  1. How long do we look? Well, that depends on who is with us and how difficult the cache is rated among other things. Usually we spend about a half hour unless there are biting bugs then it is much less. One thing I have to admit that I'm bad at is logging a "did not find". I always plan on going back and that is the time I add it to the watch list to see if others are finding it. Then I go back with a vengeance. Chuck
  2. Welcome, your hooked now. I find that I go at my own pace, if you want to knock out 7,8 or more on any given day great, I take what I can and go at it again another day
  3. Fifteen... Your hooked! Since I'm retired I have my quires set for the 2.5 or lower difficulty caches. That works for me and I have more than I'll ever find. I did get one the other day within a tenth of a mile from home. I would recommend GSAK as a program for your PC. Keep on goin'
  4. Everyone keeps talking about being FTF. That's something I've never thought about and it really doesn't matter to me. I geocache in several different areas, MN, MO, and MI to name a few. Occasionally in Ohio and Florida. I use the pocket quires to keep up with the activity in my "areas of interest", most other notifications are just read quickly and deleted since my query will show what I want and give me more information. I also feel that since I use the services I should help, in my small way, to pay for them. If you really can't afford to pay, the majority of the services are still available to you. Please, be my guest, take what you need and help someone else to enjoy what we have also.
  5. That's a great feature that I never knew about... Thanks
  6. Clyde, Just registered today and am still learning. I have added MS mappoint to the tool bar along with mapquest. Mapquest seems to be working just fine, Mappoint gives me an error. Is this something in the set-up? Something I've done wrong? I seem to get several other windows loaded at the same time for sites I've never been to before. Is this part of the program or is that coming from MSM. javascript:emoticon('') smilie Thanks, Chuck
  7. How about just vacationing. I thinks it's a great way to "see" the area that you are vacationing in. I guess that assumes that your traveling for your vacation. javascript:emoticon('') smilie
  8. I have had the same problem and used the percussion method myself. Glad to know that it is a known problem. I just had my legend repaired (about 6 months out of warranty) and it cost $99.00, but what I got was effectively a new Legend. According to the paper work I got back the only thing original was the case. If I remember correctly, it only took about a week to get it turned around.
  9. Looks good can't wait to get one... Oh, ya, I'm married, guess that's going to have to wait. Nice pictures.
  10. On my Garmin Legend the click stick "enter function" seems to be intermittent. Sometimes it seems to function correctly, other times I cant enter using it. The directional functions work just fine. I can hear the click on all actions both directional and enter. I haven't had the problem with the directional functions. This seemed to be noticable after upgrading the software to 3.20 but I'm not real sure if that would have anything to do with this problem. Anyone have anything like this?
  11. When entering the zip code for my home location I seem to be several miles off. Anoka has the zip code of 55303 and entering that the system seems to center on Annondale, MN which is about 20 miles up the road. Several good sites that I'll have to try but is that happening to others? Should that be reported as a bug? Using the zip code look up Annondale has the zip of 55302. Strange... javascript:void(0)
  12. quote:Before you put an item in the cache, ask yourself:1) would I leave this item if somebody was watching? 2) would I leave this item if I had to put my name on it? That's a good point to remember. I like "Had nothing to leave so took only memories" Chuck
  13. Thanks. Please don't mind my jump on your topic, but I had dropped off a bug and then found that I lost the activation code and by the time I got the code the but had been removed from the cache. Now the bug is in the wild and activated, but the person that has it has not logged a visit to the cache that they got it from. What now?
  14. Thanks for the insight. I think that taking an average and letting people know that the coordinates have been averaged shows that the cache owner has taken the time and effort to do it correctly. Some that I have looked for have been located "on my GPSr" in the middle of a river. ( Although that still could have been within the allowable error.) I don't see how adding the "finders coordinates" is an insult to the cache owner especially if they didn't state the method used to obtain the original coordinates.
  15. Both like to give it a try. We are just getting started and the time together out in the fresh air seem to do wonders. Haven't tried anything to big yet but we'll get there someday.
  16. Looking around and see that everyone has one but me and I don't know much about them... Yet
  17. I'm in it for the fun not to try to win something. When I go somewhere and a I can participate that's fine. Spent time in upstate NY last month and nothing was available and I didn't have time, so... Just used it to verify my driving directions and that was good enough. ?why don't they have starbucks on the GPS maps?
  18. Thanks, got it to work using Windows 95 compatability. Worked like it should and did on the other machines. Thanks

  20. Just tried to update to 2.37 using my XP system and I seem to be having a problem because I'm being asked to provide the fillowing information to Tech support "IOL_channel.cpp-119-2.05". Is this known?
  21. I'll have to put a repair kit together this weekend.
  22. Think this is a great idea. What is rated a 1 for someone could be much harder for another. Time of year could make a cache harder or less difficult
