  1. Even though the fake plant is larger and part of the cache? I have a fake hunting bird with a tube in it i labeled as other.
  2. I have a cache that i made from a fake plant and a small bison tube that is hanging inside the fake plant by a small piece of fishing line. Do i size it by the bison tube (micro) or the whole fake plant size, which is probably about 1 1/2 feet in size? So would it fit (other)? Thanks.
  3. Thanks for the words theBruce0 but ive decided not to vlog and am happy to just regular cache like i was. I was just bored so i thought it would give me something to do. I can find other things to entertain me.
  4. Yeah this seems like more trouble than its worth. Why do you automatically assume that i havnt asked permission? I have and the other ones i recorded i have got permission for so yeah......check out the ABOUT section on my YT page. Im probably just going to remove the vid since im not trying to cause problems. I can live without vlogging.
  5. I would never intentionally go into a park area at night and didnt see any park stuff heading up there. I didn't plan or research this cache and just picked it because of closeness and time. I knew there were some earth caches further up the road past the gate that you can see in the beginning when i pull in. It has reflectors on it and i thought i was cool on my side. The cache was this side of the gate and so i got it but i had no idea it was at a park if it actually is located in the boundaries. I thought past the gate was a no-no area that led up to an old mine because i planned on getting those caches sometime when the gate was open during the day. My bad if i was in the wrong but i really thought i was good before the closed off area.
  6. Hey guys.. In trying to get more involved with our hobby i decided to try my hand at vlogging a cache or 2. Not sure if it will be a regular thing for me but i shot a few vids which i will be putting up at some point. Nothing close to professional or anything.....but if you maybe feel like dropping by sometime and trying to make out what I'm mumbling on about in the vid, i would appreciate it....the link is below.. Thanks SL P.s. go easy on me im just having a lil fun with this. ? https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiZp89iTEfvdvkETD0BTYVA
  7. I work 3rd shift so I spend a lot of my lunch breaks hunting caches after 2am by myself. I havnt ran into any trouble yet besides someone cleaning a restaurant late night wondering why I was in the parking lot. No cop issues but I try to be discreet. Most of the time I'm out in the countryside roads in the pitch black of night or walking through some woods. I havnt got spooked yet besides running into some big sticky webs from big ol plump looking spiders! I pay attention to this a lot now and have discovered different types of light sources show webs up differently. It also gets very quiet out there but I generally feel safe in the blanket of night. Sometimes I think a cache would of been easier to find in the day but not always. It's not too much of a hinder to be in the dark for me..... sometimes it's a help as you have mentioned.....less muggles.
  8. Hi. Instead of archiving why would you not just put a new container in the missing cache spot since it's your cache? Did you get tired of missing containers or something?
  9. With Hurricane Irma about to hit Florida it got me thinking about the state of geocaches after major weather and storms. Im guessing there will be loads of missing or destroyed caches when this kind of thing happens. Does anyone have any input or stories into the natural disaster recovery side to this hobby from over the years since its been around. Seems like this kind of thing can be a big shakeup for overall cache health over mass area.
  10. I'm pretty new to the hobby so I get a kick out of finding a new type of cache container I havnt seen before. With only 30 odd finds I think I still have lots of different container types to discover. It's funny how a cache container like a fake leaf hanging from a tree I found the other day put a smile on me and my sons face. The creativity of a cache container inspires and pleases me. Also just thinking about the caches I've found being out there as I ride by them from day to day is cool to think about.
  11. Yeah my bank statement gets charged 5.99 a month for premium. I read some of the link you put up and I think I just have to cancel my current sub and re-sub at the $30 cost for a year. I don't think the option appears unless your membership is cancelled or expired. Thanks for the link help.
  12. Welcome to this great hobby wanfortheroad. Im new to this too, isn't it a great way to spend your time......i think so!
  13. Hi, i have a question about premium membership. Currently i am enrolled in the month to month charge for premium membership but i want to change this to the one time yearly charge of $30 bucks a year which will save me money since i really enjoy my new hobby and don't plan on giving it up. What is the best way to do this? Do i have to cancel my monthly subscription before i can access the option of the yearly subscription rate? I don't see the option for the yearly rate right now, and will i also have to let my premium monthly membership run out after cancelling to do this as well?
  14. Wow 80 cans and 30 ready for backup. That's nice. Pretty cool to have that many large caches. Yeah I think about the experience of a cache related to it being functional. It's there to be found. I think some of us are more obsessive over the experience quality than others. Not in how cool the cache is, but more on how stable an environment for its ability to be accessed is. Backups that are ready to go minimize the downtime and that's why I won't put a cache out till I have a copy of it at home. If I ever have a lot of caches of the same kind i won't have duplicates for all but I will have a good number of backups like you. My cache placement will only be based on what I can handle to maintain good quality game service.
  15. My caches are my babies and I don't want anyone else looking after them.....let alone paying someone to do it. Sucks half the fun outta it for me. Each to there own I guess...
  16. I only have 2 caches right now as I'm a baby to this game but each cache has a container within a container and I have duplicates ready to go of all these. I don't like the idea of having to wait for a replacement (fake rock) in the mail and I want the caches to maintain the same look always with minimal downtime. I guess I want them to be game ready always. My caches I treat as sorta fun lil character things in my head in a way so I like to maintain the workup and presentation. It's fun for me to give them life and a small story. 2 hides isnt much cost and I'm totally willing to put money into this hobby as like Warninjas was saying, other hobbies are way more expensive. The main thing was just me thinking of how much maintenance and costs could possibly go into the game when u have hundreds of caches to keep up with. I guess depending on your container choices, your container styles, your cache premium status, the cache locations, and the cache types......then it could all vary in expense for individual owners. Btw, good to know about the non unarchiving rules changes.
  17. What's the longest reasonable time given for replacement without disabling a cache and how long can you disable a cache before enabling it again? If you disable a cache does it disappear from the app map? If it does what's to show people placing new caches in the area that there is a disabled cache there that could be enabled at any time?
  18. I was just thinking about geocaching resposibilities and expenses of when you take on owning a cache you basically have to have duplicate cache containers ready to go for the life of the cache in case of disappearances at any point in time. Some of these containers range more than $5 a piece on some caches and others much more. Then I was thinking of the CO's that have hundreds of caches out there. Do you think mass owned caches suffer in upkeep and response and do you think these type CO's know what they are getting themselves in for when signing up as an owner and providing an adequate experience to the games design. More caches mean more money needed to keep them up right?
  19. A couple of days ago i saw a big deer quite close to me. Didn't expect it to be there so the noise of it surprised me as it bolted. Been in the game a week or so and already seeing the effects of an outside activity as such. I like nature though so that's cool... 🙄
  20. Ok thanks for all the info guys. It's only a few minutes away so I'll run out now and get it in place.
  21. Hi there. Had a question about placing caches before they get approved. Im worried that it will get approved and I won't have it on the spot before someone finds it. What if I'm sleeping and it becomes active? Do I place it out there when waiting on approval or wait till it actually does get approved? Do I just put it out there and pick it back up if it doesn't get the go ahead? Is this how you guys do it? When do u date the beginning of the log. With no idea of when it will be approved or not im wondering if you wait to date it until it gets ok'd. what if I date it and it gets approved 7 days later. Or I date it and it doesn't get approved. I don't want to waste logs. Thanks
