  1. For the concept of maps being an ariel view of the ground you could use Local Live - it has very clear photo's which you could match up with your local area's OS map and your kids local knowledge. Another technique to engage the kids is to give them map grid references and they have to name the village/town at that reference. Here's a list of rude town names that'll keep them engaged. Good luck
  2. I don't know if they are ironic, they'd rust. They may be steely.
  3. As someone who does log trigs I am keen that TrigpointingUK is supported. I wish more people logged trigs on TrigpointingUK. If trigs are on the Waymarking website, it may attract more people to trigpointing, who will inevitable discover TPUK and hopefully use it. I don't see that Waypointing will draw people away from Trigpointing so I don't see any disadvantage to it having the category, except maybe a people may be put off trigpointing... Also, if you use TPUK and you are a Firefox user there is a Greasemonkey script that makes your trig stats show up on your geocaching stats. (search for posts by Southseekers)
  4. If I'd been doing the quiz at that stage, I'd have known the answer Your go
  5. Excellent, I've no idea where I dredged that from. And Thor's hammer was called .....
  6. There was one called "Stake in the Grass" that was good by Spottyspaniels. It was a multi and the clues were on false fence posts with the new coordinates burnt on with a magifying glass. It was very cleverly done. I also enjoyed Tim & Junes "Quantum Leap" part 1, now gone, but each stage of the multi was very well thought out and even the cache had a final, ingenious twist.
  7. National Service except Beryl who volunteered. Did three of them start up small car companies before finding their niche in life. John started his car company after becoming rich & famous (or at least renowned) Did all of them have spells in prison before they were famous, except John who waited until after?
  8. three of them have met the queen, the 4th hasn't. The 4th is Robin.??
  9. Not sure what form that would take... less bacon and eggs? ruder? Who's the odd one out, and why? - Beryl Bainbridge (author) - Salvador Dali (painter) - John DeLorean (conman) - Robin Askwith (actor) Al but Robin Asquith leaders of The Knights Templer?
  10. civilised wins - it was John not Peter, but close enough
  11. That's the Amazons done and Roger is the ships Boy. Just the Captain and first mate of the Swallow to get now...
  12. Titty was the younger girl. Tricky to think of clues...except for Titty of course Any further guesses, or shall I pass it to Black Pig for being 20% correct?
  13. Please name the Swallows and the Amazons. (my first thought for a question was to name the boats ... Doh )
  14. Not sure if this is a Pink Floyd Question, but that's my frame of reference. She did electronic music before most other people. Pink Floyd worked with her in the late 60's, but she was already respected at that point for the Dr Who theme tune
  15. I can multi task - working, watching the forums and watching the world cup. Works suffering a bit, but it's still two things...
  16. Two of mine are under the Hants CC general agreement. I don't look for a place, then find the owner, I look for HCC land then look for a good place to place a cache. The third is a micro on an HCC footpath with a giveaway title and clue to prevent unesseceassary (too early, I can spell it normally) exploring. I've viewed this thread 4 times.
  17. globalpositioningsystems.com introduced me. I had looked for two unsucessfully and one find in the few week between then and delivery of a GPS from USA. I introduced Solent Sheep (20ish finds), Finn * (90 ish) and Wiggy Boo (1 logged, half a dozen unlogged)
  18. Well, I reckon about 1730 - I've just been reading Sarum and there is a section on the witch trials, one of the subjects of the book was up for trial. Where and who - thats a question. I can say that (unless I'm muddling my facts) only 288 witches were tried and convicted - far fewer than I expected.
  19. How close far out will you allow? I'll go 1750, No -1800, No -1850, No -1700 erm - I'll go for 1775...
  20. Katie Derham? Natasha Kaplinsky? Micheal Buerk? Ooh ooh - is it that actress that was in, oooh, you know, the girly flick, erm, about a woman who....did something or nothing, i didn't concentrate. It was a book as well, a well selling book. Might had had to do with diaries. I don't know - it was her I'm sure, a famous actress. Or is it Wayne Rooney's girlfriend. Could be her?
  21. got the second one. EDIT - I reckon I could guess the 1st too now
