Hi, First of all sorry for the rebirth this old thread but I have had exactly the same issue like scorpion-king. Is there any explanation why was it and how can it fix without disabling Glonass feature? Is it may be hardware failure? I have GPSMAP 64S and my firmware version was 4.7. After this incident I updated but had no chance to try it out yet.

Of course I check it every time. But as you well know the weather can change quickly in the mountains. So what I've seen before the climbing may won't be true 2 hours later. And I'm not agree with your last sentence. I think there can be such situation where you can't see the storm clouds because it is hided by a big vertical rock but your gps receiver can receive signals.

Yes but as you mentioned it can be useful if you are in a constant elevation. But for example if I was in a middle of climbing and I wanted to check the weather (and I can't see the clouds because of the high mountains ) I would imagine the situation that check the gps receiver and see that a big red spot is coming and I would choose a direction to the closest shelter before the storm reaches me.

Wow thanks I didn't know that. Although I don't need the outcoming communcitation only the incoming. Unfortunately it has no glonass support and as I see I have to pay twice for subscription? First for something basic service and another for weather forecast?

Is it possible to broadcast any weather information over GPS satellites? I think it would be very nice to see a radar view about possible storms on GPS device in a middle of the forest where no any GSM signal. I've read that GPS has 50 bit/s bandwidth(maximum?) but I'm not sure if it is enough for any additional messages.

Hi I have the same experience. I bought 64s a week ago but it has 7-10 meter accuracy where my previous etrex 10 had 2-3-5 meter. Actually I'm thinking about the etrex 30x because this 64s model is a huuge disappointment to me. Anyway I'm not sure how is relating the turned off Lock On Road, Direct Routing or GLONASS(!) to increased GPS Accuracy. WAAS/EGNOS turning off sounds like logical but GLONASS??? Unfortunately I can't see the advantage of the Quad-helix antenna...

yeah and I'm still asking about etrex 30. Just mentioned that I have only etrex 10. But nobody wanna play it, nobody wanna say it nobody okayed it, they'd all rather hate it. Is it so hard to understand? Nevermind. But you still didn't answer for my last question.

Indeed I asked "What settings" and the reason is that before my question comment Red90 answered something unclear thing about settings. And because I didn't understand his answer I asked "What are you talking about? What settings?". Yeah apologise me I have pretty poor english. Anyway I don't think that is what I'm looking for. My question is more general as a "Setting issue". For example check this test video and look at the compass view part. It updates the direction so slow. but why?

Ok you don't understand me. So again my question is that why Etrex 30 compass works slowly. Check the Dakota 20 compass: What a smooth and "realtime" speed right? And now please check the etrex 30 compass speed on this video: Why so slow? Why can't works such smoothly just like Dakota 20?

What? Sorry but I'm not sure that understand you. What settings? And how is relating to the laggy compass issue?

Hello everybody, Does anyone know why is so slow the Etrex 30 compass? I've compared it with Dakota 20 and Dakota 20 compass works so smootly but Etrex 30 is such slow. I would understand if it has GPS based compass just like etrex 10 but it has not! It has electronic based compass so I have no clue.
