    Etiquette

A couple of weeks ago located a cache. The information didn't say anything about needing a pen and also the size of the cache there should have been one there. When we located the cache the was no writing stick so I used a stick to etch my name into log book and then rubbed a little dirt to darken the etching, this was to show that I had been there. The only other way that I can prove that I was there is that I took a tradeable item. Sometimes there just is no way of signing the logbook.
  2. That's only if the police are aware of what geocaching is. I know a lot of police officers (through work) that don't have a clue what geocaching is. Unfortunately we live in a semi paranoid society where too many folks jump to conclusions and watch way too much CSI on TV. I think it's incumbent on the associations to make time to go to their local police and educate them. Perhaps a learning session. If we don't I think this kind of thing seriously jeopardizes the future of geocaching. Most of the newscasts that I heard started out with an explantaion of a GPS receiver then went on to talk how it was used for geocaching and then went into how many men and how many hours it took to get rid of this cache. That is why I made the statement I did. Geocaching has been on the news around here at least once a month or more for the last year, not only for bomb scares.
  3. All the police would have to do is get the coords of the "suspicous package" and cross reference with geocaching.com to see if there might be a cache in that area, then they would get an idea of what they might be dealing with. All this would take is a few short minutes and not many hours of wasted time. Simple idea.
  4. Cheated . . . sounds like two great adventures!!
  5. As a person who makes a living by driving I wish they would ticket everyone that has something blocking part of their windshield. I've hung even my CB mike cord in such a way that it doesn't distract from what I am looking at. Let's make a list of the things that are hung that block visibility . . . CDs hung from rear view mirror can catch any light an reflect it back into the driver's eyes. Then there is air frsheners, fuzzy dice all kinds of doodads, CB mike cords, grad tassels, cracks in windshield, enter anything you can think of ........................... . Anything that is the driver's line of sight should be banned as a distraction. Just my 2 cents.
  6. I'll have to agree with you . . . eg. locating a cache hidden in the plastic/metal sleeve around a guy wire just ups my cache count . . . most of the time I wonder what is so interesting about this place that you wanted me to come and locate this cache. I like caches that take you to a great view, historic site, different park, or an unusual cache, etc..
  7. It is the international by venturer. When I first visited this cache I noticed that the clear cut that marked the border, when extended across the prairie, seemed to be behind us when we were at the cache. This cache is located in an area that has a seasonal closure because of the birds breeding in that area. Great place to come and sit and listen to all the bird songs. On to you bobbarley. There is a brass cap further up the hill located by the cairn marking the Canadian/USA border. It's a few hundred yards away if I remember correctly.
  8. There is a cache, that on the its cache page, is listed as in Alberta but by its coords is south of the 49th parallel, what is the name of this cache?
  9. This thread is dropping too far down the page so I decided to answer the question (hopefully) and get the thread to the top of the page. Madame X is a peregrine falcon that nests on one of Hamilton's hotels.
  10. I'd stay anonymous. I wouldn't want my name out there just look at the way we attack each other when we don't agree with someone elses opinion.
  11. That's correct, on to you Bullfrog Eh-Team.
  12. Name this old mode of transportation which was caused by high gas prices. Horse plus car equals .....................
  13. Walt Whitman Here's a question about stone carvings and rock paintings. Are the stone carvings and rock paintings that we admire and value for their history only the graffiti of an earlier society? If so, the graffiti of today may be of historic value in hundreds of years.
  14. Alberta has numerous ghost towns. Some of these ghost towns still have human occupation. Here's the question: What ghost town is named after Walter R. Baker and how did this town gets its name?
  15. Blackhead, Newfoundland. Looked in different atlas, hopefully my eyes read it correctly.
  16. When I started out my wife and sons got me the book "Geocaching for Dummies", I read it a couple of times and it halped me out. Any bookstore should be able to get you one or you can order one from on-line.
  17. Was reading a forum on ice fishing at another site and they had these charts about ice thickness on it to remind to ice fishermen about ice thickness and its load bearing capabilities. So it depends which chart you feel more comfortable with. http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa111/Z...n-ice-chart.gif http://www.mass.gov/dfwele/dfw/dfwice.htm
  18. The child is correct, now on to you.
  19. I don't know if this is a question that falls in the parameters but here goes. With the days getting colder and caching slowing down I thought of what question would warm us up. The first clue is, I was born in this country. I know, not fair because almost all of you don't know who I am. So two more clues. I think the country looks like a butterfly but others say it looks more like a bra. This country is located between North and South America. This country does have some caches located on it and around it. Thinking of sun and sand while the temperatures today hover around minus 15°C.
  20. It would stand to reason that seeing Mt. Logan is Canada's tallest mountain then it should also have the largest circumference.
  21. So mort25, it is legal for you leave the path to remove the cache but it is illegal for CA to put the cache there in the first place. That seems like a double standard. What would have been ethical of you would have been, going to your friends uncle and letting him make the decision and both you and CA living with what he decided, but what it sounds like you want it your way and only your way.
  22. Loved your answer and seeing I didn't ask for the first white person to get credit for using the North Kootenay Pass and getting his name on the plaque you can ask the next question. Real answer Thomas Blakiston in 1858. I'll be more careful with my wording next time.
