  1. I guess we need to create more "ethnically correct" smileys. Asian --> ? Indian --> ? African-American --> ? Unidentified ethnicity "second-to-find" cacher that is green with envy --> BTW, do you know (or do you care) what color my skin is? ... and no peeking at my photo gallery! **edit: does my university care that they chose a Black Squirrel as an unofficial mascot? It just so happens that they are the majority of the squirrel population on campus!
  2. Thanks, Mr. Obvious! (sorry, too much Bob & Tom this morning) Sorry. That was as opposed to hurting my future chances by ranting and raving. I save that for the forums. no..no, there's a regional comedy radio show called "The Bob & Tom Show" that I was listening to on the way to work this morning. They did a skit called "Mr Obvious" today - it was hillarious!!! No flames taken.... just good humor imposed wrong - my fault!
  3. Thanks, Mr. Obvious! (sorry, too much Bob & Tom this morning)
  4. I was wondering how you respond if you ask for permission in placing a cache & have been denied. Does this happen often? That hasn't happened yet to me, but I am sure it will sometime. I'm hoping to hear creative ideas in persuading interest in GC. I have an article from a magazine (Country Discoveries) & a pamphlet that I printed from geocachingU - just in case. Thanks!
  5. so then you are a meteorologist? What other profession can you be wrong 50% of the time & still keep your job!?!
  6. We are approaching attending our 1st event cache - to be held at a "casual eating and drinking establisment". Could someone let me know what to expect... trades, customs, is it held over dinner or is dinner after/before, etc... Please let me know, this way i don't feel funny going in emptyhanded (like being invited to dinner without bringing wine/dessert). Am i expected to bring anything (money/gps/pda/swag?). Thanks!
  7. The latest issue of Country Discoveries has a nice article a reader wrote about Geocaching. "Catch on to Geocaching" can be found on page 55 of the May/June 2005 edition. Notice a GC link on their helpful links page for this issue.
  8. I'm assuming the pricey gps is a job perk? (are they hiring at your place of employment??? Professional Geocacher for hire!) Bet that find didn't take long!!!
  9. Notice time? ^^ Then sleep is your answer. I find that I am spending more time in Home Deopt & my garage looking for inovative containers to hide - when I plant these, they WILL be good!
  10. duh... should be "won't go bak to paper - I love paperless!"
  11. Why buy the milk when you can get the lactating cow......FOR FREE!
  12. Oh ya... I won't go back to paperless.. after one DNF that took 3 tries, the binder went airborne, landed about 30', and was incapacitated. I won't let that tragedy happen to electronic devices.
  13. GGGrrrrr... i'm sure Jeremy could make all of us in the forums permanent PM's with the money he could make with a cache settlement on copyright infringement, right?
  14. I've been using GSAK on laptop & GPXSonar on a PocketPC. I need to find a bigger case to add the digicam to the collection of GPS, compass, swag bag & PDA. I heard someone uses GSAK to import html pages to pda. Does GSAK take less time to load & does it display all info (including benchmark details), or should I stick with what I have with GPSSonar?
  15. that's what I got. Isn't this almost teetering on the commercial/soliciting issue. I know it is not registered as a geocache, but that's infringement (or something of the sort)! This guy is capitalizing off the game - AND he's a Geocacher (not very good hider, I see)
  16. ooh ooh.. I know! that's under my bed!
  17. does anybody know if that is even allowed by ebay (i know they'll put any junk for bid - but coords??) that's almost like purchasing a pinpoint size piece of real estate, isnt it? Can't Jeremy use his Irish powers to down this auction? That's almost "selling" geocaching.

  19. Thanks, folks. Just what I thought. Just wondering if I had gone nuts or not - seeing a LOT of this activity in our area lately, and was wondering if I had missed some insane new rule change.
  20. I am thinking that it is unethical on part of the cacher (and also the cache owner) to permit someone to 2nd log a cache they have visited before just to drop off a TB. These people have visited and logged a cache once before on their initial discovery (find #1), and then realized they have a TB that needed deposited, so they went back to the previously discovered & logged cache to dend it on its way (find #2 for the same cache). Refresh me - this IS unethical, correct? Should I say something (this hasn't happened to my own caches, but I see other's), especially when someone posts/boasts that they have done so in their log? I doubt the cache owner would do anything. Can these people be reported to TPTB? This is irritating, as we live in an area of poor cache density, and I have actually WORKED for my few finds. I don't think that since it's a low density area should be reason for them to get away with it. **Thanks for letting me vent** My apologies if double logging is OK (but I don't think so...).
  21. the link to "find all nearby placenames" can be found on any cache page. Can anyone tell me if this is just for reference or what? thanks!
  22. My previous gps was a garmin12. now i have a magellan color --- i LOVE it!!! It seems to be far more accurate (we have a lot of thick cloudiness in our region) thanks to the WAAS capability, not to mention the auto averaging. The base maps are great, and the detailed maps (that come with mapsend directroute) have done a fabulous job of getting us to the caches much faster (teriffic for out of town caches) and have taken us on vacations with much accuracy (look out AAA - no triptik needed now). I couldn't imagine having it without being in color. to sum it up - go for it!! it has been so worthwhile for us.
  23. the cache is changed. Please review and advise. many thanks to all!
  24. the old requirements were in the body of the cache description, and also in a note.
