  1. You are getting the typical forum response to people who express any dissatisfaction with cache coordinate accuracy. You see, the majority of people here don't understand much about GPS accuracy, so when you give an example of bad coords, they can always find a situation in which the accuracy would be worse than your example. Doesn't matter whether their scenario applies to your example or not; they reason that if there is ever a reason for a GPS to get bad accuracy, it must always have bad accuracy. And don't expect people to read your posts. That's way too much trouble for the majority here. If you can't say it in a sentence or two, nobody will read it. For example, I would expect almost nobody to have gotten this far into this response! I understand exactly what you are saying. I think hiders should take pride in the accuracy of their coordinates, and I recommend averaging multiple readings to do so. Unfortunately, accuracy doesn't seem to be valued much any more; many hiders intentionally post bad coordinates to make their hides "harder." I wish I had some idea of how to address the problem. Well if it makes you feel better the few that I have hidden I have tracked down over several different days to make sure that cords are as close as possible.
  2. The search in some cases is half the fun.... Lighten up a little.... Maybe we can just bring the logs to you to sign.... lol....
  3. Opinion noted and thank you for it.... I like the Lake of Geocaches lol
  4. Well My pieve is Hunters!!!! Dont get me wrong I like to fish and hunt.... But Me My family and a close friend took a short road trip (about 50 miles) to the LBJ Caddo national grasslands near Decatur Texas. There were several ammo boxes stolen with the cache contens just dumped out at GZ. Then we happen to walk up on a Man that was hunting. Now keep in mind that this area is public land, We found our cache (one of the three that no longer had there Ammo boxes) and proceded to return to our car. This cache was a multi-cache that required a hike of just over a mile. As we made our way back we passed the hunter who informed us he was calling the Game Warden for the area because we were harrasing him. We tried to explain and apologize but he was just P.O.ed at us and the world for his unsucessful hunt. Was I in the wrong???? I don't think so but well I'm not sure.... AlfaMale Sdrawkcab
  5. This certain location is a large parking lot with several large chain stores. Location isn't close to any paticuilar one but isnt in the back corner either. Its a new center some of the smaller shops aren't open yet. We have stoped at more than one of the stores on the way to My Mom and Dad house with our children. We all have noticed the lack of geocaches in the area.
  6. Going to place a Skirt, Will be my second hide, Dont plan on hiding a lot of LPC's but just wanted to here what anyone and everyone thought about them. Saw the story about the one in Midland Texas, so though I would ask the fourm. Thanks... Alfa Male of Sdrawkcab
  7. Thats just plan out right mean. Glad not a lot of that grows here in north texas. As for the hidding in evergreens, in the wild there is no problem.... They are hearty trees.... in a land scape an the otherhand..... I wouldn't want every cacher in the area digging in a hedge of mine. Sdrawkcab
  8. I'll have to disagree with the previous poster. If you get to ground zero and find the cache is under 10 feet of snow it's a perfect reason to log a DNF. That will be helpful to the next person who may be thinking of hunting it. I'll even log a DNF if I abandon the hunt because of too many passersby. That could alert future searchers that there may be a better time of day to attempt it. If I begin the hunt and come up empty I log a DNF. The reason is irrelevant. I define start of the hunt as the moment I call up the cache coords on my GPS and hit GO TO. I agree with this line of thinking about DNFs. I also agree... There is no stat that track DNF's. I would say that is you look.... log it some how....
  9. My wife and I picked up a older Garmin Vista. She got it from a friend at work, New in box. It has worked great for us. We did have to order a special cable to convert the RS 232 cable it came with to a USB plug. My sugestion would be to check out Pawn shops or online for a used one. This way you dont lay down a large chunck of change on a over qualified GPS unit. Then when you figure out just what options you need you could get a new one. Sdrawkcab Alfa Male
