Ah, but it's not just about the CO's pleasure. Others visiting the pages use the logs to assess whether they want to go for that particular cache.

Well I tend to be on the verbose side, but usually on the more interesting caches. I don't think I've ever only written TFTC, and never duplicated a log and the reason for that is that I like to look back at my old logs every now and again. Some of the less exciting caches can be very difficult for me to remember, so usually my log will jog my memory. I put little aides memoires in my Oregon as I go along, otherwise I'd never remember things.
The fact that a number of other cachers have been kind enough to say how much they enjoy my logs is reward enough; I suppose if you're the type who doesn't like lengthy logs, it's easy enough to scroll on down - the avatar is very helpful for this.
(And there I was about to put "TFTC"!)

It's too gloomy. And the DNFs have gone from blue to grey which makes me feel bluer!!
Please change back - it wasn't broke, so didn't need fixed, imho.

This happened on a cache of mine a couple of days ago. I think the only real issue is that if they're unaware of it and think they've allocated a specific cache to find for a milestone, then realise there's duplicates before that milestone, it'll send everything askew if they then delete the duplicates.
I know I wouldn't like to double up, so mentioned it to that cacher.

For a change, I'm going to post without having read all the other logs to this posting. Perhaps I'll regret it, but not as much as someone's family if they get killed trying to find this cache.
Looking at Googlemaps, it is right in the middle of the A41, a dual carriageway which I know well, and which was intended to be the M41 but through lack of funds, never quite got up-classed. That said, it's a very busy dual carriageway and whilst I imagine then D/T ratings are in reflection of this and all cachers recognise that they undertake the risk of such ratings (or any other) by being accountable only to themselves, this one seems to be completely irresponsible.
Are people so very keen to cross that particular D/T rating off their list that their lives are to be put at risk? You could argue that a 5/5 might include a rock climb where, should you fall, it might mean curtains, but this is one where the hapless motorist may be held up to a charge of manslaughter, etc. They have enough distractions already and as it appears that the cache might be hidden in the barrier, don't we also already have enough of these?
I'd archive it. Original idea and all that, but no-one's life is worth the smilie face.
It IS a bad idea to post without reading the thread first, but the point with this cache isn't that it's likely to put cachers' lives at risk (all they are required to do is cross a road at the designated corssing point). It's whether motorists are being distracted and annoyed. Personally, I think the fact that recent finders have been warned by passing drivers is the key point which tips the balance of this case in favour of the reviewer. It may be the case that when muggles cross at this point they often have headlights flashed at them too, but I don't see that adding to the problem is a good idea.
And Alan is quite right to point out that whether this is a "good" cache or not has no bearing on whether it should stay or go. But on balance, if I was the CO I'd move the cache to one side of the road and both make it a more pleasant experience and a less controversial one.
Wow - a bad idea. Never mind, I don't regret it and stand by my earlier comments, especially as I do know the road in question. Always thought it was daft allowing pedestrians to cross there, but there we are. We can't all be wrapped in cotton wool; on the other hand, I shall not take the risk and wouldn't set such a cache which I think COULD endanger others, be they pedestrians or drivers/passengers.

When I won the competition some time ago I found that I hated the idea of choosing the winner in the next months contest, so much so that I have never entered again.
Some form of popular vote would suit me better, then I might be persuaded to have another go. Perhaps entrants to the contest could be given some points or votes to award?
Post them on facebook, and use the 'like' button?
Well I suppose that cuts out all opportunity of taking part then (see above comment "I don't use FB")!

I love that top one - reminds me of The Singing Butler. At least I think that's why I love it - not because of the thought of you, marmal, Brave Defender and Big Wolf sporting hairy legs and shorts for the day!

I don't use FB, but I'm a Luddite when it comes to uploading, so haven't entered. I think that's why when I apparently won a competition last year, the promised GC never arrived. I don't remember the details other than there was a shift in the goalposts where it was suggested I ran a subsequent competition but couldn't!

I'm onto my second (both presents), and whilst at 3L it's bigger than the first, they are the bee's knees. Personally, I don't use the bladder, so have removed it, but I use it all the time when out and about and love it.
I don't know how they compare, price-wise, but I wouldn't have any other.

Well there's one benefit, Dr S - any dogs in the water will be so busy trying to swim that they won't be nipping at your ankles as you cycle through it!

I think a attribute for BYOP (Bring Your Own Pen) would be a good idea. Eg for nano caches we could have this attribute.
Too many geocacher do photologs or write in their fould log that "Cache didn't contain any pen/pencil so I was not able to sing"
Don't let the lack of a writing implement ruin your operatic career!

I think the system is good as it is, although perhaps it might be extended to 1 point per 15 caches found. I think it also depends on when you started caching as to how willing you are to part with your points. When the points first came in, I went through all the caches I'd found (at least 1500, if I remember correctly) and awarded retrospective points, but I know others who have cached for far longer, who, understandably haven't done the same.
It's also a question of being more discerning. There are some which perhaps are a little less "deserving" of a point per se but because I was in a good mood/the sun was shining/the world was a great place, etc., I may well have been in a better mind to award a favourite point than at the same cache in different conditions. According to what I noticed last night, I have 303 points at present, of which 29 are still unawarded. Not as discerning as some, but perhaps there are a greater number of fabulous caches in my area than in others? Who knows. It's all subjective.

Planet said what I would, only better. Whilst you may be responsible/able with fire, and I might be, and 99% of the cachers out there probably are too, it just takes one slight mishap and there's a major problem. If it's out somewhere remote, even more of a problem.
So much of the world's vegetation and wildlife seems to get needlessly obliterated each year through mishaps, deliberate or otherwise, and it would be horrible to see the good name of Geocaching caught up in that.
Shame, but...

Thanks both. Shortly after I wrote the post, the stats page gave me the option to update, last having been updated 19 hours previously. It hadn't allowed me to do so before then.

Not sure the above quite ties in with my query, but it seems connected:
I made a rare "field log" from my iPhone today because I'd got a FTF and wanted others to know relatively quickly so's not all to be dashing for the unachievable goal at the same time. Back on the main site, I see that my stats still have 5th November as blank and there's no option to update them at present. Will this remain the same or will it eventually update? The log has the correct date on it and it was even 5th November in the Pacific by then (obviously some things different over the time zones from the UK to the US).
Any suggestions?

Sorry, but I think the issue of "how many Megas" DOES tie in with how often you would want to hold the Geolympix.
As others have remarked, those who contributed were assured that the money would be equally divided between three charities and that's what should happen. All that should be left at the end is the name, the concept and great memories. If the two former are carried over to a brand new event at A N Other time, great, but in the same way that London has finished its work when it passes the flag to Rio, so should this one be done and dusted with the handing over of the cheques.
Personally, I think the fact that the Megas are relatively rare (plucking a figure from thin air, perhaps 25 a year around the world?) makes then all the more valued. In the same way that great value is placed on the Olympics and Paralympics, I think it reaches that value by being held every 4 years rather than annually.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I like MTH's idea of pre-reserving the location. It is a little outside my normal territory, but still only 30minutes from home. At least if I hide a cache there it will be a decent sized box.

Just out of interest, how does that work if there's already a cache (albeit disabled) at the same or very close co-ords? I would have thought you'd get a message telling you you couldn't place one there?
