I don't intend on deleting logs based on this phenomena but I was curious to see how others felt. In my opinion if one is too apathetic or lazy to include even an acronym then why even bother.
-
Has anyone considered adding a WARNING to their owned caches that blank logs will be deleted? I'm not asking for opinions about blank logs. I don't care why it's blank, iPhone issue or otherwise, there's suppose to be something in that box!

Make sure the device's firmware is up-to-date. Lowrance

You'll have to do that from your PC. Connect the PN to your PC and open whichever drive (Internal or SD Card) the file is saved. (Menu-Settings-Connect to Computer-When Connected)

Lowrance discontinues the ifinder gps devices
Indotguy replied to GPS TREASURE HUNTER's topic in GPS technology and devices
I speculate the map transfer protocol may have been one reason Lowrance dropped the iFinders. However, I never had any problems with map transfers with either of the iFinders I owned. It was a one time deal; after getting the map on a card I never had to do it again so it wasn't an issue. -
Lowrance discontinues the ifinder gps devices
Indotguy replied to GPS TREASURE HUNTER's topic in GPS technology and devices
Yea, I'm not sure what Lowrance was thinking when they discontinued the iFinder line. I suppose they had their reasons. The Enduras were a huge step backwards and in MHO, suck. ("Oh boy! Touch Screen!" ) Of course the iFinder can still be used for Geocaching if you can live without paperless. I use my old ramshackled and beat-up H20C as a cache navigation GPS in my vehicle. -

Premium Member Only caches are elitist!
Indotguy replied to smomofo's topic in General geocaching topics
I apologize if this has already been mentioned, but I did not intend on reading every post to see. I occasionally set/re-set a hide as a "Member Only" for two reasons. One, if the cache is located in a sensitive area where I wish to keep down the number of visitors. Two, in areas where a cache has been stolen or vandalized. If a non-paying member is upset by this they always have the option of becoming a paying member. -
Magellan Explorist GC - Love, But Need 1 Feature
Indotguy replied to vincenzosi's topic in GPS technology and devices
I don't mean to direct this topic too far off course, but I wanted to make a comment. An electronic compass is a nice option and my newest GPS has one. However, I got along just fine before I had one and found a couple thousand caches. A compass, electronic or otherwise has some obvious uses for the geocacher (offset and projection caches in particular) but I never really understood the benefit of a compass in the "wilderness" as a navigation tool unless you are plotting your course on a paper map (which I am reasonably sure some of you probably do). -
Magellan 3030 w/ Lifetime maps update
Indotguy replied to Qwerty03's topic in GPS technology and devices
If you are serious about Geocaching you would be better off getting a handheld GPS. -
well then its more then that. You are welcome. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

Buying my first handheld GPS.
Indotguy replied to Frisbee Puppy's topic in GPS technology and devices
If you can't get one on loan from a friend then buy a used handheld or really cheap new one. Any of the major Brands will do (Garmin, Magellan, Delorme or Lowrance). Blow a bunch of money for a top of line model right at first and most likely it will end up in a drawer somewhere drawing dust after you lose interest in a month or two (Trust me, I've seen this happen over and over). Get a cheap handheld and go out and use it. If you keep it up eventually you'll figure out what bells and whistles you want and at that time you can upgrade to a better unit. -
I viewed the cache page, read the logs, and checked out the COs profile. My opinion is there is no cache and the "old school" guy gets a laugh out of watching folks visit the site and hunt for one.

Adding a Range Circle to a Garmin
Indotguy replied to Now at Zero Gravity's topic in GPS technology and devices
The Lowrance iFinder H20C had a Range Ring option. When enabled three range rings and their distance from the center would display on the map page. A very useful tool in my opinion. -
Earthmate® GPS PN-60 Firmware Update 3.2
Indotguy replied to allory's topic in GPS technology and devices
I believe v3.2 has been out since about Feb 2011. -
It's about time! By the way, what the heck is an "API"?

Even if the Canadian version comes with Canadian base maps you still ain't gonna have much. The Endura base map, like all base maps, are very lacking in detail. Additional mapping detail, even if you can find it for Canada, will cost you $$.
-
I don't think it's an 'undocumented' feature. At least not one I've ever heard of. Please let us know what Lowrance says about it.
-
I own an H20 and H20C. You don't say what the screen looked like before it did a complete flip, but I would suggest dropping it in the junk drawer and looking for new GPS.

Questions on the Lowrance Endura Out&Back
Indotguy replied to Green_Traveler's topic in GPS technology and devices
I can't be of any help to the first part of your thread. As to the second, whether or not your purchase was a mistake is not for me to say. I will say there doesn't appear to be many Endura users frequently posting here. I for one had one (an Out & Back) and didn't like it. I get the impression there were others who felt the same. In the future you should probably consider doing your research BEFORE you make a purchase. Thanks for the reply. I got a pretty good deal on it and since we are new to caching, I think it will be a great learning tool. Thanks again! If you got a good deal you did alright. They are not a bad unit to start out with. -

I don't need to see the video to conclude this is about as lame as it gets. The only redeeming quality of power trails such as these are to help bore and burn out a few number crunchers and eventually get them out of the activity.

how to clean a peanut butter or mayonaise jar the easy way!
Indotguy replied to Penlowe's topic in General geocaching topics
I've had great results with "sleeved" peanut butter cache containers. I wash and soak them in hot soapy water and do a final rinse in pine oil cleaner to remove residual odors and repel critters. After drying I wrap a length of duct tape around the middle of the container and paint the lid and bottom flat black. The container is then "sleeved" inside a short section of gray PVC sewer pipe. (The duct tape helps keep the container inside the sleeve). Sometimes I camouflage the pipe a little with some black paint.
