  1. Ive done two events at a bowling alley here and one of them was the 10 years event. Both of them were a lot of fun.
  2. cacheberry is the best for blackberry. Blackstar is a nice backup though.
  3. No. Solve an online puzzle get a smilie is some other game. No smilie, but here is an online puzzle that seems to never end.Clever Waste of Time
  4. Here's another type used for the cache: GC2AV28
  5. Ive also found an ammobox locked shut with the key attached to the other side. It had an eye bolt with one of those metal games where you have to figure out how the two pieces come apart in order to get the key off. Can't solve the puzzle, can't sign the log.
  6. I've done a 2 stage puzzle. First stage is a birdhouse with a bunch of baggies of "tools" in it. You take one and go to stage 2. Stage 2 is another birdhouse that you have to use the "tools" to open but it is up to you to figure out how. The tools consist of a popsicle stick, balloon, rubber band, paper clip, and one more thing.
  7. Only physical stages apply to the .10 mile rule. Tacks arent a physical stage so only the cache placement matters. The firetacks can be on a tree with a micro hanging from it that you can find on the way to the final. There is one in Tuskegee like that.
  8. We have a cacher in my area that has one in his front yard and one on the side of the house. He has a pretty big yard. Most people will park in his extra long and steep driveway and walk around the house to get to it. There is a motion activated sprinkler in the front yard that will catch you off guard if you walk through the grass. It was a blast but I felt uneasy going for the cache even though I knew the guy. edit: for clarity
  9. Yeah, but the people who live near these lonely 2 lane bridges will not see it that way. Believe me, I live in a rural area and sometimes I just want to smack people around here. Hyper-vigilance is good, common sense is great... unfortunately, a lot of people lack common sense. The people who live near them don't matter. It's not their bridge or their property under it (most of the time). I too am from a rural area on a two lane road and none of the people in that area care. They would enjoy watching people hunt it. But I agree, a lof of people lack common sense.
  10. If you are referring to first to find then you can either let the one finder claim it or it can be a group co-ftf. Other than that, why would everyone in the group not log the find? We cache in small groups all the time over here.
  11. To this post and everyone else against leaving cash in a cache: Was there not cash in the original stash when it was placed? If I am remembering correctly, there were 4 $1 bills in there which the first finder took. Therefore, money has always been a trade item.
  12. Why does everyone say it is against the guidelines to place them under bridges? Caches near, on or under public structures deemed potential or possible targets for terrorist attacks. These may include but are not limited to highway bridges, dams, government buildings, elementary and secondary schools, and airports. It doesn't say no bridges period. A bridge out on a 2 lane country highway is not going to be a terrorist target so I would doubt that it would be deemed a target. I have always read that to mean major bridges and landmark bridges. As far as this one goes, I agree that if there is danger to cars below then it is bad, but like someone else said if that wire mesh is there to catch stuff then why the worries?
  13. YES, a premium membership is absolutely worth it.
  14. These are always nice threads to read. I was reading one a while back and someone mentioned not being able to afford the premium membership and a short while later someone gifted them. As cynical as some a lot of posts on these forums seem to be, they are just genuine opinions and there are some really good people on here. I broke a heater hose connector in my truck in the middle of a national forest an hour from home and 5 minutes later another cacher pulled up and was there with me for over 2 hours until the new part arrived. I hid a cache that tells the story: Along Came Pilfering. I love this game.
  15. The badgegen macro from GSAK is pretty neat. I use that and the findstatgen on my profile and like others have said am addicted to the stats and trying to improve them.
  16. Wow. I'm from the south and have never heard of this. That is some scary stuff. Keep it up north and get it eradicated! Thanks for posting this.
  17. Though it seems more like an ALR, I would still consider this on the challenge cache side. You really could'nt set a no finds before this date count on this one like most challenges because it would'nt be a challenge for someone that stumbles across it years after it was published. So, by making you find it first, they have set a timeline that is adjustable to each cacher so that it is actually a challenge. Otherwise, you could just look back at your last however many finds and say here's 100 points.
  18. Magnetized the screws and use to retrieve a cache in hard to reach places maybe? Or really small magnets in the hose?
  19. Depends on the request. Maybe they are searching for an answer.
  20. If you do just make sure everyone takes care of the caches. We had someone in my area do that after they figured out what geocaching was because I had one hidden next door to their house and they met someone looking for it. They emailed me and said they were gonna do a party and look for a few of my caches. I was soon after doing maintenance on a couple of my caches. One of them had the lid totally gone and the log just stuffed back in. How do you lose a bright orange lid?
  21. This might have fit a little (or a lot) better under Off Topic.
  22. was there photographic proof? There is a cacher whose name I believe is nakedcacher, who as the name implies, caches naked. There are several naked pictures of him on his profile of his out caching (they are censored). I saw it on the forums somewhere so his name could be spelled a little different but I think that was it.
  23. Then why is it called a duck island? Thats usually the name for a small island in the middle of a small pond. People put them there when they build the pond as a safe place for the ducks to 'hang out'. That particular island may never see a duck or it may see them at certain times of the year. As for the placement of a cache there, like TAR said, go for it. If someone doesn't like it, they don't have to find it.
  24. Not if the traveling gnome was a person in a costume with the TB keychain around his neck!
