  1. I remember those days well. I remember hanging out on the website waiting for a cache posting to come up so I could rush out and find it. I remember spending my entire Friday night planning for a Saturday of Geocaching, printing out cache pages and maps and adding them to that three ring binder. I remember hitting the dollar store once a week for geo swag items, in fact I always had my eye out for cool geo swag while shopping anywhere. I remember meeting robertlipe on the cache trail on that cold autumn day. I made a friend for life that day. And not long after that I met another geocacher, Jogps. Another life long friend was made. I miss the old days. I loved the hike in the woods to find a box full of goodies. I loved seeing some really neat places and landmarks that I may have never seen otherwise. I may not cache as much now, but I still love this sport. I'll always be a Geocacher.
  2. I just placed my order for four bronze. Great looking coin. I'm looking forward to receiving mine. Thanks! Murrcat
  3. I am so glad the option to pay by credit card has finally come to past. I never felt comfortable with paypal. And just in case the powers that be are interested, I paid by personal check this year. I wrote the check back in March. It took almost two months to get my membership reinstated but to this date, my check still has not cleared my bank. Maybe it has fallen behind a desk or somewhere. Who knows? But it is good to know that when I renew my memebership this year it will be a much easier and faster transaction. Keep up the good work and thanks so much for all that you do! Murrcat
  4. She's an aunt of mine that I do hold very dear to my heart. But I also have enough respect for her immediate family not to show up too early and to not expect them to entertain me and assist me in any way since I'm from out of town. Which is something they always do when I visit. But this visit is occurring during a difficult time for them and I don't want them to feel any extra burden to take care of me. So, I'll use those extra hours before the funeral to do a little geocaching, and then I'll spend time with them after the funeral. I think that's traditional, isn't it? Thanks to everyone for replying. You've helped me to feel more comfortable taking my gps with me.
  5. Thanks mogolloyd for your reply. That give me the reassurance that it will be ok. By the way, I'm flying USair.
  6. I just received the news of a death in my family and I've made my plane reservations and will be flying out first thing in the morning. I will have several hours before the funeral that I could use to find a few geocaches. I'm sure this question has been asked before and I did a search but wasn't coming up with any answers. My question is: Is it ok to take my gps with me on the plane? Does it have to be in my checked luggage or can I have it in my carry on? I really don't want to be detained for possible terrorist activity. And if this is a strong possibility, I will probably just leave the gps at home and find another way to occupy those few hours. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
  7. My membership has been reinstated. After two emails and posts on another thread and starting a new topic here, I received an email this morning apologizing for the delay and confirming my status as a member. I never lost sight of the fact that these people are extremely busy and are there to make this game a pleasant experience for all of us. And I'm so glad that the next time I have to renew, Groundspeak will likely be accepting credit cards. Case closed. Cache On!
  8. I mailed a personal check to renew my memebership on March 10th. It's been 5 weeks and the check still hasn't cleared my bank. I sent two emails to the "contact us" address and have not received a reply to either. I was a charter member and sent the check in 2 weeks prior to my expiration date. At this point, all I want to know is has my check been received????? Is 5 weeks too long or not enough time to wait? I'm considering stopping payment if the check has been lost in the mail. But my bank will charge me $25 to do it. I would appreciate it if the powers that be could let me know something or reply to my emails. I see now that they are soon to accept credit cards. That will make this process so much easier, but I've still got that outstanding check out there!
  9. Well, mine must not have been in there either because I'm still waiting. I used Paypal for the first two years and I'll admit it was quick. But I've heard stories about Paypal and I just felt uneasy having an open account with them when I was only using them one time a year. So, sending Groundspeak a personal check for my membership sounded like a good alternative. I didn't realize my membership was about to expire until I received an email 15 days prior. That's when I immediately sent in my check. But apparently 14 days wasn't enough time. With the new "My Cache Page", we can see our expiration date. I'll be sure and send mine in well in advance next year. Or maybe by then, goundspeak will accept credit cards online for membership renewal. In the meantime, I'll continue to wait.
  10. Thanks Jeremy. I feel certain mine is in that stack of mail you picked up today. I appreciate all your hard work.
  11. I sent my check by snail mail on March 10th and I'm still waiting. I'm trying to be patient but I am becoming concerned about whether or not it's been received, is it lost in the mail, do I need to stop payment, etc. etc.???
  12. "Make A Wish" is a cute cache in Myrtle Beach that gets a lot of hits. Also check out "Alice's Grave". It's a virtual with an interesting bit of local folklore. "Vereen Memorial Garden Cache" in North Myrtle Beach is a great multi cache to find. Travel just a little bit north into North Carolina and find "Weekdays". It's at a GPS store. Also don't miss "Avian Island #1". It's one of my all time favorites. It's a very pleasant walk down an undeveloped beach which is sometimes frequented by nude sunbathers. Have fun!
  13. I went to college in Murfreesboro back in the early to mid eighties and it was a great little college town way back then. It's grown quite a bit since then but I still think it has a small town feel. And it's not too far for a commute to Nashville. Come on down, take your boots off and stay awhile.
  14. I just finished watching Tennessee Crossroads. Great job Jogps, Sis, Robertlipe, and a182pilot. That was Tooooooo Coooooooooool! I'll be curious to see how many new geocachers start playing the game as a result of seeing that show. Sorry I missed the watching party at Applebee's, I found out about it too late. This is so much fun!
  15. Way to go Southpaw! It sure is fun being a geocacher in the same local area as several of the top cachers in the world! Your a gem Southpaw, and your brother too!
  16. The original T-Shirt had a large color block grid on the back with the words "Geocaching" below it. The front had the words, "The GPS Cache Hunt" "www.geocaching.com" on the upper left breast. That's all, it was a very classic looking T-shirt and I'm sure will be missed by many. I hope they bring that shirt back. I'm sure it was a best seller.
  17. I don't think the Groundspeak store has ever had a bumper sticker, just the window cling. But what I'm missing is the original T-shirt. The originalT-shirt appears to be gone and has been replaced with a new T-Shirt, with the new Frog Mascot on the front. While it's a cute shirt, I doubt I will buy one. I would prefer the classic look of the orignal shirt over the new cartoon character shirt. Of course that's just my opinion, I'm sure the new shirt will sell well. I just wish the original shirt was still available, mine has seen it's better days and needs to be replaced. I'll cast a vote for a color logo vinyl sticker too.
  18. ok, duh, I guess the little x's denote the caches that I've found. But I must say I preferred having the caches that I haven't found appearing at the top of each page, it was easier and faster for me to see what was out there to find. Just my opinion.
  19. I must not be understanding how this is susposed to work. I'm getting a page full of caches I have already found. I went to the new search page and checked the box to exclude caches I have found or hidden but when I return to the page of caches within my search area, it's still full of caches I've already found. Oh well, I guess it will all work out eventually.
  20. I'm very honored that some of my hidden geocaches are counted among your 2000 finds. I can only dream of reaching that level of geocache finds.
  21. I've had my shirt for about a year now and I love it.It has held up great but I do plan on buying another one soon. I wish there was a sweatshirt available to purchase. It would be great to wear while caching during the cold winter months.
  22. quote:Originally posted by Centaur:Seven message replys before a simple question that was asked gets the correct answer. What a fine bunch of folks we are. Can we do a little better for the new folks? We were all newbies once you know. http://img.Groundspeak.com/user/66427_2400.gif Ditto!
  23. Thanks Centaur for explaining this to me. I now understand a little better what exactly was going on. If it happens again I'll know to exit and restart. Maybe I'm a little less computer stupid now. What would the rest of us do without computer geeks to get us out of trouble?
  24. Thanks Jeremy for whatever you did. I just tried again to access a member only cache page and was able to get in. I haven't a clue what you mean by my browser may be caching my pages. I'm really rather "computer stupid" and only know what I've been able to teach myself which ususally gets me into trouble. So now I'm headed out to try and find this cache I was wanting to find today. I hope my browser doesn't do this to me again. Thanks for all your hard work! You Da Man!
  25. I am a charter member and the system won't let me access member only pages. Is anyone else having this problem? I am logged in. When I click on "details", it sends me to the page saying I must be a member to view the page. I then re-entered my ID# and it still won't let me view member only pages. What gives? I feel if I just leave it and come back later, this problem probably will have solved itself but I wanted to hunt a certain nearby member only cache today and needed to access the page. Just wondering if it's only me or are others experiencing the same problem.
