  1. So I have an idea for a series of caches that I'd like to place highlighting the many craft breweries in the area that I live in. My question is though, would this violate the Groundspeak guidelines (specifically section II, number 4, which prohibits commercial caches)? I do not plan on endorsing the specific breweries any more than to say "There is a brewery here." The cache will be placed in such a way that it will be accessible at all times (not inside the brewery) and will not require any purchases. Thanks for the advice!
  2. I have yet to read the linked blog (but it's on my list). That withstanding, I found an electrical box cache once that I thought was done well. It actually had a label clearly stating that it was a geocache on the outside. If I remember correctly, it was near some other boxes that were actually locked. Usually if I poke something and it doesn't seem like it wants to come apart, I'll move on to something else. I don't like going in and dismantling stuff that looks official.
  3. VZNavigator is subscription based. And yes, as long as you get a GPS signal, it can locate you. But if you do not get a data/cell signal, it won't be able to load the maps. If I were you, I would get the Geocaching app or buy a used unit like Hemorrhage suggested. For non-geocaching, driving around directions, in the Google Maps app I have, there is a "Navigate" option (not to be confused with VZNavigator) that does vocal turn-based directions which is free. The icon looks like a blue arrow pointing up.
  4. If you plan to maintain the cache, great! But, if you are getting out of geocaching and don't plan on keeping up with it, please don't place it.
  5. Hi guys. I'm Jon from North Carolina. I signed up a few years ago when I first heard about geocaching, but didn't have the means to really get started. Just remembered about it recently and now I'm up to 23 finds so far. Already planning a couple of hides too!
  6. I haven't gone at night...yet. there are quite a few caches in my area that are specifically meant to be night caches. Here is a really cool example of one: http://coord.info/GCT3V0
  7. +1 I think this is probably what I'll do when I start hiding.
