frequent of cities or states that I cache in and I really only read the regional boards here once a month or so, and they're slow. So I couldn't even claim myself to be a lurker.
  8. I have found that being stealthy is the trick. You don't want to get caught lurking in the underbrush when a mom and her two young children pass by on the trail, but I think being 'sneaky' is bad. If someone see's you being 'sneaky' they're more apt to call some authority. Best action to take if you are caught caching? Be honest. The best way to be discreet is to NOT try and hide what you're doing.
  9. The critters have already emerged from Northern GA to Mid KY, all we need here in Cincinnati is a good soaking rain (which we've had threat of for two days now) and we should be getting that mid-late this week, so this weekend might not be so bad, but they'll be in force by early next week. I'm already planning on doing most of my caching out-of-town for the next month or two just so I don't get knocked in the head. It's bad enough half the work I do is outside where I'll be attacked, don't need to cut my caching down too.
  10. I've been thinking about refashioning my own, but a GC tire cover would be tres cool.
  11. The midwest or extended Ohio River valley is home to many 1k+, a year or so ago 7 or 8 of the top 10 (at least) were between CCCooper, following the river downstream (DLiming, ShowMeTheCache, BruceS) and extending that by a couple miles there's JoGPS and Southpaw. Since then there's been alot of others popping up over 1k: Ladybuggers!, kimbyj and myself from Cincinnati (Webling's at around 970 I think, he just celebrated his 200th Ohio cache), Deermark, Daggy, KEPNFIT, Kikster, JPlus14 from Southern Indiana. So, to answer the original question: Q: How many cachers have over 1k finds? A: Bunches.
  12. Cincinnati, OH 45231 Miles: Caches 5: 45 10: 120 20: 272 50: 455 100: 1615 (which has dropped since last fall)
  13. Hints should clue into the exact location. Some level of saying "log", "rock", "tree" or what have you, but without being so blunt as that. I too hate when I get to the spot, search for 20-30 minutes, check the clue that tells me I'm in the right park
  14. Coming into the season, you could probably find a decent P/T slash temp job with your local city/county park districts. The hours usually vary, so you could probably find ample time before or after work to grab one or two caches. If you're lucky, you'll get a position that would rotate you to different parks, offering up different caches with each position.
  15. After reading all that I hope people realized what the "LS" stood for... I thought about figuring it out but quickly gave up realizing I didn't want to know.
  16. I've always thought there should be a legally notable geocaching permit, so no geocacher with the proper ID can be ticketed or harrased by law enforcement.
  17. I was introduced by a coworker, now, 2 years later, I have over 1k finds and he hasn't been active in over a year.
  18. Opens up a whole new realm to the sport. *You have much more time to go hunting since you have no way to work. *No need to stop for rest, food, drink, bathroom, call the wife, etc... *Don't have to worry about staying on the trail or even on the ground. *Float in the air to get your best reception then sink to the ground and start searching.
  19. To the person who attends and contributes to the most CITO's within a set period of time (month, 3 months, etc...)
  20. Isn't the mid-west way past due for something? I remember the news years ago, but haven't heard anything since. The Ohio River valley lies on top of a decent-sized fault line. I used to live next to a house that was nearly demolished by the last earthquake in Cincinnati (can't remember the year and don't feel like looking it up ), so seismic activity coiuld be a likely solution, studying the pre-quake, post-quake of 'down time' effects to learn how to better predict earthquakes.
  21. IndyDiver has placed one (two maybe) in Indiana. You have to dive to get info and surface to find the cache.

    Ohio Site

Ohio isn't a huge state, most of the cross-posters have cached in central Ohio anyway, and thus would be a COG, even if they live 2 hours outside of greater Columbus. The current organization of Ohio's groups and org's works alright, all save the issues here in Cincy (which is more of a clash of goals and ideas than territory). I've stated in this same thread on the COG forums, that if each group published noticeable links to the other groups then we would reach the same outcome as having one main site. Almost a web-ring.

    Re-request

Remember way back in the day when all the caches you found could go invisible? I still believe that there's thousands of cachers that plan trips near caches they've already done, and turning off the caches they've already found would make mapping these trips soooo much easier. Don't get me wrong, I love my checkmarks, but they still obscure and confuse the view when you pan out so far. How 'bout it? Could it be something that's thrown in on the next map upgrade?
  24. I've been meaning to request a PQ feature to include Travel Bugs found or unfound. It'd be real nice for us TB hunters.
