  1. with my garmin.. i just drop the .gpx file in the .gpx directory of my gpsr.. simple.. no gsak requred.. the closes 950 caches are way further out than i'm going to drive on any caching run..

query runs every day.. i just gotta download it and hit the road..

or i just use my smartphone.. mostly still no gsak requried.

  2. took me awhile to learn about that MENU button.. does cool things in lots of apps.. and none of them say to press it for options..

after you get the map up.. you can pan and zoom around.. press MENU again and choose search here to get a new selection of caches..

if you then hit back.. it goes back to the first bunch of cahces.. not the one you just panned to..

  3. just think.. the CO may take your pic doing something silly and then post it on the internet..

do you realize how funny it is what you just said?

YOU already posted your picture on the internet

wow... i didn't see that.. that's what i get for posting on the forum from my phone while i was "busy" doing something else..

but in our pic, we wasn't doing anything.

something simple is kinda nice.. for instance, we have a travel bug that requests we take a pick of it with our dog.. we'll do it for sure.. after all it's sort of a doggy bug. it seems like a nice thing to do. and i'll post it on the internet..

  4. i have a dedicated unit.. very very seldom use it. but it is nice to have a backup. however, i had it before i had my phone.. it was my main gps.. my phone has replaced it.

  5. at our first event, many had some sort of signature item to trade with other cachers.. much like business cards..

really neat to drive a few hundred miles only to be given a sig item you have seen before then you can put a face with the name..

  6. i've found 2.. one if them was in a flower box.. huge sprinkler head in a flower box.. with no flowers in it.. just dirt.. and in a very public place.. and it's still there. it's amazing the things you can put out and the public just walks by. now that i'm a cacher, i notice things that " aren't quite right"

  7. i get into gc.com.. but not into the oficial android app which has no name...

you know, it's funny.. we can't discuss the app that has a name, but we can't name the app we can discuss..

say that 10 times real fast.. took me longer to type it..

  8. I got a FTF on Easter one year. The rabbit had left a 5 gal bucket full of small plastic eggs with 1 of them having a logbook. It was fun to do and of course when I put the log back I changed the color of the one you needed to find also :) That way the owner could have as much fun as I did finding the log. Now think about a even bigger container like a trashcan with a locking lid. JUST DONT DO IT IN MY AREA!!!!!!!

nice way to stick it to the man!!!! (insert evil laugh here)

  9. i can suddenly nolonger get in either

been great for months.. then a few hours ago.. nothing..

title of the thread should be something like android login problems or something..

  10. if you already have the phone, get the app and get your own opinion. many here HATE cellphones like democrats and republicans..

we found lots of our earlier caches with a nuvi 500... another taboo thing, caching with a car gps.. but it does do paperless built in, ruggidized and you can get it wet. now we use a droid x and a droid 2. we only take the nuvi as a backup. we very seldom and i mean very seldom go where there is no cell service.. the droids are great...

yes.. there is a mode where they use cell phone towers to help get a lock, but you can turn it off and i reccomend you do.. then you have a gps chip with an antenna.. may not be exactly like a dedicated gps, but all the pieces are there very similar to a dedicated handheld unit.. along with a direct internet connection to download all the logs.. not just 5 you get with a pocket query

smart phones for the most part do just fine.. but they are not all equal. get on here and see what people think about the particular phone you are looking at getting or own.. some are great and some suck.

if you have a smartphone.. get the app and give it a whirl.. if you want a dedicated handheld, there are still many to choose from. the smart phone will make you happy till you can get one.

btw.. my droid x has a lanyard connection.. i keep it around my neck so i don't drop it.. which i have a few times.. still kickin..
