  2. Thanks for everyone's advice - in the end, we only picked up seven caches on the island, as we ended up doing more tourist-orientated things than we anticipated! About four more were thwarted by muggles, and a couple of the more challenging ones were blocked by high tides!
  3. Our hotel is right by the entrance to Shanklin Chine - hopefully the first evening will be spent there and along Shanklin esplanade
  4. Hello all, I'm hoping you can offer us some advice on caching (and in general) on a trip to the IOW. We'll be heading over this Friday afternoon and returning Monday afternoon, armed with nothing but a bus pass and some walking boots. We're arriving in Ryde and staying in Shanklin. We're not planning a Dr. Solly style numbers run, but we'd like to take in any good quality caches that people would recommend whilst seeing some of the sights. Obviously we want to spend as little time as possible cooped up in buses, but this will be a necessary evil. At the moment, the only things we'd decided on were spending a day in the west, visiting the Needles, taking in caches around Totland bay, and a little time in the south around St. Catherines point, visiting the lighthouse. What else would people recommend/advise? Many thanks in advance! Mark + Deb
  5. My Nephew took a very chilly trip across the Blorenge at 3 months old to find The First in Wales: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LU...82-fa08f5373a7f
  6. If you're using AdBlockPlus and it is the one causing the problem, you can disable it on a per site basis using the toolbar button. Otherwise, give us a list of your addons like so, and we'll probably be able to tell you which is problematic:
  7. As said, this is an issue with JavaScript not working. Use IE and you should find the links working fine. I assume you're not trying to open the links in a new tab/window or anything silly? First off, check JavaScript is enabled: http://mistered.us/tips/javascript/firefox.shtml I'd have my money on adblock or another addon blocking the JavaScript. Start off by opening Firefox in safe-mode and disabling your add-ons so we can see if they're causing the problems and then get back to us: http://www.universefirefox.com/how-to/fire...e-how-to-use-it
  8. I've been meaning to do the Mega Series and I'd like to join you, but sadly I work Saturdays
  9. I found one of these a couple of days ago, and I know of a few others - good to see them, but I think you've been beaten to it!
  10. Another lowering your chances, I'm afraid - already got an Oregon 300, but would like one of Garmin's Geocoins!
  11. Although there are means to get around the poor postcode handling and at least let it search the right country, it's still not at all accurate! Easiest thing I've found is to use Streemap's converter to produce a lat/long to search with on GC.com - only drawback is the obvious lack of accuracy when a postcode covers a large area. Input your postcode and then copy the decimal formats of the lat/long (in brackets) into the GC search page: http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G...p;name=E1%201AA
  12. Hello folks, first post! I'm looking to buy my first GPS, and from what I've read on here so far, I'm really leaning towards the Oregon 300, but if you have any alternatives, feel free to offer any suggestions! I'm in the UK (Hampshire) and I'm hoping to use the GPS for the following purposes: A. Geo-caching - I suppose that's a given! B. Mountain-biking - mainly for having an easily viewable map on the handlebars so I can see/track where I am. C. Off Roading - I'd like to be able to see where I am on 4x4 "Pay and Play" sites. This is Slab Common, for example - it's a large army common which can be hired out by 4x4 clubs - I'd like to have a decent satellite image/terrain map of the common, or even be able to map it myself so it's easy to find your way around it and find particular features. D. OpenStreetMap - I'd like to contribute to this project. E. In car navigation - not vital, but would be a nice feature. ---------- So onto some questions specific to the Oregon 300 which I haven't been able to answer as yet! 1.) UK mapping: I don't really want to pay for maps unless I really have to - I'm stretching the budget as it is! What sort of scale/quality will the base map provide for the UK? I'm struggling to find any decent screenshots. I'm not expecting anything great from these, and they're presumably not routable? What sort of scale/quality can I expect from custom maps like these? http://emexes.powweb.com/osm/download.html I'd love to have OS maps for ease of reading, but I take it that's not going to happen without paying big money, if at all? Any example pictures would be much appreciated! 2.) Mountain Biking/Off roading: Is there any means of using a satellite image overlaid on a map, à la Google Maps? For finding your way around large areas of land as linked above? This would be for specific areas which I would know about in advance. If not, what about maps that show contour information etc? Having something like this which I can see my location/track on would be great! 3.) Purchasing: Where would people suggest I look for the best prices in the UK on the Oregon 300? I'd also be looking at a handlebar mount, case(s) and possibly an in-car charger/mount. ---- Thanks in advance for all your help - I'm sure I'll have some more questions as I think of them! Mark
