An idea I've been playing with for a few days is as follows: first part(s) of a multicache point to a wide-mouthed bottle, or something. Log book is in one of these non-final caches, where one would assign themselves a number, and write this number on the bottom of a bottle cap with a perm. marker. When the final is found, the cap (or something similar, don't yet know what) is just dropped in. Thoughts, please?

Geocaching Featured on "Law & Order"
Xilo replied to donbadabon's topic in General geocaching topics
Mehright, so here's my experience with this kind of contraption: I've been able to transmit (with relatively low bandwidth) data 7+ miles between two laptops using off-the-shelf FRS radios and a little soldering (serial-headset jack connection). It would be quite easy to set up a GPSr and some kind of pretty simple radio system with a large battery pack or a DC adapter tapped into the car's elec. system somewhere (trailer light conn.) On the other end, just have a laptop receiving the signal from the complementary radio and send the data to your mapping software of choice. The range of the entire thing could easily be extended if necessary. -
How much was it? Anyone know if there's a way to tell from the packaging if an eTrex is the new version?

Can't Find The Nearest Cache From Remote Canada
Xilo replied to PatrickD's topic in General geocaching topics
go to the Seek page and select Canada from the country drop-down box, and hit GO. On the next page, select Nunavut in the State/Province box and you'll get 5 results. From there you must choose a cache and probably map it to see how far it is. This is one way. The other is... worthless. I just plugged in your coordinates as my home coords, and YOU DON'T HAVE ANY WITHIN A HUNDRED MILES?!? I will shed a tear for you now. Uhm, yeah. You're basically out of luck until some more people move up there, or you take a vacation somewhere a little warmer. Sorry. -
I was thinking about placing a cache which requires the finder to leave a photograph. Basically, there's no logbook! To log, bring a photo of anything appropriate (for public viewing) and write your name/date/message on the back. Has anyone come across something like this? If submitted, would it be approved, or does a physical cache need to have a logbook? Also, as a kind of extension of this - Thinking more about bookless things, I thought of a multicache for which the first contains the logbook, where finders would take a number (in sequence) and the next coords, while writing. The next or a later container would be a place to leave a (metal) bottlecap with that number written on it (with a perm. marker), probably a wide-mouth plastic bottle. Any comments/ideas?

Couldn't find mention of it in the forum anywhere, and was wondering: If I edit a listing, I assume it must be reapproved. However, what if I only edit the difficulty? The hint?

Pair Of Garmin Yellow Etrex For Sale
Xilo replied to RockyRiver's topic in GPS technology and devices
I'll take the other! Please, if it's still available. -
The idea of logging an unfound cache is ubsurd. There's two separate ratings for each cache for a reason! There can be a 5/1 cache, just as there can be a 1/5 cache.. logging *either* of those is pathetic because they're *meant* to be difficult to find or get to - that's why they were put where they were. Laziness is not an excuse! Visiting a park is NOT the same as visiting a cache. This sort of relates - I want to hide a cache, my first, but I want to see more caches in my area. I was intensely considering making it mandatory that one hides a new cache in order to log mine. So it would probably be a 5 for difficulty because of the effort required, but only a 1 or 2 for terrain. Any ideas/comments?

$40 for a <a href="http://www.magellangps.com/en/support/oldprod.asp">Magellan Blazer12</a> plus exact shipping. Or make an offer.. -
It doesn't have a removable antenna, but it's way cheap. $30 plus the exact shipping. Really not the greatest unit, but it's no less accurate than most others. Magellan Blazer 12. I know you said the only condition, but I thought I'd just give you another option. Xilo xilo@berlin.com
