  1. That is a nice new feature. I am going to try to check my TB hotel at least once a week to see if there are any travelers missing that should be in there. I figure I'll give people two weeks to log them before I mark them as missing. I don't like to visit a cache that is supposed to have multiple TBs in there and find none, so I will try to limit this at my hotel.
  2. I had this same thing happen...bought a TB tag off of ebay and don't think they ever sent me any kind of activation code...or maybe I threw it away...will try to email and get it
  3. ok maybe I am just blind or braindead lately but I went back to the page and saw the "Mark Item Missing" pulldown menu (with just that one option)....I clicked Go and confirmed and now those two TBs are in "Unknown Location" which is where they should be and I can sleep better at night. Thanks to you guys above for the help...I knew that if I posted the question someone would help me quickly and of course my fellow cachers did not let me down.
  4. Here is the page for one of the travelers that is missing: http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.as...b4-dfb2fcb01bb9 I don't see anything on that page for "Trackable Item Options" or "Mark item missing" I see this in the FAQ: "The Travel Bug is no longer in [a cache]. How do I remove it? ........Cache owners also have the ability to move the travel bug listed on their cache page to an unknown location." But no details on how to do it...can still use some clear help...thanks...
  5. I know I read this before, but it sure isn't intuitive to find the information on the geocaching.com site. But basically I have a Travel Bug Hotel and it shows a couple of TBs in there and they haven't been in there in months. I should have done this sooner, but I want to get them off the listing for my cache so people are not disappointed that the TBs aren't in there. I know there is a simple way to mark them as missing or in "unknown location" but cannot find how. Can anyone help? Thanks!
  6. Using Delorme Topo USA 7.0. I see the routable trails work in this version. I made a start point and an end point on a section of the Appalachian Trail and had it calculate the route. I can view an elevation profile for this, etc. What I want to do is find out how to export this route to my Garmin 60CSx GPS unit....I'd rather export it as a gpx or track file than a route, but that would be OK. I tried to export it directly to the device in Delorme, but all it does is send the start and ending waypoints and not any points along the route. What am I do doing wrong or missing here!?!? Thanks for any help...
  7. and btw, my GPS receiver died a few days ago, so that is what has been delaying my TB hotel launch...I managed to fix my GPS (software issue). I'm also waiting for a friend to come over and help me paint the hotel. She is sick now...but I'm eagerly awaiting the day I hide it and hopefully it will be a success.
  8. Thanks...that's a good idea. I suppose before I mark a TB officially "missing" from my TB hotel, I'll post a log entry saying that the bug isn't there, so at least people will be aware of that in the interim.
  9. Yes it seems like maybe half the caches I visit that are supposed to have trackables in them, in fact, do not. I wish there was a way to mark them as missing. The system could at least mark them as "possibly" missing, so geocachers wouldn't have too much power into sending them totally to "unknown" territory. It's good the cache owner and trackable owner can still do this though. I hope they do update the site with this suggestion at some point. Until then, I'll just keep writing in the log that the bugs/geocoins were not there and hopefully people will read this and not get their hopes up.
  10. It sounds like you'll be an excellent Hotel Manager . Regular cache maintenance is especially important for Hotels, to make sure the cache is still well hidden, still waterproof, and doesn't have any TBs that have been there too long. Well I hope it the cache stays hidden well and no one takes it. I'm using an inexpensive plastic jar that is very waterproof.. I plan to spray paint it camo with green and brown paint. If it gets stolen by muggles, it won't cost me long to replace, but if I choose a good hiding place for it, then that will be less likely. Well I ordered a few official geocaching stickers yesterday so they should be here in a few days and I will be set to paint and hide my first TB hotel...I'm looking forward to it.
  11. Weeks and or months. You'll see my response in the other thread. But if wait weeks, then too many people will see the cache listed on the site with incorrect TB contents/inventory. It doesn't seem to me like people need more than a week or two at max to log a TB find. I have always done it within 2 days and usually 1. If they have forgotten after two weeks, then it seems like they most likely aren't going to remember. But I am new to this so just trying to figure out what is best for the geocaching community.
  12. I think you are both right....I personally would rather my TB just keep moving even if it's the wrong direction. It's no fun to have it just sit somewhere. But if your friend really really wants it to to reach its goal, then I can see how he wouldn't want it to go the wrong way.
  13. I had this similar thing happen to me recently and had to write the geocoin owner to get the tracking number. He was nice enough to do so and I corrected it and now it is showing up in the correct cache.
  14. Ok well those are good points and I'm trying to find a good place to put the TB hotel where it is easily accessible, but also not visible to muggles. I want to put it in a local park across the street from me, because I know i can check it quite often and keep the listing correct as to what trackables aren't in there when they should be. Although how long should I wait before I mark a trackable as "missing" or "unknown" or however I do it? I guess I should give people enough time to log their finds. I try to do it in a day or two myself, but i know some people forget. But what is a good amount of time to give them? I just don't want a cache where there are three or four TBs listed as being there when they are in fact somewhere else or stolen or whatever. I keep finding caches where the trackables are missing and it is annoying. Well I may have to be a bit pickier about the location as I don't want it to be too difficult to get to. I have only been to one TB hotel myself and it was near an office complex and very easy to park and find and drop of/pick up a TB and be on your way. I don't know if I can find a location that easy in this park, but I'll give it a shot....or maybe consider another location nearby. I certainly won't place any restriction on the cache except maybe for it to be for trackables only and no toys, etc in there. I am going to make another more traditional cache soon for those.
  15. I am very new to geocaching and am definitely obessive about logging my trackables correctly. I also try to post in a log if the trackables listed are not in the cache. Should I do anything else in these cases like email the owner of the trackable to let them know? I figure the cache owner reads the log, so I don't have to contact them. It is annoying to come across so many caches that supposedly should have TBs or geocoins in them, only to find nothing. I mean I still enjoy the cache and the whole process, but it's frustrating that so many are incorrectly listed and I'm wondering if I could do more to fix these by emailing someone.
  16. I think the idea of TB hotels are great. I am going to start a new one and am curious if it's approprate for me to grab 3 or 4 TBs from caches nearby to place in my TB hotel to start it off. I'm going to create a brand new TB as well to include. Is there any other advice or special considerations that someone could give me about this little project...something specificially for TB hotel caches? I am fairly new to geocaching and don't want to screw itup. I've read the FAQ and tips for starting a new cache but thought there might be some good tips here too...thanks..
