  1. I guess that I always assumed that those watching were people who hadn't found it. Or like the Original cache, it is one that is important to people.
  2. Congratulations, if you ever get over to the west coast, we would make an effort to go to that event just to get a chance to shake the hand that held the gps that found that many caches. 10,000. Our 1,000 felt like a milestone so yours must feel like a boulder.
  3. This is one that we really enjoyed beacuse it was actually a beautiful spot to stop and explore. A Break from I-5: Wild Caboose Chase
  4. We have one south of Roseburg. GCMFT5 Who would have thought another I-5 cache and one southbound just north of Grants Pass. Just about every rest area has one. south bound south of Roseburg southbound about milepost 82
  5. I know that here on the west coast, the clean up crews are all taught about bottles full of tea and how to not handle them. And as you drive down the highway, there are so many along the road, once you know what they are, it is shocking. However I see more of the smaller bottles.
  6. Have you tried asking other local cachers if they know him and if they can talk to him? Usually local cachers have ways to contact each other and would know more about how to help. Do you have a link to the TB?
  7. I think cemeteries are one of our most interesting places. In small towns, you can see so much of the history of the town.
  8. The lady at the desk of the motel asked if we were in town for a convention and we told her no, we were looking for points of interest using global satalite positioning units to find them and she didn't ask anything else. Just checked us in. We had to break down and give her a flyer explaining it so she wouldn't think we were some kind of terrorist.
  9. I believe the approvers we have in Oregon are going a very good job. My last three cache hides were approved in 5 hours.
  10. That would mean even Safeway stores or gas stations, hardware stores, swimming pools, landscape companies or any stores that handle any hazardous material?
  11. I looked at the dozen or so caches that they had gotten in the last few days and most of them are micros or smalls. And sometimes caches are wet or look trashed. And since it has been only two weeks I wouldn't worry. They are still active and that means when they find the right cache they will move it along. It is better for them to wait for the right location than to just drop it off anywhere. We have had to hold onto travel bugs for several weeks before finding one big enough and not wet and moldy. A nice reminder about keeping tbs moving comes from geocaching after two weeks usually.
  12. Don't know what changed but after it messing up for ten finds, it is finally looking normal again without the error message.
  13. Mine isn't fixed. It just started while I was logging finds. I would write the log, push the post button and it says, "error this log does not exist in the system" . I tried to rewrite the log and then there was two finds for me so I deleted one. Okay, wait a bit. Log the next one, same message but does not appear on the page, but does appear on my found list. Now I have logged five and still get the message and still no log on the cache page.
  14. He could not think of anything else to do with the kids? Bet your idea gives him a lot of new ideas. There are TB's that travel from boy scout cache to boy scout cache. I got one that was from Canada and brought it down to the boy scout cache in Adir Oregon.
  15. The best way to read yellow tiny text is to highlight it. (hi lite tex)
  16. It sounds like you need to download your waypoints for the caches and then it should point to where you want to go. Mine works fine whether I am driving or walking and I can walk very slowly and the arrow still works. There is no fish or anything but the arrow works good for me. Usually within six feet you can put your unit down and find it without the arrow.
  17. I like events because I learn so much at one. I learn some of the latest tricks for hiding, find more clues for the tough ones I have problems with. Get to meet the hiders of both favorite and not favorite caches. learn new tricks with palms and gps and paperless caching and I even had a map beamed to me at one event.
  18. 4am? the sun isn't even thinking about coming up that early
  19. And please remember to not hold on to it too long, maybe a week is good. Too many newbies think the travel bugs are cute and hang on to them, put them on their desks as souvenirs and the loose interest and don't move it on.
  20. I think there may be some rules about tagging a migratory fowl if not government authorized.
  21. I have had several of the named TB's and know the owner of one, here in Oregon. I just hope that the powers that be can track this person down and somehow keep it from happening again.
  22. Our etrex did not use a cable so for the first 300 we just matched up the numbers until they matched the ones on the cache. It works fine once you figure out how to use it. You can also manually plug in numbers but as said before that can take time if you are doing several. We have met many cachers that just go by the numbers. Now we have two and for driving, we really like the arrow of the legend. Within walking distance of the cache, both the etrex with the numbers and the legend with the arrow seem to work just as well.
  23. The worst I have ever done is I once sent a family member back for a pen and once used a crayon that was in the cache.
  24. I am really sorry that you have had to encounter someone like that. It really makes you want to just pull the cache and say it isn't worth the trouble. But for every bad cacher, there are 100s of ones that would write, "wow, love the container". Keep up the good work.
