  1. The issues are with Topo2008 and have nothing to do with the Colorado (it has other issues!). Topo2008 loaded on any Garmin receiver will in some areas of the country show road data as off by several hundred feet. In my area (New England) many of the secondary and neighborhood roads are off by 200-300'. These errors are in the map set and show up on my 60cs the same as my Colorado. The accuracy of topographic features is reasonably good. If you want accurate road data you'll need to buy City Nav. Depending on your state you may find some free topo maps for your Garmin. GO$Rs +1 To that - I got a really nice topo for free from ibycus.
  2. sorry if this is in the wrong area but couldn't figure out how to post in the Utah area on this site. I registered for the forums on Utah Association of Geocachers and have yet to receive a confirmation code by email. When I signed up it said one was sent and there isn't on in my inbox or in my spam folder. When I click on "contact us" on the site it says that page does not exist, so I can't even contact the administrator to explain my problem. Are there any members that can maybe contact for me and then let me know here? I have the same username on that site as this one.
  3. That did the trick for my problem. Im able to hide the map that doesn't give me the streets when I'm in the town I don't have on my good topo map, then just switch the topo back on when I'm out of that area again. Thanks! Just wish there was a way to overlay both maps in that area so I could have the topo map w/ the streets from the other one...it seems to just use the topo when I have both selected...am I doing something wrong or is that just how it is?
  4. Awesome, will this allow me to overlay map sets? For instance, I have a mapset that is an AWESOME topo map for my area but it doesn't have the streets in a city I frequent often, could I have my GPS viewing both of those at the same time? Thanks again!
  5. You have both maps on the card? I was hoping to be able to do this w/ two different maps I've got in mapsource. How do you put both on the card? I have a 4gb card and when I put one on it seems to overwrite the other one...what am I doing wrong? After you get one map installed, go to the install location and rename it (I have mine named citynav2009.img and topo2008.img). Then you can install the next map. You can keep renaming and installing until you run out of space on the card. Are you talking about while you have it hooked up to the computer or rename it in mapsource? Sorry, I'm usually pretty savvy about this - but just can't figure it out...thanks!
  6. You have both maps on the card? I was hoping to be able to do this w/ two different maps I've got in mapsource. How do you put both on the card? I have a 4gb card and when I put one on it seems to overwrite the other one...what am I doing wrong?
  7. So I have the ibycus maps installed in mapsource as well as a really good south west area topo map. The problem is that I really like the streets that are in the ibycus but there isn't any topo info in that map. Can you overlay the maps so I would have both the ibycus and topo on my gps and how the heck do I do that!? Thanks in advance!
  8. Is there any way around buying the expensive Garmin software to do turn by turn auto routing on my 60csx?
  9. Well I went to Staples today and picked up a PNY 4gb card w/ a SD adapter for $20. Was able to put WAY more than what I even need onto the gps any only took up 800mb. Thanks for all your help everybody! So far this has been a great source of information and a great hobby for the family to enjoy.
  10. I guess if you can export from GE to a .gpx file, you can pull it into MapSource or GSAK. Other than this, I don't think it's possible to "send" from GE. OR - A quick Google seach came up with this: You could use something like a KML to GPX converter. That worked GREAT! Got all my hunting spots off google earth and onto my gps now! Thanks for your help!!!
  11. How do I send directly to the reader? All I see in mapsource is send to device...couldnt I set up the 60csx to show as a mass storage device and send it to it that way?
  12. Is this something that can be done w/ GSAK? Or does it just show "found" on the gps and then I log it at home afterward manually. Also, what is the best way to set up pocket querys? If there are duplicates that get downloaded to the unit will it just overwrite them and keep the found ones as "found"? I'm using a Garmin 60csx. Sorry for all the recent posts guys, just trying to get things up and running in the best fashion. UtahConcealer
  13. So I can't figure out how to send the places I have set up in my google earth to my Garmin 60csx. I have quite a few from hunting that I'd like to put onto it but the file doesn't jive w/ mapsource or gsak. Any hints on what I'm doing wrong?
  14. Is there a way to temporarily disable waypoints on my 60csx? I'd like to be able to have it not show the caches sometimes when I'm just out and about w/ the unit. There are TONS of caches near me that clog up the screen when just navigating around. Thanks!
  15. So I've got a mapset I'm trying to load onto the GPS from mapsource that is 24.75mb. I have about 90mb free on my card. When I go to transfer it to the GPS it builds the mapset, then transfers and says complete. However, the 60csx gets stuck on the "transferring data" screen and the screen doesn't go away until I turn the unit off or take the batts out. I updated the firmware on it, updated the USB driver thinking that would fix it, still doing it. It did overwrite the maps that were on it because now all I have is the basemap. Any ideas or anything experienced this problem before? Please help!!!!
  16. I'd get a bigger card too (big box electronics stores have 1G, even 2G cards for $20 or so). Optionally you can try creating a smaller mapset (i.e. just your State). In Mapsource you can create as many mapsets as you want and save them in a folder, then download the map you need before going out. Getting a bigger microSD card is probably easier. It says my mapset I'm trying to load is only 39mb - I'm going to get a bigger card I think, but now it went through and said it loaded the data onto it but it's not on my GPS...
  17. I did - it lets me transfer from gsak to my unit just fine - but gets about 50-60% done putting a new map on from mapsource then gives me that error...frustrating the crap out of me lol Hellllp!! LoL
  18. Load the maps you want, it will replace what is on the card now. Jim Tried that and get the message "there was an error communicating w/ your device. Make sure your device is plugged in and turned on. If this error continues to occur, you may need to restart your device." Any ideas?
  19. So the GPS I bought from someone on Ebay (great transaction by the way) has a bunch of maps loaded onto the 128mb card that's in it. I have an awesome topo map that I want to put onto it in place of the maps that are on the card now. But I can't figure out how to erase them from the card! Help please!!
  20. Remember the cache may have additional waypoints, so you may not get 1000 caches onto the unit. That would be like when I use the macro in GSAK right?
  21. So I'll be receiving a Garmin 60csx tomorrow and the person I bought it from said he put some good topo maps of the local and surrounding areas onto the memory card and put all he could fit on it. I'm wondering how many caches I'll be able to put onto the unit if the memory is used up for the maps? Or are the maps on the card and the waypoints / POI's on the internal memory of the unit? I have 500 caches in GSAK ready to load onto my new 60csx but will the go onto it? Thanks and sorry if this is a dumb question, I've never used a GPS before so not sure how it works w/ the memory and such. Thanks guys.
  22. it was worth a shot. I'm sure I'll be more than happy w/ the topo's I have for it.
  23. Ok, so am I dreaming or is it possible to get satellite type photos onto my Garmin GPSMAP 60csx ? It will be arriving in my mailbox tomorrow and was hoping I could do that w/ it. If not, no big deal, but would be an added bonus if I could download those maps into it.
  24. So on my GPSMAP60csx what all would show up when transferring from GSAK? I know it's not a true paperless type GPS but can't I get some of those things onto it if I could get the GPX files? Thanks guys!!
