  1. The etrex series is good, but don't get the 10, look at the Etrex 20. Big advantage is a GPS works with out cell signal or data. And can be used in the rain
  2. Your premium membership covers the website and the app, provided you paid for the full app
  3. Give everyone a ticket, then pull all the tickets at once and attach them to the prizes. Cachers can then check to see if they won and trade their ticket for the prize they won. This keeps everyone at the event until prizes are drawn. Prizes that are not claimed can be saved for your next event.
  4. Check out our page http://www.landageocaching.com/ This will be our 8th event and 5th MEGA having the County of Lennox and Addington as our supporters. I can tell you first hand a lot more money comes into the community then the County puts out for our event(s).
  5. Make sure you put a Geocaching label on it, in case it's found by a non-geocacher.
  6. Make it a multi, stage 1 is a large, the final is your pellet container, in the description state the final is an ammo can List it as a large TaaDaa Done.
  7. Makes it hard for the cache owner to to proper maintenance when needed, what was once a Magnetic key holder is now a bison tube Etc.
  8. I agree with everyone the E-trex series is a great place to start, my only advice would be is start with the Etrex 20 if you can afford the extra few dollars. http://handbdigital.blogspot.ca/2011/10/popular-garmin-etrex-10-20-and-30-gps.html
  9. Here is mine https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC5VHP0_la-caching-taking-the-critical-path GPS Coordinates lead you outside of a library window, you can see the next re-direct inside
  10. Could also be left over's from the Other OPEN Geocaching site.
  11. Another option is to contact another local geocacher with a GPS and have them BETA test your cache before submitting it for review, and by BETA testing I mean give them the Lat/Long of your cache and have them goto the location. When I BETA test caches for others I usually sign the back page of the log and write (beta tested) beside my name. I never take a FTF If for some reason your coordinates are off, they can mark them with their GPS
  12. If you're thinking on getting the Etrex 10, spend a little extra and get the Etrex 20 look here to compare
  13. Are you on PC or Mobile?
  14. Just curious, did the cache owners agree to be part of the GeoTour?
  15. Until the caches are published you can not create a .GPX file as well as you can not create a bookmark of caches until they are published. Having hosted multiple events including 4 MEGA's, the way we do it is using an Excel sheet. We plan ahead and everyone who is hiding caches forwards the information (GC code, Lat/Long etc) to 1 person who creates the sheet, copies it and distributes at the event. We also have a person responsible for creating the bookmark lists when the caches get published. As for the .GPX files, they can be created once the bookmark lists are done. Just remember posting .GPX files anywhere for others to download I believe is against the rules. Loading .GPX files on a few GPS's, I think that's OK
  16. Give us a Cache GC# that has the term used, it will help us answer your question
  17. Welcome to the addiction, I mean game from Ontario, Canada
  18. Silly question, but do you have maps on your Oregon? And in the settings somewhere you should be able to switch it from routable to recreation or even Geocaching
  19. Pathtags have nothing to do with Geocaching. If you find one you can keep it and collect them, or you can drop it in another cache just like any swag item.

Make sure you logged it as found Make sure the cache owner did not chance the D/T rating after you found it.
  21. Run your PQ Unzip to desktop Plug in Nuvi Goto Garmin-Garmin-GPX Drag and drop PQ here, will show on screen as treasure boxes and can be found under favorites. Done.
  22. Try clearing your Cache on your Iphone, this should bring back the option for you.
  23. Week #1 Have a couple of Geocaching pro's come in as guest speakers to talk about the game Week #2 Have your class design a couple of geocaches, talk about environment (rain, snow cold etc), what makes a good/bad container, swag impact geocaching has on the environment etc Week #3 *** Field trip *** Pick a location for both Geocaches (OFF SCHOOL PROPERTY), and hide them, talk about GPS, satellites, how weather trees etc affect signal. Week#4 Create a basic membership call it something like Mrs XXX's Geoclass or something, and discuss what you should put in the descriptions of the cache listings. List the Caches. ** (Ask on the listing if cachers would put where they are from, make this optional) Geography lesson up!! From there on in, every time the cache is found go to the site with your kids and show them, you could even have a competition to see what cache will get found the most.
