  1. Careful, this is for geocaching.com apps and c:geo (I use it) isn't one so hop over to "https://github.com/cgeo/cgeo/" before you get into trouble
  2. Check these sites http://www.gmaptool.eu/en/content/usa-osm-topo-routable https://www.gpsfiledepot.com/ Hope they help Enjoy the trip anf trek
  3. Also have a bike mount but prior did simply hold in hand to view the directional arrow and use a proximity alarm but there is an old saying, "When you trek in the woods don't just look at your GPSr, occasionally one must raise the head and look where going!" (no idea where got it but have several small scars on the farhead proving the intent should be respected)
  4. Bug spray - Deet or the like. Spray shoes and ankles up about 3-4" Keep your eyes alert
  5. Mine come from 2 life "involvements." On the 1 hand, there is/was my 1982 280 Datsun ZXT and then there is my profession - A self-employed applied statistician so putting those together there is z_statman
  6. You might also contact Groundspeak, they periodically survey the registered members and it might also be a topic of interest to them
  7. I really haven't followed this topic but just renewed my PM so thought about this $.02 worth I am not "old" but retired, still self-employed, so at least 70 .... and do believe this crazy "sport" has added years of health to my life. I also Terracache and for both tend toward the higher Terrain caches, 3.5+ but a lower difficulty of LE 3.5. Is it financially worth the $30/year, probable not since I need to drive 50-60+ miles for a cache and that adds to the cost. Is it fun - All in the doer! Is it effective, yes in the physical sense and keeps my mind active so limited failure of the brain matter. So, Yes! for me
  8. Well done to your child but IMHO this is very different from, e.g., 6 show up at the launch, 3 paddle and 3 sit on the ground waiting and when done get 6 finds! Not "ethical"
  9. We have a similar issue here wrt paddle caches; It's hard for me to understand that there are those who "sit and watch" then log the cache as if they actually performed
  10. Would say am of the same opinion as the replies make above: If one "stops by" with a group, only those who actually perform the intent of the challenge should get credit but who is going to police that - Of course, those involved but will they actually make it known? No!
  11. I "play" 3 different versions of this "game" we all enjoy and yes, there are some who might say "That one doesn't interest me at all because ............." but hostility, have not really noticed is generally. My $.02 is to play as you will, at the level and interest you desire but have fun and be safe regardless! On an aside, I do believe the P&G placements are out of control: $.05 worth this time
  12. Our edexter (+wife and friends) visited before the recent entry changes and stayed in Old Havana (friends spoke the language) so might contact him for more info. He also placed the 1st Terracaches. Be safe
  13. Here in Florida we have interference from a variety of sources, not to include mountains, and I find that the average 'error' is 6-10' which is pretty good. When undercover, in thick swamps or narrow canals my focus tends to look at the difference between 'distance to destination" and 'GPS Error,' this gets me pretty close and pretty consistently within 3-6'
  14. My current geo-car, along with some useful gear and then my 1st one - 280ZXT
  15. Not really sure why this thread continues: If the climb is within your capabilities then "go for it," else "stay on the ground!" My $.02
  16. z_statman here - The "Z" is from owning a 1982 Datsun Z Turbo for many years and the "Statman" since that is my profession See my Web site at https://zstatman.000webhostapp.com/zstatman/Interests/interests.htm then the Interest Tab (you can check out the other tabs if you like)
  17. I am sympathetic with your position Keystone and appreciate your reply but I would also suggest the reviewers should, and some do, offer input to Groundspeak wrt their area's placement balance - and imbalance. FWIW, I do support the reviewer system both via GC as well as TC
  18. I am a Premium Member, but my options are becoming more limited for the type of caches I enjoy most. First, I limit the puzzle caches. Further, I favor the point Steve Jobs made "The journey is the reward" as well as another quote, "The journey is the destination." Thus, for me, the preferred is a Difficulty under 4.0 but a Terrain of at least 3.0. To see what was now available for me within 30 miles of my home (South of Titusville, Florida) and also just 1,000 caches I came up with the following: So, what this tells me is that my continued participation in the Geocaching site is becoming limited while on the Terracaching side I remain active. I have expressed my concern for all the area P&Gs to our reviewers, one of which wont' even talk to me anymore, but such placements continue. (Note: They do help the new-comer so there is value but, IMHO, the volume is out of control) Anyway, my $.02, like it or not
  19. Would suggest that a filter has been set thus .......
  20. Dislike also - Too big so need to scroll a lot to get same info w/ previous. Also, unless missing something, doesn't interface with CGVote
  21. I agree with several of the posts that imply the quality of caches placed over the last couple of years has degraded - Not necessarily in the cache itself but in its complete lack of "sense of placement!" When I open to Geocaching Map I am impressed to see the vase number of placements (Green dots all over) but if you look closely, a vast majority are along roads - P&Gs. Yes, one of the main benefits of GC is that such placements do foster the entry level cacher and the family but when there of those who would like more of or interested in finding caches that are not "just off the road" but out on an interesting trail or up a really cool mountain or .... of a terrain greater then a 2.5 the choices are getting to be limited. My renewal is coming up and will fork out the premium fee but my patience is fading and so is the reward for finding a truly nice cache that also requires some effort My $.02
