  1. for my droid.. i have an app that when in sleep mode, all i get is a ringer for phone calls.. all other notifications (noises and vibrations) are turned off.. very handy i just look at the status bar when i have time the next day.

if you have a crapple i-phone, not sure how they want you to do it....

if you have the normal type of phone (not smart) it may depend on the maker of the phone. i have seen some with different modes for ringers and such.

  2. I've had a couple garmins in the past. Somewhere in all of them there was a place to put my name and number incase it was lost, an honest person could contact me to negotiate a return. I can find no such place for this information in this new gpsr.

I have not purchased a new garmin in several years. Does garmin not have a place for this any longer? Will i have to resort to a sharpie as I do for my kids when they got into kindergarden?

  3. all you gotta do is let the app average many readings.. there are free apps for that that do the job. in my honest opinion.

however.. i think it's way more easier to email these cords home from the app.. and then use a full keyboard and maybe msword or something to make sure the description is spelt right and such..

    i do love the thought.

  4. I don't know when it was added, but i just noticed that there is a 'send to phone' option from a cache page.

When i click on it, i get basically a commercial that tells me i can search for the GC code... i kinda know that.

am i missing something? an email address or an opportunity to put in my number to send a txt was expected i think.

  5. set up a pocket query.. i have one that runs every other day and gives me all the caches i havent found.. it puts it in a .gpx file i can download from the websight..

just drop this file in the gpx directory on your gps...

use the usb cable and plug it into your computer.. it will be recognized as a flash drive.. find the gpx direcrory and you are good to go.

  6. 1. How is the data stored ?

dunno.. i haven't found any .gpx files on my phone.

    2. Are caches stored in sub-directories in a file strucure or a database like SQLite ?

    don't think so

    3. Does it allow off-line maps ?

it caches maps by how and what you zoom you were at

    4. Which maps are available, Google, OSM, Streemap...

    google satelite and street

    5. Can GPX files be imported ? Are they listed separately ?

    yes and i think so

    6. Can GPX file be exported ?

    no

    7. Can Live searches be stored off-line for future use ?

as of the latest update i think so.. haven't tried it.

    8. Are MO caches available to Basic Members ?

doubt it.. you gotta login so it'll know who you are and what you ahave paid for.

    9. Can FieldNotes be uploaded for logging later at Home ?

    i think so..

    10. What happens when there is no data sugnal ?

download a PQ ahead of time using the app and then swithch to airplane mode and cache away.. works just fine.

  7. just peaked at garmens sight.. there is an etrex30 that has turn by turn.. not sure if that means street level for cities or just form city to city.. the extex20 is missing the electronic compass and the barometric altimeter..

either one of these would be great if you're a garmin fan..

our next dedicated gpsr is gonna be the magellan explorist gc.. it's much cheaper and money talks. not sure if it has turn by turn at the street level or not. we just want a dedicated gpsr for the texas challenge.. as a backup to our droids..

be there or e square!!! :)

  8. i believe that is one of the 2 units they made that is made for paperless caching and onroad use... We have one and still use it when we travel. we've been very happy with it.

other units may be better in specific applications.. caching vs driving, but if you can only get one gpsr.. it's a great choice..

being older, it may not have the latest maps in it.. understand the upgrade choices for the maps.

we have found lots of caches with our nuvi.. it records field notes which can be uploaded to geocaching.com.

we now use droids for our main caching tools, but still stick the nuvi to the windshield with a PQ on it when we get on the road.

it is also ruggedized and waterproof like most handhelds.. bounces off asphalt pretty well to.. still works great.

just know what your map upgrade options are going in.. if i had the latest maps on it, it'd be great.. but i have those on my droid.

  9. been using neon geo for severl weeks now.. any issue i had was taken care of by the developer rather quickly.. he is an individual and not a business with other proiorities. he responds quickly.

neongeo is great for getting inthe car and driving if you can stand the data on your bill. traveling it is just awsome. no pocket queries needed unless you go somewhere with no data. i haven't tried it in airplane mode yet. i assume it will handle it quite well.
