  1. Without looking at the link, I know the place HGKF is talking about, and in fact was involved in trying to help a cacher who couldn't find the original one last year before it did get replaced. By the time I went to find it this year, the replacement had gone too. Anyhow, I think it's reasonable to put a NA on it because the cacher who contacted me also contacted the CO and never got a reply at that point. As it's close to some caches I own, I'll be happy to return and find the new cache if as and when you get round to placing it!
  2. Ach - I thought I was doing well with over 4,000 miles - Alaska in June. But I know Interloper FTFed at least one in Santiago. We both live in Scotland...
  3. OK, so you're on a huge average per annum, but to call someone with "only" 6,000 finds "inexperienced" is astonishing, even if they didn't act the way you'd expected!
  4. I think he might have noticed, given he's taking up a prominent position in the picture!
  5. I did it as a gesture of goodwill last week. It was taken up. I don't think I'd claim a find, personally, but everyone's different, and there had been quite a saga behind the whole thing in any case.
  6. Ooh - I'm in the picture comp without having submitted a picture! (But then so's the competition judge!!!!)
  7. OK, eyes drying, nose blown and hankies washed for another occasion - I've logged out and in again (like I did last time!) and Bingo! Thanks, PP.
  8. Thanks for the idea. I checked it, tweaked it, re-entered my home co-ords AND put in my address (which I thought was already there) and still it's not changed. The home co-ords have always been there, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to do local PQs, nor get my local area when I open the map section (which is my default GC homepage). But you're right - I used to get the "NXX...." bit too, and now no longer. Anyone else able to advise?
  9. Yet again, my "Distance from" a cache isn't showing on a cache page. I've ignored it for a while, but would like to get it back and can't remember how. I've tried logging out and in again, and had a look at settings, but don't seem to be able to find what to do. Help please.
  10. Oh, and I took this web address too: http://www.geomag.bgs.ac.uk/
  11. Firstly I'll admit I'm a non-scientific luddite, but it was Doors Open Day in Edinburgh this weekend and yesterday I went to the British Geological Survey building to have a look around. So it's quite strange to read much of what I read yesterday there on this forum and the links tonight. I only arrived at 3.45pm and it closed at 5pm, so I had nowhere near enough time to get round it all, but it was fascinating nonetheless. And having scanned a QR code, I got this page on my iPhone: http://www.bgs.ac.uk/igeology/ Haven't explored it further yet or downloaded it, but it looks really interesting. I wanted to ask someone whether it's possible to overlay the Garmin maps with these geological ones too, but couldn't find anyone free at the time.
  12. Haha - that had me laughing out loud there!
  13. I also live in Edinburgh and also use Google Chrome, but am not having this problem.
  14. Actually I don't quite win North to South as Interloper has found the same most northerly as me in Svalbard, but has found one right in Ushuaia which didn't exist when I was there, whereas mine was 4kms up a mountain road! And had we landed in a certain place in Antarctica, I'd have been able to log the earthcache there, but we didn't so I couldn't. Chukotka is further east than anywhere else, but doesn't have any caches, so yes, you beat me in the latitude stakes as far as caching is concerned, but I doubt anyone can match my crossing the east/west hemisphere (not the International Dateline itself, as it wends round Wrangel Island). Just no caches, and no point in setting any as it doesn't do mainstream tourism.
  15. Haven't a clue how to work out the stats, but I would put in a bid for the greatest range of caching, having found in the Arctic (Svalbard, Greenland and Alaska), not quite the Antarctic (Ushuaia), Alaska and Russia, although my Russian range is restricted to Moscow as there wasn't anything out in Chukotka...
  16. What a bizarre site in terms of the stats. I don't get their calculations at all!
  17. I don't think I've ever done a mere "TFTC", although that beats the blank space which some people have reported receiving. Or a . Unless a cache is totally unremarkable, and let's face it, there are a fair few out there, I tend to post a little bit about my adventure or what I saw around me, which helps me to identify and relive the experience when I look back over the logs. As identified by the OP, it's also nice for the owner to get some kind of feedback, as well as future visitors. For instance, I've seen one or two caches where the posters can't give "anti-favourite" points, but make it clear that it is not a desirable one to find, etc.
  18. Yes, I saw some other sites, although both said that there's a mass of conflicting information about it. Apparently horses tend to avoid it, but the difficulty mainly lies in dried ragwort getting into their hay. It is nasty one on the liver...
  19. I would suggest I'm a reasonably but not outstandingly-observant cacher, and enjoy watching flora and fauna the year round, often with a view to photographing what attracts my attention. This year, however, I've noticed a massive increase in the amount of ragwort around the countryside. Now I don't know a heap about it other than it's a golden yellow and that it's supposedly extremely poisonous to horses (and cattle?), which I suppose is why it's attracted my attention. There are so many fields with ragwort in them. And verges. I had a friend staying a couple of weeks ago who grew up in Scotland and she said that when she was young, they all had to go out and dig up any ragwort which grew in the fields as it was illegal to let it stay put. That's the first I've heard of it, but if it's the case, a lot of people are breaking the law. Does anyone have any observations/comments to make?
  20. It's simple but effective, and has more DNFs than Fs due to its sneakiness: Moor and Mountain (GC2A6NB)
  21. Yes, the series that PP mentions are all good and contain heaps of caches. I have a series in the West Lothian area (between the A70 and A71) called The Sherbet Fountain Trail. All, including the final, are cache and dashes, although I'd reiterate that No.8 requires good attention as it's close to a fast road. I also have The John Buchan Trail around the Broughton area (A701 Moffat road), and quite a number of others in The Borders/East Lothian, most of which are cache and dashes. Some will challenge more than others (Moor and Mountain being one such). And of course I'm by no means the only one! Have fun...
  22. Well if anyone sees Little Miss Sunshine (Tracking Code TB32QTC), please tell her to stop tarting around the Low Countries and get herself to Scotland! She's been off flirting with all those Germans/Dutch/Belgians for way too long now!
