  1. I would like to order (Geocaching items and non geocaching items) from the USA but I already know, just like you about all the fees which defeats the purpose of buying in the first place if your going to end up paying double the price to get it to your door. I really wish they offered a better way to ship to Canada, those border fees and duty fees are just ridiculous!
  2. Before there was geocaching people use to use these plastic containers with a magnet attached to them to hide a key under their wheel well. LOL I went out and bought some after! I haven't put it on my car yet though
  3. A few years ago when I was in High-school, I went to get a few caches on the other end of the city. I parked my car, got out and as I was shutting the door, I then realized that I had left the key in the ignition!(Thankfully I had shut the car off) But when I remembered the door was in the process of closing and it had enough momentum that I could not have stopped it in time! Its funny how if I would have remembered like 0.5 seconds earlier I would have been able to stop the door from shutting. It's also funny how your caching day can go from good to horrible in a second. I had to call my mom from work to pick me up and bring my spare key to open up my car again. It has been the first and last time I have locked myself out of my car(Hopefully). It's funny how when ever I get out of my car now, I triple check to make sure I have my keys before shutting my car door.
  4. I've had those moments too, I hate when your sure you've checked every possible spot numerous times on separate occasions and someone with a couple finds finds it right away! It's frustrating but I laugh at the same time because there's no sense getting mad over a good hide. There's one cache near my cabin that I've been to a few times and still no find, this summer im GOING to find it I tell you!
  5. Hello Fellow cachers, I am in the final process of releasing my next cache and I am having one small annoying problem. When Im writing up the long description part of the cache description I have a few paragraphs of writing and I space each paragraph by one space in-between each paragraph just by hitting enter twice. But when I submit the information and view the listing I see that all my 3 paragraphs are bunched into one big paragraph and there is no spacing at all! I was wanting three separate paragraphs and when I submit the info it has one big paragraph! am I missing something? I even tried pressing the space button between the paragraphs but still takes the spaces out and puts it all into one paragraph. Please help thank you!
  6. Whats even worse in my opinion is when a cache description lacks a description... There is a person in our area that has no more then a sentence in there whole cache page description, not even a long sentence at that.
  7. I have had a few individuals contact me and given me a reason why they could not sign the logbook and that's fine by me since their reasoning was reasonable but if I were to notice someone who does that on a lot of caches Then I would probably delete there log, simple as that
  8. We have hidden over a dozen caches where the main point is to figure out how to open the container to access the log book. We also have a couple caches that have nearby decoy containers (i.e., containers without log books). While I'm sure they're creative fun hides, putting up antics that make finding the cache easy but finding the log difficult comes up real close to the line drawn by the banning of additional logging requirements, IMHO. You're certainly entitled to your opinion. The Groundspeak guidelines, however, state that requiring people to both find the cache and sign the log is not considered Additional Logging Requirements: None of our caches require people to take a picture of themselves wearing a silly hat while they sign the log. They merely require people to sign the log. That is 100% technically correct. Still seems very similar when the cacher is expected to perform some action in addition to finding the cache. That's just my opinion but I don't see much difference between "you must all climb the tree" and "you must now find the logbook". Same spirit if technically within the "rules". Having said that I have ENJOYED several caches of the "puzzle to get the logbook" type. I also enjoyed the silly hat cache I found in Michigan. The problem scenario with the "now get to the log" cache type in my eyes is the cache that's frozen in place. Some cachers will take your philosophy to heart and break the cache trying to get at the precious log rather than take a photo, or come back later. Thats just it, come back when the cache is not frozen in the ground so your able to sign the logbook, as a cache owner I have never checked on my logbooks to see if the online logs match the actual logbook, I might now out of curiosity. But If anything I would expect to see signatures on the actual logbook and not online because im sure a few people forget to sign it online. In that case I would message the cacher to remind them that they found my cache.
  9. Hi everyone! I am wanting to put a picture to one of my new cache listings. I know how to upload one, in a way that you have to click on the picture title to see it in a different browser. I was wondering how to have a picture right in your description? thanks for your help!
  10. I went to Michaels and found what I was looking for, thank you guys very much!
  11. Here are some 4mil bags on Amazon, all different sizes. You can get 500 for 10 bucks and if you're Prime, free shipping. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=zip+lock+4mil Sounds like a neat idea. You can print little labels for each bag, maybe even with a picture of the plant-to-be. Well I checked Safeway, Shoppers Drugmart and Walmart and still nothing! So do you think those ship to Canada and if they do im sure there is a lot on border fees... I might try going to the other end of town to try a michaels arts and crafts ...
  12. does anyone have the product number for the little bags in walmart? I went to my local walmart and the lady said they don't have any but I think they do, would be nice to get the product number or official name and check my local store online, would like to start making this cache soon, as I have nothing to do other then study... and I don't like studying all day! Thanks in advance, right now im going to go check Safeway I think. Cheers!
  13. Im just going to copy and paste my log from the cache page. Cache find #400!!!! And it has a great story to go with it! As I was approaching 55 feet to the cache in the shrub area I noticed a deer gallop further into the trees a few meters ahead of me. I was a bit spooked so I stopped and was looking ahead to see if that was indeed a deer... moved a couple feet ahead and noticed there were 3 of them ahead in the near distance starring at me and not moving, I made some noise by walking around and what not but still they did not move a muscle! Was a little scary as Im not sure if it is time when there young are around? So I tried to take a picture of them looking at me, between us were a few shrubs so not sure if your going to be able to see them in the first two pictures! So here I am wanting to go another 50 feet in there direction but was scared if the mother would charge ??? not even sure if its time when they have there young yet but that thought was on my mind! So I moved another couple meters ahead and still they did not move, infact one of the deers tilted his head to get a better view of me and the way he moved his head was human almost, just scary! So I waited a few minutes and still they were looking at me! So I decided that this has to be my # 400 and went back 10 meters and approached it from another angle. Slowly but surely got to the cache container, always keeping a look out for those deer and a possible escape route if they charged! So got to the cache (loved the camo and the spruce tree over top it) signed the log and got out of there! I did notice lots of fresh deer droppings around the cache area BTW. When I got out of the shrubs and more so in the open a couple deers went to the left up a hill and another few went to the right. I stopped and looked up the hill and noticed the deer stopped and stared at me some more so I took another couple pictures of him/her (not sure). Its almost like he was saying goodbye lol. I wanted to go to another cache ahead a ways to the right but I did not want to encounter those deer in the shrubs again! This all sounds a little silly but I got a weird vibe from these deer! I love animals just something felt wrong this encounter! Thanks for the cache and well camouflaged container! If you'd like to see the pictures or curious which cache it was here it is GC38AF4 Do you guys have any good stories that go with milestones? Its funny how that out of the 11 caches I found today this happened at my # 400!! Cheers to many more!
  14. Not sure what your talking about, I don't see anything wrong in the photo, the little red car?
  15. Think about what you just wrote. Makes no sense. There's nothing to prevent a "noobs" from being a premium member. Anyone can be a premium member before they ever start looking for caches thereby tossing your "theory" into the wind. I did think about what I wrote and I do realize I did not use my best efforts in trying to explain "my theory". I was trying to get across that a premium member cache is less likely to get ruined/degraded by fellow cachers because the % of cachers that practice good caching techniques far out weight the "new" people to the hobby that are not yet experienced enough. And im sorry if I came off angry or judging of new people, I simply believe that if you put a lot of effort into a cache then I think that listing it as a premium member cache "should" have a better chance of lasting longer. I do realize that that's not the case 100% of the time like you stated "Anyone can be a premium member before they ever start looking for caches". However most premium members get a feel for geocaching before forking over money(regardless of the amount). I think the one thing that could be "tossed into the wind" is your attitude and tone in your response. -Cheers
  16. When I bought my GPS it was 450 at the time and the maps to buy were another 100, was not willing to spend 100 more for maps, is there somewhere you can get maps for free? I have a garmin 60csx
  17. Since you say you were using c:geo, that implies you have an ANDROID phone, yes. Do you not have Google Maps on it? Yes I do but they don't show where the caches are
  18. I already have it so that GSAK sends the container size, difficulty, gc code and the cache type to my gps, the only thing I would like more is to be able to use a map with the geocaches on it so I can navigate in a area that I have never been to more easily.
  19. Hello Fellow Geocachers, I do realize that geocaching made the change to the different maps and im fine with it and understand why they did that. This post is not about that just related. When I use to go caching I would have the caches uploaded to my gps and would use my phone using cgeo to use the map feature to go paperless caching. It would be really handy to navigate through streets to get to other caches. So im wondering with these new changes what do you guys do? Should I got back to printing the maps as I cant find a way to see the maps on my phone while im out geocaching? I was thinking of bringing my computer and using my phone as a 3g data receiver and using my computer as I go, but don't want to leave my computer in my car while im out finding caches or bring it with me finding caches. What do you guys do now? -Cheers
  20. Yes thank you, also I have a 2gb SD card for my gps. I was wondering if that would even fit into my gps? would I need to get a micro sd card? and for the point of interests how do you load geocaches onto the POI section using GSAK? or even just your gps? Thanks again! - Turtle_Sask
  21. Ok Thank you very much! worked like a charm! the 60csx can hold 1000 geocaches right?
