  1. It would be nice to not have to switch map cards. Has anyone tried copying the map data from the original card to a 4 gig card? I presume the map data is copy protected but I thought I would ask anyway.
  2. I feel the Endura's have potential. Thanks to the active online support provided by the "Expert" I patiently anticipate future updates.
  3. A netbook to geocache? Sounds like an expensive accident looking for a creek to happen in. I doubt this device has ever seen a creek. It's probably more likely to be dropped on a sidewalk or Wally world parking lot. By the way, what's so funny about about the decimal minute format?
  4. Tape them together and seal them in a ziploc freezer bag.
  5. My last two GPSers were an H20 and H20C. They were both good units, particularly the H20C. I now have an Out & Back with a regional microSD topo map card. I haven't had the opportunity to do any serious caching with it yet, but I'm committed to giving it a chance to prove itself. The touch screen is nice and the paperless function seems handy. The topo maps with the 20 ft. contours are an improvement over the 40 ft. contours of the MapCreate software. What I don't care for is the loss of road detail when zoomed out and the hill shading. I think I'm going to miss the MapCreate maps although the AccuTerra data seems to be more up to date. In my opinion the Endura's would be a superior unit had they designed it with more of the features found on the iFinders.
  6. On the Lowrance site it shows this update being released on 05/02/10. (Oh I get it. Must be D/M/Y format.) Nevermind
  7. Occasionally a person will inadvertently log the wrong cache online. If you are SURE they did not visit the cache and sign the cache log I would delete the log.
  8. Indotguy, I really hate to admit it but it looks like we overlooked a date field. I have submitted a request that we add one, any suggestions on where you would like to see it placed? Regarding your comments on road layers, have you tried to set the mapping detail setting to high and see if that provides better detail? I'm not too concerned where a date would be displayed. The navigation page would be good since I presume most users probably use it. A date data field would be ever better since it would allow the date to be displayed on the page best suited to the individual user. With map detail set on high county roads are lost at the 1/2 mile+ zoom level.
  9. While I too float hopes of future Endura updates, I might add that had Lowrance simply incorporated the features found in the iFinders and made use of, at least optionally, their existing MapCreate mapping software, the Enduras could have been so much better. While the more detailed elevation contour interval of the Acuterra Maps (on microSD) is a major improvement over MC, in my opinion the hill shading is little more than cosmetic.
  10. Thanks for the help but I'm still going to miss having a date field. I'm sure the paperless caching will be great and I look forward to logging some caches with it. I like the unit. It's got a solid feel and the touch screen is nice. On the other hand, other than the better contour interval of the microSD topo mapping, the Mapcreate topo on my H20C is still a better map in my opinion. Mapcreate maps will keep all county roads in view at all zoom levels. This is a real plus when one needs to follow county roads for five or ten miles to a cache.
  11. My unit came already upgraded to 1.21. Possibly the date is displayed when a cache is logged but there is not a data field for the Date like there is on the H20C.
  12. A gps will get its date from connecting to the satelites in the sky... have you turned it on outside, yet, and got a fix? I'm aware of that and yes I've had a sat fix. No date display on any page and no date data field that I can find.
  13. I've just received my new Out & Back. It's pretty neat and I'm anxious to get it outdoors. The only question I have so far is where is the date? Am I overlooking a data field somewhere? I have always relied on my GPS to display the date when logging caches in the field. This is worrisome and could be a somewhat serious issue with me.
  14. If both of firmware updates are loaded onto the same microSD card will the Endura install them in the correct sequence? (1.1 then 1.2)

    Protest

Seems like a pretty lame protest in my opinion. Why not archive and remove all your caches and quit playing. THAT would make Groundspeak take notice!
  16. GSAK is an excellent program. It can be as simple or as complicated as one wants it to be. As mentioned above, a beginner might be less intimidated with a more basic software such as EasyGPS. After caching a while and learning what sorts of Geocache data they would like to see, GSAK might seem more useful and a bit less complicated.
  17. I do occasional inspections of my caches but have never physically removed a field log to cross check against the online. People actually do this? Wow. I presume if you find discrepancies you delete the finds? Must be a lot of geo-cheaters in your neck(s) of the woods.
  18. Yeah - if you read my linked thread, you will see I contacted Garmin (via the local Australian agent) - they told me they were aware of the issue with the B&W Vista, but there was no permanent fix available! Sorry for failing to read the linked thread. I also could have chosen my words more carefully and came across a little less a snot. I'm no expert but this definitely sounds like a bug to me. I have a friend who owns a Geko and I'm anxious to see if his has date issues.
  19. Has anyone considered running this issue past Garmin support?
  20. Did you not receive a user's manual with your device?
  21. Thank you responding to my issue. I am not the most technological person. I have the waypoints saved in the GPX folder. How do I unzip them and send then to my GPS? What Operating System do you use on your PC (XP, Vista, Mac, etc...) and version? All the above have a built-in tool to unzip a file - just right click on the zip file and one of your options is "extract" - just pay attention to where they get extracted to - I suggest your desktop. Then "copy" the file from the desktop and "paste" it in the [drive]:\garmin\gpx folder that is your GPS. Where did you get the waypoint GPX file and as Starbrand asks is it a zip file? After you unzip the file, if it is zipped just place it in the GPX folder that is on your Endura GPS unit. The other option is to copy the unzipped GPX file onto a micor SD card, then insert the card into your Endura, power the unit up and it will ask your if your want to copy the GPX file, select yes and it will copy over the GPX file to your internal memory. I hope this helps, if not send me a PM with your phone number and I will try to help walk you thru this proceedure. I am on Windows Vista. I am downloading from Geocaching.com. It is saving the waypoints as an internet explorer file. I seem to be saving it ok but it is not tranferring to my GPS. Right now I don;t have a micro SD card but if it is the answer, I will get one. I did not think it would be this difficult. I'll go out on a limb here. If you are downloading caches directly from the cache search page they will be in 'loc' format instead of GPX format and your device will not be able to read them.
  22. If you need to ask where to find sand you have no reason to find it.
  23. Anyone made any purchases from CascadeGPS.com?
