  1. It's working again. I downloaded a new kml file & all was well. If it was part of the upgrades, no problem, but it would be sort of nice of someone said so. Upgrading is painful; we can be patient. Thanks. BTW, there are 2 threads going on this. I'm going to copy this message to the other one.

  3. I have been having the problem since yesterday, tried 2 computers & reloaded kml file multiple times on both. My fetching error says "junk" after (long line of letters & characters). Hope someone/somewhere gets this straight. Buffpup
  4. Anyone else having an issue with Googlearth? My kml link evaporated--which I understand happens periodically--but it won't reload. I get an error message about "fetching" problems. It says that the problem is "junk" after (great long line of letters & numbers). Noticed problem yesterday but still going on today. Thanks. Buffpup
  5. Sort of related question. Am transferring Topos to 2 gig card through a card writer. It's for a street pilot. The whole country fits, just under 2 gig, but the durned thing says it's going to take 8 hours! I transfererred nearly a gig, mixed City Select 8 and topos, to a 1 gig micro card for my 60 CSX and it took about 20 minutes. Are we doing something wrong?

  7. My 60 CSX runs City Navigator 8.0, which came with the travel package. It's my understanding that the different units have gotten a bit picky: the old vistas ran City Select, the new CSX's run City Navigator, and I think some of the auto versions like Street Navigator run City Navigator NT which uses a different compression program. If you go to the Garmin site & select your unit, there's a drop down menu that tells you which mapping programs work. Buffpup
  8. Hey Red 90, re the microcard, if you" have it show up as a drive, if you want, and transfer maps that way as well. menu/menu/setup/interface/"USB Mass Transfer"/ " Then can you add maps, just like you add files to a regular drive, or does it still wipe out what it has had in memory? Thanks, buffpup
  9. The new Axims come with the Windows Mobile 5.0. The note on the GPX Sonar site says to manually add the config folder, after download. But the program itself is downloaded to the computer, then transferred to the Axim? Is that because most PDA's were not wireless & it was the only way to get programs installed? I'm about to start this whole procedure--and stop killing trees printing cache info--so would appreciate all the help I can get.
  10. Guess there are 2 schools here. I'm only thinking about adding parking for the less difficult caches--the ones where some of us take kids & grandkids! We all know how much they like driving around. Seriously, this sport is a great thing for children. Thanks to those who do note that their caches are kid-friendly. Buffpup
  11. On some of the caches, the parking coordinates or directions to trailheads would be a great addition. Currently visiting in CO and there are some great caches in the mountains west of CO Springs but we don't know where to start--or even which Canyon! Suggesting this for us "lower level," who stay with 3.0 or 2.5 or below, not the real experts. Some of the cachers already do this and it's great. What do you folks think? Buffpup

  13. Problem is solved--thanks to computer expert son. I run a dyno label maker, which has its own software, and runs off the serial port. The software would not allow anything else to use the port, even the program was not in use and the label maker detached. Solution is a bit cumbersome. I have to go into printers, click on the labelmaker properties & move it to an unused comm port, like comm 2 or 3. When I am want to use the labelmaker, have to move it back to comm 1. Serial ports & things that use them are out of date--hint, hint garmin! ubs cable should be standard.
  14. Help! Just got a garmin etrex visa. Downloaded easy gps. It (& the Garmin update page) both say that my serial port is receiving information from another device--even when nothing is plugged into the port. Running Windows XP Professional on a Dell Inspiron 7000. XP says port is fine. Anybody had anything similiar? Ideas?
