  1. iTrax and FoxTail, Yes, it was your show. I heard it a while ago and am glad that I have found it again. I thank you for the chance to relisten if not listen to it again. I am glad that you guys have saved it online for all of us to enjoy. I am a cacher from the state of WI. As far as I know, there is a few of us that listen to your show (well archived show's at least) around the area. We are a small Forums page club called Northstar Cachers. We spread from the Twin City's to (To my knowing) a little town called GRANTSBURG which is located in Wi. The club is just a few of us from WI. and MN. I was also hoping that you could tell me where I can get all of your shows. I am attempting to download them all to CD. Also, is there a way I am able to listen to your show live? What time and what location. Again I am in WI. just in case you have to tell me time zones. Thanks again and I love your show!
  2. I would say that you need to look at the cache page better. Look at the dificulty, size and hint. The size of the cache is usually the #1 hint I look at. I would also find out what kind of cache I am hunting for. If you realy get frustrated, e-mail the owner of the listing. I have had to do that a few times. They can spell it out for you if needed. Give them your phone # and ask them to call so you can talk it over the phone. Or (had to do this 4 times now) Start looking for the cache then call them on the Cell and ask for further assistance. You will eventually be able to find the beacons just by showing up. I also set my GPS to tell me DIS. to Waypoint, GPS acuracy and I use the Compass for guiding me to the cache.
  3. A while back, I downloaded a geocacheing radio show off of the net. I told myself that as soon as I got my own home puter that I would download them all and listen to them. Can somone tell me where I found them. I thought that it was in the Resorces pages of the GC.com site. I thought I looked everywhere in there but have came up empty handed. I think that the radio show is from the Sat. radio thing XM or somthing. I am getting frustrated with the lack of finding it online.
  4. One of the bigest problems with etrex (got one myself) is that they have an internal antena. With that, It seems to be more apt to 'get confused' when you are in wooded areas. The second thing I seem to notice is other gps's. Example: If I go hide a cache with my etrex, it seem that most cachers with an old gps or etrex don't have a prob. finding it. But the more modern ones don't seem to locate it. Everyone here has good advise and good idea's tho. I would look at the 4 attempted caches. Are they all the same cacher? Perhaps their gps is off and yours is on. A new term for your vocab (if you haven't heard it yet) is GEO-BEACON This is the word cacher use when looking for the cache. Think of it as asking yourself "NOW WHERE WOULD I HAVE HID IT?" When you find that spot, its a goe-beacon. A log or stump or maybe a rock. When I hit ground 0, I mark the spot with my backpack or somthing. Leave the Gps there and just start looking around for the beacons. DON't FORGET ABOUT LOOKING UP A LITTLE. Not all of the caches are on the ground. The more you play the game the more you learn. In my area, I know most of the other cachers or their style of hides. One is the master of Camo. and always makes you work for it. Spray paint or perhaps its a medal fence post that has a removable top. Maybe its a micro magnatized to somthing that lookes it should belong there. Then there is another one who will literaly cut the 2nd stage cords to the bottom of a rock that is in a pile of rocks. But my Gps always works with his. If his cords say its there (acording to my gps) ITS THERE. Then there are others that seem to be 20 feet North of Ground zero. Keep plain. You will get to be figure it out as you go. The more you do the more you learn. KEEP AN OPEN MIND. Somtimes you have to think CREATIVITY.
  5. If you are willing to drive a little ways, I would check one of my old ones called 4-wheeler fun. Take a look at the pics at least.
  6. You shouldn't put your e-mail address on the forums so people know what is going on with the prosess. You have to download Geocaching Swiss Army Knife or some type of software like that. After you download that have to tell it that you are using a Garmin Gps and transfer the info to your gps. I hope that will help....
  7. Thanx briansnat! I think you saved me. Im not sure what I am doing wrong. Everytime I open Google earth, I get a big black area for where the map is suposed to be. Am I doing something wrong? Is my puter not wanting to load google? Is there a place on the net that will give me more directions for working google earth? But thanx brian. I am able to build off of your link.... And echo4lima, Yes I know that dirty hary had a 44mag. I just didn't want to quote him to the T. and the 454 isnt the bigest hand gun anymore (even though it should be) the bigest is now the 500 smith. The little pic. is a 357 not a 44. I guess it could be a 454 tho.
  8. I have been on-line for quite a while now and I don't think I have hardly made a dent..... I am making a trip from Lindstrom MN. to La Crosse WI. I am going to get a few caches in La Crosse but would like to hit a few caches on the way. I am a premi. member on geocacheing.com, and cant seem to get the Google earth thing to work (Or just cant figure it out). The main thing I am trying to get is; HOW DO I DOWNLOAD A BUNCH OF CACHES OR THE QUICKEST WAY TO DOWNLOAD FOR MY PDA AND GPS?. Or can some one tell me how or what to use with an old computer.
  9. I realy don't know if there is a way to update to 2003 or newer. I would recomend Cachemate as well. You pay $8 but well worth it. Seems most people are using this easier to get answeres when you run into prob. just by posting it on the furoms page...
  10. In this forums pages, do a search for Paperless caching. Believe me I had a heck of a time with it too, but people that are a little better with the puter skils were able to explain a lot for me. Read up on a few different furoms and you will be off to a good start. I too would recomend the GSAK and Cachmate. Do have to pay a little for it though....
  11. I agree with above. That is the same combo that I use and have never had a prob. yet. Pay the one time deal, and you will never have buy it again.
  12. You should be able to look at which ones you found by going into My Account. Then at the top of the page you should see "Caches (Mine)" Click on the caches part and there should be a list of all the caches that you have found. I have never heard of your sit. eather. I would like to take a look at this too....
  13. Whatever works for you! I every once in a while log a DNF. Most of the time it will be after the 2nd attempt for me. And if someone else puts a DNF, that dosn't 100% mean that its not there. It just means that for whatever reason they Didn't Find it. I would hope that you along with everyone else will put the reason why they wern't able to find it. Putting a Note for your sit. with the kids would sound a little better tho. Most of the time I look at the overall Dificulty rating. If its a 1 and I spend 30 minutes at GZ. This is usualy a time I will request that it be archived. If its a rating of 4 or 5, and I spend 6 hours on it, Its a DNF. I will also perhaps ask the owner for a hint at this time. But I would say a DNF would be right if you; Getting too tired to spend much more time on it. Take a close look at the Dificulty when you start getting dis. I guess take a look at everything regarding the cache, Size, Diff, Notes, Hints, and maybe type. I felt real dumb when I spent 2 hours looking around a sign in the woods thinking I was going to find a cache when it was a vertual.
  14. Well, I got this started when my wife was asking me if I had my geocaching bag with me. See, even if we arn't going to geocache, she feels comfortable with it being with us. How much crap do you have in your geocaching bag? Myne weighs a nice 21 lbs. Whats in your bag? Myne: First aid kit geocache ready to through out (If I seem to find a nice place) ziplock baggies extra pens and pencils New logbooks sweatshirt raincoat many extra battories flashlights servival can trail mix candy bars TP (the most important thing for men and women) Leatherman pocket tool Trading items 2 way radio Mp3 player trash bags bug spray Climbing gloves 50 ft. of clibing rope Extra water compass x3 (never have enough of them) IF ITS A SIGNIFICANT HIKE, a uncle Hennery 22cal. survival rifle with box of shells. (I have never brought it on a hike yet). Most of the time I don't make it over a mile walk. BETTER TO HAVE IT AND NOT NEED IT THEN ITS TO NEED IT AND NOT HAVING IT. This would add about 3.5 lbs. more weight. and for the last items, 2 gps's
  15. I have two gps's one is an Etrex Legend and the other is a Garmin GPS V. For some reason, I am unable to get my new (used old gateway G6-400) puter to "talk" to the gps's. Is there a spot on the web that someone can point me to that has the software to run these? Or does this puter have it and I am unable to find it?
  16. All I get is a NOT FOUND page! You may need to fix this
  17. Can you all start puting What state your in one the topic lines Just the Wi/MN/Io/ etc... Would be much easier to see whats going on.....
  18. Live in the big town of Centruia 54824. Hay Pto. Good to see ya in the local forums....
  19. Are you talking about on the acutual line or the little pic next to what you are saying? My pic of 357mag.? or This is a 357 magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world?
  20. Not sure if your new to the Forums page, but if you keep reading them, you will start hearing about Paperless caching. You can even do a serch for it if you like. Then you can desifer out in the woods. I also printed or made my own desifer paper and keep it in my geocaching bag. Welcome to the club......
  21. I don't think that I have ever been to ground zero with any of my caches... I just stop at the APROX. grond zero and search the area thinking "Now where would I hide it." Otherwise, lots of cacher seem to be going with the etrex series. Don't think you can get the car addapter for em tho.
  22. I like the NINJA method.... Dress up in all black and start creeping around.... DON"T FORGET TO PAINT YOU FACE BLACK. All mugelers can see are the whites in your eye and a yellow G.P.Sr. Then when someone comes up to you, just start talking to them in chinesss. HUNDAAAA.... FORTUNNEEE COOKIE. Then tell them in english (THE TRANSLATED VERSION OF WHAT YOU SAID) "YOU CAN SEE ME?" Then you start jump kicking in the air yelling HIEEEAAAAYYY. Believe Me People want to leave you alone after all this.......
  23. I don't think that I waited very long for any of myne. But I am sure it will happen some day.. A good hint to follow when posting new caches: Make sure you be extreemly thero when posting it. Under the "NOTES TO REVIEWER" Put everything pertenent. If its a simple Traditional, Tell them who you got permission from. (local Police Dept., DNR, etc..) That seems to help out on the publishing.
  24. I kind of had the same prob. except, I was changing from trad. to a 2 part multi. I just e-mailed the reviewer and told them what was up. No Prb....
  25. Im glad to see a nother newbe. Well, I cant' call myself a newbe anymore. I guess I am kind of new to the foorums pages but have been geocaching for quite a while. I thought I would just say welcome and its a good idea never to try to swim to the caches on the otherside of the lake (ponds/swamps) LOTS AND LOTS OF LEACHES......... Well around here anyway.... ICK... The only thing Im scared of..... ALL IN ALL= Welcome............... P.S. I have more then one gun, but I know how to use them all..........
